The US, EU and NATO thought they had found the ideal opportunity to clear out their old stocks of ammo and weaponry, and replace it with more modern kit - and add it all onto Ukraine's credit card bill!. However, the resulting increase in energy prices from the sanctions are closing much of the manufacturing sector, particularly the metal industries, so making replacements will be very expensive. Ukraine has also lost 40% of its GDP from the Donbas region. Europe may have lost the option to buy from Russia, who may refuse to sell to them anyway. Meanwhile the US is bankrupting itself by printing money. The words 'rock' and 'hard place' come to mind!

  3. Poland and Germany are trapped! They have contracts for Russian oil until 2026 and would have to pay compensation to Russia if they stop buying. They have asked the EU to sanction Russian oil to avoid paying compensation, but the other countries which are dependent on the supply will vote against any sanctions!

  6. I thought the EU had rules against Govts subsidising industries, because it would make them more competitive? When Germany refused to certify NS2, it also cancelled cheap gas for other EU countries, which it supplied! Will it continue to block NS2, or will the others change Germany's mind?

  10. You should find the Russian press conference the day after MH17 came down. They showed the radar tracking of a plane with its transponder off, approaching the airliner moments beforehand. Also find the report by BBC reporter Olga Ivshiner, who interviewed 5 independent witnesses who saw a Ukrainian jet climbing towards MH17. The report was deleted 'because it didn't meet the BBC's editorial policy', however, copies can still be found!

  11. Also some months ago, the former Head of the anti-corruption unit was arrested at the border with $125k & 600k Euros in cash and several large gemstones in his car! Together with the current Head, $2bn had been moved out of Ukraine! Many of the SBU police own cars well in excess of their salary levels! Corruption is rife, especially in the anti-corruption department!

  12. Now look at it more accurately. Kiev is desperate to get back Donbas, because of all the resources there. The UA has even dropped leaflets on Donbas - 'we want the land not you!' Zelensky declared that Ukraine was going to join NATO (even though NATO have since admitted that they can't!) and get nuclear weapons. He refused to honour the Minsk Agreements. He also declared that Ukraine was going to take back Crimea and in January, signed the order to assemble a task force to send an additional 40,000 troops to take back Donbas. On 16th Feb, the OSCE recorded 40 ceasefire violations, as the Ukrainian Army began shelling Donbas, rising daily to more than 2,000 a day on 20th, 21st and 22nd Feb. On 24th Feb, Russia (as requested under the UN Charter Article 51) stepped in to stop it!

  20.  @cathjj840  Not from the Russian perspective! Unit commanders have stated their orders are for demilitarisation not territory gain. They don't care who controls which field. They withdraw, inviting the Ukrainians to attack, then destroy them out in the open! Russia has focused on UA artillery since the beginning of the year. A couple of months ago, Forbes stated that the UA now has fewer than 300 artillery pieces, mainly supplied by the West, having lost nearly all the 1,000+ they started with!

  22. Moscow just pointed out that Russian Army and aviation units were also involved with taking Solidar. Surovikin has NOT been fired! Gerasimov is now overall commander of the enlarged force, covering the admin and communication with Moscow, leaving Surovikin to CONTINUE as deputy commander, focusing on the battlefield strategy! Meanwhile, Zelensky rejected his military commander's advice to withdraw from Solidar, to save the lives of the troops, who would certainly lose! The Nazi philosophy is the 'State' is important, the people and troops are not! Did CNN 'witness' the retreating UA troops who failed to break through to Solidar city centre to rescue the 400 odd troops trapped there? UA troops stated they are stacking the bodies of their dead as there is no one to collect them! Russian commanders have confirmed their orders are for demilitarization not territory capture. Yesterday's Briefing for Solidar: "Within the last three days, more than 700 Ukrainian personnel, and over 300 units of armament of the AFU have been eliminated." The Allies are now competing with tuberculosis on which removes more UA troops from the battlefield! Kiev has already issued a massive shopping list to the West, begging for missiles, combat vehicles and equipment for 'border security'!

  27. Ukraine has lost 14 tanks/APVs and 79(!!!) artillery units in the last WEEK! So far, 385 Ukrainian jets have been shot down - how long would Western jets last? Ukraine only has 'promises' to replace them - in 3, 6 or 12 months! The West can't keep up with Ukraine's loss rate!

  29.  @evets1709  My logic is short sighted! 48 countries buy oil from Russia. How do you think the big EU buyers, Germany and Netherlands will cope? Other EU countries want an exemption! India resells a lot of Russian oil (it doesn't have to go to India first!). Even Saudi buys Russian oil. They use it for domestic supply so they can sell more of their own at market prices. UAE buys Russian and Venezuelan oil, mixes with their own and sells 'without origin'. You ignore Asia - Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, S. Korea, etc. Only 30 countries applied sanctions. Even fewer will cut themselves off by applying a cap!

  33. A lot of BS here! Russia didn't cut off gas to Europe via Nord Stream - Canadian sanctions against the return of a repaired gas turbine and maintenance of the others did! Russia did not cut off exports of fertilizer - EU sanctions on shipping insurance did! 8m tons of fertilizer is stuck at Russian export hubs! The same insurance sanctions are blocking exports of Russian grain!

  35. Western MSM will headline 'Putin/Russia shuts off the gas!' Germany blocked Nord Stream 2. Kiev has blocked one of the pipelines across Ukraine. Some EU countries cut themselves off, refusing to pay into Gazprom Bank. French Engie hasn't paid its bill. Siemens signed-off the report that it is unsafe to run the turbine with oil leaking on the cable connections! However, without Canadian sanctions, there would be 4 other turbines working and the gas flow would now be 80% - that's not Russia cutting off the gas! With another turbine needing to go to Canada for repairs, AND COME BACK AGAIN! - the pressure should switch to Trudeau! The G7 now wants to start a war against Russian oil - just watch the prices rise now! Will the EU lobby Trudeau to cancel the sanctions? Will the Germans (and other EU countries) pressure Schultz to certify Nord Stream 2? Will there be a ground swell to cancel all sanctions? Will there be a rift between the US and EU if sanctions get lifted? It's all becoming an interesting game! Putin is on the side-lines watching the Governments bury their economies and waiting for them to start fighting amongst themselves. I wonder if he ever allows himself a smug grin?

  36. The Government has signed up British taxpayers as guarantor for $100 million of international loans to Ukraine, a bankrupt country! Having lost 40% of their GDP from Donbas, Ukraine will never be able to repay these loans nor refund the 'lend-lease' (for weapons) to the US. The British will have to repay it instead!!!

  37. You would be foolish to believe anything from the Kiev Govt! From the Russian MOD 24th Nov: "Not a single strike was carried out against targets within the city limits of Kiev. All the destruction declared by the Kiev regime in the city was the result of foreign and Ukrainian air defence missiles falling in residential areas of the Ukrainian capital." Officials in Zaporizhzhia stole an entire shipment of humanitarian aid (20 shipping containers, 200 trucks and 389 train wagons full!) and sold it through private businesses. Money donated by people to Ukraine (millions) went missing! Money from the US Govt was 'invested' by Kiev in FTX - and has now vanished! Kiev recently passed a law allowing Govt officials to accept 'gifts', and removing all restrictions on the size of those gifts. They legalized corruption! The current and former Heads of the Anti-Corruption Unit, were caught extracting over $2bn from the country!

  38. The US is keen for other countries to 'poke the bear' by sending tanks, but not brave enough to do it themselves! The US also knows they can sell those tanks elsewhere - Ukraine is bankrupt! 'Consent' is a legal requirement - will Poland breech the terms of the contract with Germany? NATO is starting to fall apart! Scholtz is reluctant to destroy future relations with Russia, Germany's biggest trading partner! The US is happy to destroy the German economy further, as they did first with the sanctions on NS2 then by destroying the pipelines! ONLY the US is 'selling' that aid to Ukraine (Lend/Lease Act). The German Govt will have to pay to make those tanks 'war ready', before giving them to Ukraine, a move that will not be popular with German voters!

  44.  @universalmusic2056  My response was to the accusation that "killers always praise killers" and I don't know what Putin has done himself. Your response falls down in that Russia is defending Russians, who were defending themselves. The people of Donbas are not trying to take over Ukraine - just protect themselves from being killed by the UA. Although he accepted Crimea's application to join the Russian Federation in 2014, he rejected the same from Donbas, recognising Ukraine would struggle without that area of resources. If the Minsk agreements had been honoured (ceasefire, level of autonomy for Donbas), then this would not have been necessary. Had Russia not stepped in, the UA would have slaughtered the people of Donbas. Would you be happy to see that? Do you believe the people of Donbas have the right to reject the rule and oppression by Kiev?

The targets in Kiev were 1) The Luch Design Bureau - missile manufacturing. 2) a Patriot battery 3) SBU (the people who claimed responsibility for the assassination of Lt Gen Kirillov) command headquarters. The damage in Kiev , shown by the MSM would have been from shot-down missiles. It was Ukraine that caused this damage not Russia.

  50. The US screwed up by signing a 20 year 'fixed-price' ($235/ton) LNG contract with China. China is able to free up that LNG with gas it buys from Russia - also at a discount. - and will continue to sell it for a vast profit for many years to come! China is laughing all the way to the bank!!!
