Actually, Google's original AdSense was moderate and its success could be attributed to the ads being so unobtrusive (plain text ads displayed alongside search results, with clear indication that the links are sponsored). The good times are over, with the gargantuan pandemic theft and redistribution scheme having taken place and the resulting damage to economy and work morale everywhere in the world companies will now scramble to milk the consumers of their remaining money. Some companies may not survive this. In any case, the end result will be a much shittier world for all the fools who supported this robbery.   25. FYI, it is not just the companies that are a big problem here. Governments have the ability to change laws within days if need be, to block your bank accounts or bank transfers (as they have done during the pandemic, e.g. for those who wanted to support truckers in Canada), to drag you and your family into wars that you have no interest in fighting. Very few people in the world truly "own" something in an absolute sense nowadays. The only guarantee of long-term ownership seems to remain in control of a lot of weapons, preferably those capable of mass destruction. Quite possibly it has always been so, but we have been led to believe otherwise.

It would require resetting the world and running it again to see what would have happened if the company had behaved in a different way. For all we know their decision may have caused them to actually lose profit because of the bad reputation it created. Do you think they should be reimbursed for their loss too?

I have no pity for customers who fall for these vendor lock-in tricks, especially with the big companies that have been known to apply them for the past several decades. They are just lazy and honestly have been warned so many times and got it coming to them, and still refused to become indepedent. I just don't like it when my governments pump (my) money by force into these predatory companies - and the institutions really don't care about wasting taxpayer money.

  42. Actually the only proper solution for the InfluxDB company in this situation would be to offer, out of their own initiative, payment of damages to the affected customers. If they don't do it, as a database company, they are done. Even if was an unaffected customer, with this sort of grand fuckup and negligence, I would migrate elsewhere as soon as possible.
