When the Chinese resisted that led to series of "opium wars" where Indian sepoys were used to suppress the Chinese. This Chinese refer to as "century of humiliation" where India and Indians under British occupation played a very big role. Majority of the old Parsi, Marwari and Gujarati companies made their wealth through the opium trade under the patronage of East India Company and the British. Prior to 1971, it was looting East Pakistan and was getting massive aid from gulf and Western countries. After 1971, East Pakistan from where Pakistan used to get 70% of its foreign exchange became Bangladesh. With the end of cold war and war in Afghanistan, aid from Western countries also started dwindling. Now economic health of gulf countries is not so good. Hence, aid from gulf countries are also reducing. In other words, today's Pakistan used to be the recruitment ground for colonial British India Army without the economy to sustain the same. Pakistan, is existing on borrowed time.

In a press conference, Rahul Gandhi was blaming others for not playing the role of the opposition. Irrelevance of Congress due to their obsession with the unelectable Nehru Gandhis has led to a situation where the opposition has completely disappeared from the ground. It is the job of the opposition to ensure that the election commission is independent and elections are conducted through a system which is completely transparent and foolproof. How can democracy survive where the election commission rigs elections through an electoral process which no one can understand and thereby can be rigged easily without the knowledge of anyone?

This is how Sikkim ended up with majority Nepali population. When the king of Sikkim wanted to address this issue in 1975, the large Nepali population of Sikkim engineered a coup with the help of Indian army which led to the illegal merger of Sikkim with India without the consent of the king and the real natives of Sikkim.

Defense doesn't creates wealth and is a pure cost center. If 70% of the nation's budget only goes to a non value creation activity, that nation is in for serious trouble. This happened with USSR and now happening to Pakistan. Pakistan has been propped up with aid from USA and Arab countries particularly Saudi Arabia. Now when these aid have either stopped or come down to a trickle, Pakistan economy cannot support its expenditure bulk of which goes to Pakistan military. Hence, the appeal is more to Pakistan army that Pakistan economy can no longer support the humongous Pakistan military therefore it needs to mend fences with India.

Till that happens, we have to reverse engineer and beat our competitiors on cost just like Japan, S.Korea did in the past followed by China. Problem with us is, our companies aren't good at reverse engineering. This is they are selling goods designed by Europeans, manufactured in China but assembled under an Indian brand to be sold in India. This is leading to a massive 101 billion dollars trade deficit with China.

Fact is, in 1947, East Pakistan used to have bigger economy than West Pakistan. This situation started changing after the 1958 coup by Gen Ayub Khan. This is when West Pakistan started impoverishing East Pakistan to enrich itself. . This is the genesis of the resentment of the Bengalis towards West Pakistan. The Bengalis who visited newly created Islamabad, used to say that they can smell their looted money to create this city. It was not the politicians, public or journalists but the Bengali economists who were the driving force behind the 6 points of autonomy of East Pakistan from West Pakistan which ultimately led to the 8 months long bloody civil war and birth of Bangladesh. In fact, a Harvard educated Bengali economist had predicted breakup of Pakistan to Gen Ayub Khan way back in 1960. As per Tariq Ali, 70% of Pakistan's foreign exchange in 1971 used to come from the jute trade in East Pakistan. Pakistan was broke from the very beginning. It got the recruitment ground of the British India Army but not the economy. With the breakup of Pakistan in 1971, Pakistan is economically unviable. After 1971, it has been artificially propped up by USA, Saudi Arabia and China. Withdrawal of US support after 2022, has started Pakistan's current economic crisis. Saudi Arabia too is no longer keen on carrying the burden of Pakistan for too long. Only China is still propping up Pakistan with one loan after another leading to China becoming the largest debtor of Pakistan. Economic collapse of Pakistan will lead to further breakup of that country artificially created by forcibly merging parts of India, Afghanistan and Balochistan to house all the Muslims in the Indian subcontinent.

There are more Gujaratis in West Bengal than Bengalis in Gujarat. I remember when I was posted in Kolkata, entire Eden Garden stadium was booked by Gujaratis for some festival. When bhaiyya laborers raped a minor Gujarati girl, only 50,000 bhaiyyas were chased out of Gujarat. If you compare these numbers you'll get shocking insights. Large number of senior TMC leaders are Biharis like Firhad Hakim, Arjun Singh etc. Nearly all gujju, bhaiyya TMC leaders have ditched TMC and joined BJP in WB.

Rocket force The above are only a few areas but which will be far more important than artillery and light tanks. India needs to work with USA for a more than 1000 kms range HIMARS. India needs to take the help of Isreal and Russia to build a more than 1000 kms range S400 type system. Artillery even with rocket assisted shells can hit at most targets 100 kms away. This won't be of much use against China where distances involved are huge. India needs to work with USA for a rapid dragon type palletized munitions. PS: It is not Bofors artillery but Israeli laser guided bombs dropped from Mirage 2000 that changed the course of war in Kargil. Pakistan army had entrenched themselves well in Kargil disguised as Kashmiri Mujahideen. They had factored in shelling from Indian military and therefore had prepared for the same. Even after extensive and intensive shelling India couldn't dislodge the Pakistanis. India tried aerial attacks but those too failed. It is after this India took help of Isreal to integrate laser guided bombs with Mirage 2000. It is only after this precision bombing from Mirage 2000 that Pakistanis suffered heavy casualties leading to Nawaz Sharif imploring Bill Clinton to stop the war. This created animosity between Nawaz Sharif and Gen Musharraf which ultimately led to a military coup by Musharraf against Nawaz Sharif.
