Printing money for pandemic payments, competition in the bond markets for record borrowing, supply chain delays, untimely new taxes. Who didn’t expect interest rate rises and/or inflation?
151
No. Anyone with the slightest intelligence knew it would be the outcome.

Bearing in mind the amount of money every country has had to pump into their economy during the last couple of years of the pandemic (along with drastically reduced tax receipts) one of two things was inevitable: either interest rates increasing as countries compete in the bonds market for a limited supply of money or inflation increases as governments simply print more money. My feeling is we will be seeing both before within the next year.

Bearing in mind he was a POW how did he count them all?

@laurac2783 80% in hospitals are unvaccinated. 20% of the population is unvaccinated. Simple arithmetic…unvaccinated are sixteen times more likely to be hospitalised than vaccinated.
9
Well, that's ended the problem in America. When's he going to sort out the rest of the world?
8
Exports? To the rest of their EU empire? Didn't take long for Germany to forget their wonderful partners.
8
Meme Bump The UK has the lowest infection and death rate in Europe. I agree - we have to keep you out.
8
They should have bought it through Brussels. It might arrive by 2023.
8
Despite the news stories vaccine developments are international collaborative efforts. What the EU is proposing will likely put a stop to this. I fear in the long run Europeans will be the losers as the rest of the world shares their efforts and progresses.
6
As the world looks ever eastward this is likely to be the story of all European industry. Why the EU is looking for “trade deals” with countries like China is a mystery - the trade is only going to be in one direction.
5
That’s funny….had mine in cardiff this morning. 🤔
5
It works better than dying from the infection.
5
Jason Lukiv You rely on YouTube commenters for information? Wow are you going to have a confused life.
5
At least the Germans will be happy.
4
The Ukrainians will sell them to Iran - like they did with soviet nuclear tech.
4
Can’t we just have one more?
4
A loose union of 27 different countries bickering, squabbling and manipulating every situation to their advantage, with the US in the background pulling strings, is unreliable? Is he sure?
4
@DavidHalverson Russia is more than self sufficient in food, fuel and strategic materials. I’m not sure if cutting off their supply of iPhones and other Chinese junk will disrupt them to any great extent.
4
I'm guessing they're not buying it through Brussels.
4
Germany has always had a fondness for vegans and vegetarians. Their most famous leader was one I believe.
4
No.
4
Lol! All cut up for crappy furniture made from sawdust and glue.
3
Are Germany still refusing to send life saving masks to Italy.
3
@deanfielding4411 I agree with you….the anti-vaxxers are the dregs of uneducated society who serve no purpose other than spreading their diseases. They should be locked away and never allowed to breed. And I speak as a humanitarian.
3
pascal jacob Many parts of the service sector were excluded from the single market to protect the outdated European economy. Good luck with your oompah music!
3
Never mind...I'm sure Germany will claim to have the lowest number of cases and deaths.
3
paddy cell No, they want to stockpile it "just in case" and let poorer people who need it die.
3
Solar Ray So what's your solution?
3
Tom Thumb try riding your pushbike through northern France and see how quickly their towns and villages are disappearing.
3
ppepr96 The virus came to the UK from the continent - and European scientists know it. Unfortunately they were too slow to identify it before it spread to Britain and into every other European country.
3
AstraZeneca is selling their vaccine at cost - no profit. It’s a tenth of the price of other vaccines. Do you understand why there’s so much bad press about it now? Probably not.
3
Kenneth Phillips The fact it spread through the UK from the channel ports is a clear indication of where it came from. If the French were more vigilant with their testing they'd have identified it six months ago.
3
Despite the efforts of the European media It seems to most people they’re trying to keep the war going.
3
Bwe S Does the fact the new variant first appeared at the UK Channel ports not tell you where it came from? All Britain has done is identify a new variant which came here from Europe.
3
rune jennow You're so wrong it's not even worth trying to correct you.
3
Waiting for the investigation (not by DW News obviously) into Germany's claimed miraculously low death rate. 😆b
3
Never mind. I'm pretty sure their claimed death rate will be miraculously low.

Kit Talon Shhhhh! Don't mention nationalism to Germans. They can be a bit touchy.
2
😂
2
They need some German politicians. So they can lie about the figures better.
2
XPuntar If I give you a thumbs up will you go away?
2
doocieonu You might change your mind when the EU finally enforces tax rates across the empire.
2
I doubt AstraZeneca are too worried. They’re selling their vaccine for no profit - at a tenth of the price of their competitors. Which might explain the bad press being spread.
2
Germany dodged a bullet when they dumped useless von der Lying on the EU.
2
Captain Iohannes Killyloris Oh dear! Protectionism rarely gets anything moving - try stagnating.
2
I would like to know why Germany's figures are such an obvious load of bollocks.
2
Bainsworth There's a bit of a queue to get out now.....
2
I can see this encouraging pharmaceutical companies to spend billions on developing new treatments. /s.
