Most importantly NASA have plenty of experience with crashing stuff, the best NASA fck up was when they forgot to check what type of system is used in datasheets for engines and it was obviously using metric units not pounds so the spaceship instead ending at Mars orbit simply crashed directly into Mars... In comparison to that, Indias fail in last stage of surface landing is a great success... heh

Heh, They made a deal with Soviet Union under the table that they will be buying Russian engines for 30 years... mystery solved. Soviets agreed to leave central Europe without single shoot but with conditions and this money boost from USA to Russian space tech was clearly one of the conditions... Also it looks that Russia wasted all that money as they have no new amazing tech to compete with new competition!
