  1. My impression after the video is that not having those consumer conveniences could really be a pain in the ass. However it's a country that offers great tax benefits and easy second residence. So no it's not perfect but it can be very beneficial for people who are not that wealthy yet but want the tax savings and a global lifestyle. The way I see it not having access to the consumer conveniences is the price to pay. Also if the trifecta is your thing and your other bases are more exciting and fast paced places, perhaps u could use a break in Uruguay while taking advantage of the tax incentives

  2. The thing is I'm Portuguese and I'm actually trying to leave. U didn't mention but it's very high taxed. Corporate tax 21%, Social Security 23%, income tax rate 48%, consumption tax is 23% for most products, things like alcohol, gas, cigarettes, etc have an even higher consumption tax, and ofc, about half of the electricity price is taxes making it one of the countries in Europe with the most expensive electricity bill to the point more people die of cold during the winter in Portugal than they do in countries like Norway, Sweden, etc which are substsncially colder

Our government is a coalition between the democratic socialists, a far left party called the Left Block, the communists and the greens being the socialists the major party in Parliament. The second largest party is the social democrats that as u can see are not in the coalition cause they're too right wing even tho u can tell by the name their ideology is center left. I would say that the only situation where u may need a cbi is if you're an American citizen or of course in more extreme conditions like political persecution, etc, that if you're a westerner that probably doesn't happen. My opninon is if you're not American and u have a decent passport u don't need a citizenship quickly and I'd focus on naturalisation. Perhaps start a business, hire people, or even do the trifecta so in a few years u qualify for citizenship in those places. Cbi programs are expensive and you're basically buying a passport that probably doesn't add much to your current passport or your portfolio while by naturalisation u may spend more in some cases but u have the benefit of living there and usually own property that u can use as u please and even sell in the future

I like that it's an investment instead of a donation, it gives u full access to a great and growing domestic economy and it gives u visa free access to some of countries that a nomad capitalist would want visa free access to such as Mexico, the Balkans, Thailand, the UAE, etc. The only situation in which the St. Nevis passport would maybe the better option is if u renounced or are thinking of renouncing your western citizenship and don't want to lose the travel benefits of a westerner

In fact it appears their first death was in September 2020. That's crazy. It also appears they didn't impose lockdowns but closed some sectors like hotels but from what I've read it's reopened since March 8th. Knowing the fundamentals of the country, even if they decide to take some measures u'll have an easier time there than wherever you're from.

  47. I would use Greek citizenship to have access to the Schengen Area and potentially set a base somewhere in Europe or even become a tax resident in, let's say, Hungary. I think it's a nice alternative to the typical no income tax and territorial tax countries for people who can't exactly afford to get a residence permit in the Malaysias or Panamas. By doing that you're also building a tunnel to live in these places in the future as u'd pay substancially lower taxes by living in Hungary instead of Australia

EBITDA means earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization. That said it is the earnings before subtracting interest, tax, depreciation and amortization. So no, buying equipment does not affect your EBTIDA nor does reducing taxes. Instead buying equipment changes your EBIT, EBT and Net Income

  58. I'll personally have to disagree with some of these. I don't like little islands without an at least mid size urban center. For that reason I'd prefer the Bahamas over the cayman Islands and I'd take Jersey out. I didn't know Ireland and Austria could be tax friendly but from what u've said in the video Austria only works for a very specific niche. For that reason I'd rather consider lump sum tax countries (Switzerland, the UK and Italy). About the UAE, perhaps Qatar or Bahrain are better for families but I don't mind it too much. One country I think you're missing is Georgia. It's safe it's laid back, it's emerging which I think is important if you're raising kids, from a nomad capitalist point of view, u probably don't want them to become like most people are in the west. Perhaps the schools aren't that good but I believe that assuming you're able to pay there might be good schools and if u can't find one that u like u can hire a tutor of your trust

  78. I agree. I happen to think all these indexes and stuff are biased towards the west, if not intentionally than because the criteria are chosen through a western view. The most obvious example of this is the HDI which among other things measures years of education while it doesn't matter the return of that education. That being said in an eastern country like India or Pakistan u don't need as many years of education to have the same opportunities or job prospects because there is less competition for qualified jobs. Assuming Indians and Pakistanis are not dumb y would they have a 20 year education to become say an engineer when they can become an engineer with say a 10 year education. In my opinion this is an obvious example of bias and u just see that comparing to Georgia or Estonia the US is not free at all and yet it's 17th place

Turkey is one of my options along with Georgia and Armenia (Egypt and Azerbaijan would also be options but i would need a visa and I don't wanna deal with that so early).   135. Comparing the US to Switzerland, I would in that case pick a Florida or a Texas, just more my cup of tea. Looking at it from an holistic point of view I'd try places like the Gulf, Singapore, Hong Kong, where I could still get a higher salary but pay a lot less in taxes. I mean even if your salary is higher in the US than say the UAE, maybe you're getting a better deal in the UAE when u account for taxes, it depends on the numbers. Then u also gotta look at housing, cost of living, etc. Just go for the better deal and make sure to go throw all your options before making a decision

For example if u can't get a citizenship by marriage or decent u might wanna consider paper resedency in which u get a residence permit and come back a couple of yours later to collect your citizenship or spend little time a year in the country, u don't wanna try that in a country with long presence requirements. One good example is Mexico, u can get a temporary residence permit just by showing proof of an income, that u can support yourself. U'd eventually have to get a permanent residence permit and eventually u could get a citizenship whitin 5 years. If you're willing to spend some time there, maybe spend your vacations there, that could facilitate the process. There are obviously other options and in my opinion u should focus on paper residency options if u don't qualify for citizenship by decent. Another thing that u might be willing to do is naturalization, but again all depends on what you're willing to do. I suggest that u inform yourself about second passport options in diffrent countries and set boundaries on what you're willing to do and spend to get that insurance passport

So the point is u can work on that passport pretty much remotely but if a base in Chile is to your liking u can live there tax free most of the time and the passport is about as good as it gets for someone who wants nomadic tax free lifestyle. Sure it's not guaranteed but the most time u spend the higher are your chances and spending time there won't compromise your tax bill

I'd like to hear your take not just in terms of taxation but also what it means for your nomad lifestyle. Which would increase your freedom the most and in which case would u be treated best?

  346.  @torontovoice1  I don't think u need to have a resident permit to become a tax resident, it's usually just the place u spend the most time in. So for example the modified trifecta that I think works best for me is 6-3-3. In your main base u spend half a year (northern hemisphere fall and spring) and therefore are subject to pay tax so it must be tax friendly and a bit more developed. Some examples would be Santiago, KL, Dubai, Hong Kong, etc. The other 2 based are essentially places that u like but wouldn't live there for the taxes, quality of life, climate, whatever reason to find not to live in a place that u like. So for example, I like Panama City but wouldn't live there full time cause I figured I'd get sick of the island-like living, but I definetly wouldn't mind spending a few months there. Another examples are Egypt, Turkey, Peru, Vietnam, etc . I like em but they're not tax friendly so I'm just spending a few months there. Also places like Uzbekistan, Cambodia or Bolivia. Nothing wrong with spending a few months there but I personally want it a little more developed or sophisticated if u like. And the best part about this is depending on the country and your passports u might only need one resident permit which is your main base. I'd also get sick of em so I'd change em every few years and if I don't need a residence permit in a place to spend 3 months there I might just rent for the time being and change it following year

For example, assuming you're single and a 500k income which sets u on the 1% of earners, if u live in zero tax state u'd be paying an effective tax rate of 29.03% or 32.79% when u account for FICA. Even if your income was 10M and assuming the same conditions you're effective rate would be bellow 40% even when accounting for FICA. That said it's not only possible but likely that someone paying 45% is rich

Please do not mistake nominal rates for effective rate. Unless half a million is only a tiny fraction of your income your effective federal rate is nowhere near 37%. That said you're not paying half of your income in tax in the US like u would be in Europe where nominal tax rates are not so different, but effective rates are. While in the US only half a million in income sets u in the top nominal rate, in Europe someone making low 6 figures pays half of it in tax

From my experience public care just takes too long, u might spend the night there just to get a doctor to see u in the emergency room. My experience with private care is they don't really wanna be competitive, they just wanna suck as much money from u as they can, stuff like misdiagnosis or making u do procedures u don't really need just to get u to pay. About Portugal, if u wanna buy in Lisbon u need to worry cause next year properties in Lisbon, Porto and some parts of Algarve will no longer qualify for the golden visa. And yes it's 5 years but u can just pop in every once in a while, u don't need to actually live there. Also there's a 10 year tax holiday so if u do decide to spend time there u could do so tax free and let's face it, the language is pretty easy to learn and if u do want to become a citizen it makes sense to have cultural ties

For the other, I think 5 years until u can apply for citizenship, u only need to visit the country so u don't lose your residency. My question was whether once u apply for citizenship you're actually gonna get it in a reasonable timeline of it's more like Panama where your application is just sitting on a desk for years

  475. I think it all comes down to the entrepreneural culture. A lot people start business which need financing which creates high demand for that field and hence a lot of funds and investment banks who have high demand workers. What I'm trying to say is finance jobs in the US are a lot more well paid than in Europe for a similar cost of living. In the US while u can make close to or even above 100k out of college those numbers are almost unachievable in Europe for anyone in the field. I think that comes from higher demand of financing which comes from more people starting businesses. Which makes sense I mean people were coming to the US to make money while people in Europe still had virtually no mobility due to the aristocrat system. So I guess that shapes culture, Americans are culturally more likely to take risks and start business, the first risk being getting on a ship to foreign land. U can see that influence in the banking system, getting loan in Europe is much harder. That said it's not the place that makes millionaires, it's culture and ultimately individual choice. U can see that by taking a look at the countries with more billionaires per capita

For example if the requirements are starting a company, having a bank account, spending some time there, etc, these are the best second citizenships because these are passports u get along the way, u already gotta have your company based somewhere, keep your money somewhere and spend time (whitin reason) somewhere so y not make some adjustments so that u get passports along the way by doing things u already had to do. Said that I don't like the carribbean cbi programmes cause u have to sacrifice the amount of the donation, a donation is not something u'd have to do independently from the passport just by being a nomad

If you're looking to replace Miami, Panama City is widely recognized as the Miami of Latin America. In my personal opinion Brazil has also got tons of coastal cities with modern infrastructure but again probably won't feel like Miami

If your company is incorporated anywhere else, but your country sees it legally as a national country either cause u live there or cause the company is being managed or even just the idea belongs to the country (the rules depend on the country), then your country might your company as a CFC, or an offshore company that "really" belongs to the country if u wish, in that case u pay the normal rate from your country
