  1.  @rodin-06  I tend to think of intelligence as the ability to think - to work things out. As such, I guess it is linked to "Cleverness" - typically what I would see as a skill of some sort. If you are fortuneate enough to be able to combine intelligence with a good education, then BINGO!

  2. You could quite legally carry a knife appropriate to your foraging, just like a fisherman or a yachtsman can do for their sports. My stalking "tool kit" includes various equipment required for the gralloch and to remove small branches from round high seats etc.

  3. Last time I went to Luton about 10 years ago (having lived on the outskirts for a couple of years some time previously) I went into B&Q. As far as I could tell, my other half and myself were the only "locals" and certainly the only people for whom English was a first language.

  8.  @Falconlibrary  There is a balance to be drawn, and a direct comparison is misleading. Switzerland has a higher per household ownership of military firearms but is quite safe. The only mass shootings in the UK have been carried out by people who should not have had the guns but were either allowed them due to incompetence, or in the case of Dunblane, but corruption (also likely in the Hungerford case as it happens). You also have to remember that up until recently our population was not all descended from criminals, asylum seekers & economic migrants!

  12.  @tomridley232  About 40 years ago, one of my uncles who had run marathons and always been fit and healthy lost a leg to bone cancer which happened very suddenly. He was recovering and had started to train for the London marathon in the disabled class when suddenly he was hit with brain cancer. A very horrible way to go! He had always been an office worker (the old GLC) so had never been exposed to nasty chemicals like most manual workers are. How does that fit into the "Narrative" as people like to call it these days?

  13.  @tomridley232  I do agree with you on many of the points you raise, but going back 80 plus years, none of those things were really happening yet the average lifespan was much lower. Currently people are living much longer than they ever have, and that is due to many factors. Maybe the recent increase in early deaths is just nature / the planet fighting back?

  27. In the UK I regularly go for walks in the countryside and rarely see more than one or two other people. I other minority people are worried about negative interactions then I suggest they try the same.

However, the possibility that Jesus (assuming you believe in him) was of European appearance as is often portrayed in pictures, because of the fact that the Roman's occupied the area where he was born and even before then, Europeans had been trading with that part of the world.

  31. Bet I know where / who you got your paper punching sticker from! Mine came on the box of my 9 1/2" S&W .22! I lost all my "toys" but the biggest annoyance was the limited edition 625 I won in the Pistol AD raffle - it was probably one of my favourite ever guns, it turned out, that being of significant historic interest (ie limited edition) I could have still owned it although the use would be heavily restricted and storage very costly.

  45. Many of these changes have been brought in to try and stop scum from cheating and dipping their hands in the tills. It never was a huge problem but with more and more "visitors " coming into the country you can see why it is necessary!

  46. All of this tracking of people and even DNA has a weakness. Just lend your phone to a friend who travels to another part of the country while you commit your crimes. With DNA you can very easily frame someone or at least throw the police off your trail by planting someone else's DNA.
