@wisnuape Thanks for the explanation. I would love to have the mind to understand mathematical formulas and see the beauty in them, as Witten often talks about, because this stuff is fascinating, but my brain just isn't wired that way.
2
@wisnuape I've watched a few of his videos in the past. It does help to visualize things.

He's a billionaire that's for certain, but not impressive in it's own right....weather he makes a long lasting mark on the world IMO remains to be seen.
2
Do you really think he has a chance of interviewing Putin?
2
The guest correlates happiness material gains, but one of the most ancient and important philosophical teachings shows us that attachment is the source of all suffering. The only way to true way to real happiness is connecting with yourself and others. You can witness this by traveling to the biggest populated slums on this planet where people don't have a toilette to shit on, literally, but they're the most welcoming and happy, smiling people you will ever meet.

Human nature is humanity's biggest threat.

One day we have ham and bacon, and the next day ain't nothing shaking

The Tesla Bot is like his flame thrower...This is not a humanoid robot.
2
The biggest sign that one is highly intelligent is solving problems.
2
I think they need to redesign the touring test. There are some people who have failed it. That just doesn't make sense.
2
I would add this... that we each live in our own unique world, so it becomes doubly important to treat others how you would like to be treated.
2
I'm surprised Lex hasn't realize that the technological tools that made our civilization so advanced might also end us.
2
@didafm Fear is the greatest motivator.

clocks don't measure time, they measure other clocks.
2
I think babies are closer to Gods. They're born free of... humanness.
2
You're not having a thought, thoughts happen.
2
@kaushikkam2596 you actually find yourself when you lose consciousness.
2
@kaushikkam2596 The self lies at the core of every human personality. The purpose of life is to discover this reality experientially while here on Earth. But to discover the self, you have to lose consciousness. This tradition was taught systematically in every ashram thousands of years ago...and it still is today but to a lesser extent. That's the whole purpose of Yoga.

I think Sam refers to it as "It" because he's wiser than most people who refer to it by other pronouns. I think most serious coders realize that no amount of code can ever give rise to self-awareness (Ghost in the machine), the thing for which we reserve pronouns like "He" or "She."
2
@fluentpiffle Beautiful quotes and excellent observations. Thanks for sharing.
2
@SaadPlayzs well when you’re worth 200 billion it’s easy to say that you don’t do it for the money, but he is doing a lot for the planet, and he’s an exceptional example
2
In ancient Hindu philosophy, it's not the world that's unreal, it's our sense of separateness that's an illusion. That's another way of putting it I suppose.
2
@cuzza4321 Yeah I get winning, we're all competitive, including myself. No one likes losing. I just draw the line at severe bodily harm...that's where the mindset to win seems insane to me. But yeah man, I've seen crazier shit than that. I'm willing to wager that someone with that mindset has had a rough childhood.
2
@graydon woods That sounds like an amazing trip, my dude. I've heard Mckenna describe some crazy experiences but I've also heard of bad trips on DMT...It really does come down to the set and setting. I've done Psilocybin plenty of times, which is a close relative of DMT...but yeah man, I gotta take the plunge...I need to find a reliable sitter.
2
@graydon woods Well...I'll see if I can work up my courage. Thinking about it reminds me of a riding a roller coaster for the first time, both scared and excited. Thanks for the tips, man. Bro, when you mentioned your friends trip, it reminded me about a trip report I read about this girl who said she was stuck inside a taxi cab for a thousand years...I don't think it was DMT though. Def don't read trip reports before blasting off, lol
2
All this is good and well, except some researchers are pushing the date of the Egyptian pyramids to 12,000 years BCE.
2
People fear not death, but death of the ego....and public speaking can be a from of ego death if it goes horribly wrong.
2
The biggest dragon to have ever existed according to the historical records was about 1,000 miles long. I believe it's mentioned in some religious texts, but don't ask me which.
2
@BryanJordan1 intelligence is all about information processing? Computers have been processing information faster than us since the 50’s.
2
@ether23-23 I find it very fascinating as well. My thinking has shifted somewhat throughout my life but the notion that there is an immortal and immutable realm has been pretty persistent in my thinking. I've been practicing yoga meditation to confirm this for myself for 25 years now. I feel like each day I come closer, but it takes persistent practice.
2
@gardensofthegods Several years ago I was in the early stages of planning a trip, then my wife and I had a baby so it got placed on the back burner. But I hope I can make it one day.

"Thou art more lovely and more temperate"
2
@Christian-yg9hf Well... that's why lions are rightly named the King of the Jungle.
2
Negative thoughts lead to depression. I would suggest getting out of the house or doing some exercise to keep your mind pre-occupied.
2
Civilizations have been here before, we're ancient, but all evidence gets destroyed with time.
2
One doesn't get old just to get ugly, but to learn. -Paco de Lucia
2
That answer was way too overcomplicated. Of course there is suffering in life. I think the point of spiritual paths like Buddhism and Some Yogic traditions is to minimize or eliminate the suffering by showing the way to minimize material attachment, which is the source of the suffering.
2
comfortably numb
2
There's a huge discrepancy between modern astronomy which puts the universe at around 13 billion years old and ancient Hindu philosophy which puts it at around 300 trillion. I've always thought 13 billion seemed small.
2
@SkeletonModel91 lmao
2
I bet Elon is pulling the old "Gamestop" scam with Dogecoin. He has probably invested millions by now.
2
I agree... whether its selecting L&G vs Hydrogen for your rocket propellants or KFC vs Taco Bell for dinner.
2
@brettbeard870 To me it seems as though he's just formulating a thought but struggling a bit to get it out.
2
She also had a great mind, and perhaps it takes a great mind to receive her message.
2
We watch TV, they watch us.
2
Megadeth - Every song on Rust in Peace from beginning to end is a masterpiece.
2
@justaguy328 Yea that's pretty much what I do. There's confusion between the two, but I meant fingering possibilities for scales more than scales themselves. There's really only one scale. The major scale and everything else is an alteration of the major scale.
2
@Oscarrrrrrrrrrr Yes you could stop there. For me, I see guitar as an instrument that I'll devote a lifetime to learning. I'll likely never learn every single permutation, and as you said, I don't think it's needed, but I try to learn something new on the guitar every single day.

Pass, I don't want to look like Benjamin Button.
