Premier Stalin to Prime Minister Churchill: "Without these two forms of help the USSR will either suffer defeat or be weakened to such an extent that it will lose for a long time any capacity to render assistance to its allies" About 4 years later: "The glorious and mighty USSR could have reached Berlin on it's own haha.

Pretty much propaganda, for the Germans, lines on the map not moving was nothing to celebrate, whilst for the Soviets the idea of never ending fascist assaults and finally stopping them in Stalingrad is far better than "we've launched 100s of offensives and they all failed miserably"

"Difficult topic" lol, talking about German war crimes is an easy topic. A difficult topic would be Anglo-American war crimes.
26
Axis did it: Not Justified Allies did it: Justified Simple as. /s
19
Then they should petition the American government to withdraw their military bases.
15
You either die a Langsdorff or live long enough to become a Model (only if your side totally loses though)
14
@gratefulguy4130 Medium difficulty, at least in "the west". Hard difficulty in Russia. Easy in Poland.
12
@thekinginyellow1744 "the Military Tribunal agreed with the prosecution" is one of the most ridiculous sentences you can read on Wikipedia.
10
Well under the current pro-American plutocratic configuration the strategy is to make things and make money. Appease America whilst also trying to not lose China as an economic partner.
9
absolutely nothing happened between 1945 and 1950 according to western historiography. It's quite interesting lol.
9
@sovietheart3883 It's not false, it's a direct quote from "Documents on British Foreign Policy". Which is a collection of telegrams by foreign ministers, diplomats and leaders. Document is dated 4th September 1941.
7
@shawnkennedy855 and how were they going to win without oil, food and natural resources ?
7
nah factory workers didn't need food nor aluminium in order to build tanks, at least that's according to tankies.
7
Because there's no political opposition in the plutocratic police state of Britain lol
7
fight harder
6
@Purlictor yes, the soviets treated their POWs humanely, just ask the 10 Germans that survived Soviet camps
6
@looinrims Well sadly its just a bunch of commie blocks, not much left of Konigsberg today
5
"but the USSR made more trucks than they got in lend-lease" Perhaps, but they wouldn't have made any trucks without the few hundred tanks delivered in November 1941. Targeted statistics are key here, like 40% of Soviet tanks during the defence of Moscow were from lend-lease.
5
@HistoryGameV no you.
5
Even with armor it just sounds like you'll be creating a pocket for the enemy to easily encircle.
5
@graveperil2169 allied apologists: "They did it first" is not a valid justification for war crimes. also allied apologists:
5
@silverhost9782 It's a very simple and basic point. Without these tanks being operated by professionals who have been trained on them for years if not decades, and not supported by a full NATO logistics train, then these tanks are alot less effective and more likely to be destroyed or captured. If Ukrainians are to use them then they'd need years of training before using them.

ger du "In the history of humanity" Pax Americana isn't the history of humanity tbh.
4
@genericpersonx333 " let's declare war on the Americans, because the top American politicians made no secret to Germany that they wanted war with Germany" you should probably view MHV's video on why funny mustache man declared war on USA and it was mostly because he thought that for all intents and purposes the USA was already fully involved in the war in its most impactful sense (i.e. supplying Germany's enemies with impunity).
4
Was oil discovered in Lybia at that time? Turns out the Netherlands and Germany itself had all the oil the Germans needed, except these oil fields weren't discovered at the time.
4
"Bonnet declared emphatically that Mr Chamberlain had literally saved both our countries from supreme catastrophe last September. If we had gone to war then France would have had only two aeroplanes capable of flying 450 kilometres per hour. It seems that General Georges, who would command the French land forces in case of war, declared recently to Bressy and to Chastenet, that if France had gone to war on that occasion the French Army would have been beaten. And yet, said Bonnet, certain unscrupulous people on the left in France and Britain continued to talk about "les Munichois" as though that were a term of contempt!"
4
Historians seem to repeat themselves probably because "Adolf Hitler's Evil Henchmen and How Germany Started WW2" is more likely to be published and sell well compared to "Edward Halifax's Evil Plot and How Britain Started WW2", given the result of said conflict.
3
@-Zevin- Except actually they would turn it away if they didn't need it. They turned away Marshall aid.
3
@MAP1-234 The Soviets were literally using children by 1945. Contrary to popular myth, the Soviets did not have unlimited manpower. Without the western fronts, even in 1944, they would have been even more stretched.
3
@MAP1-234 Kids? Yes. Chuikov said that 16 year olds were his best troops in the battles of 1945. Do you also know how many casualties they incurred ? A lot.
3
it is to the belligerents
3
the only conquest germany needed or wanted was ironically the country that supplied them the resources.
2
Not to mention some of them were actually able to talk to the policy makers themselves, such as Simon Newman in "March 1939: The British Guarantee to Poland"
2
11:37 - What does Tooze make of H man's "extraordinarily generous" offer to Poland in 13938/early 1939 ?
2
This debate is interesting because everyone thought they'd lose if war broke out in 1938 which is why Munich happened lol
2
@MilitaryHistoryNotVisualized >People also think I am German, since I speak German, but I am Austrian, same thing lol
2
The USSR was clearly opportunistic in the situation but your argument that somehow they were innocent in their land grab is a bit laughable really
2
@bezahltersystemtroll5055 Thing is everything in history is a gamble. Declaring war on Germany in the first place was a gamble for Chamberlain. Any event in history could be considered a gamble. The only "good decisions" are gambles that payed off.
2
because Britain still stuck to the antiquated balance of power doctrine and russia wasn't much of a threat as Germany was. simple as. Germany offered time and again for Britain to allow Germany dominance over Europe in return for Germany to protect the British empire but Britain just refused. And, well, both Britain and Germany lost the ensuing conflict.
2
Yeah but if you have shit tactics then you can still waste all your logistics
2
@Paciat I imagine we'd all still be blaming Germany for war if it was the Germans that maliciously undermined Anglo-Irish relations, went around Europe looking for allies in said war and then ultimately declared war on Britain after refusing a peace conference.
1
@Paciat Why do you include war time invasions that otherwise would not have occurred ? Or do you think the Brits would invade Iceland, Iran, Norway, Portugal and Lybia outside of the war ? "Germany one day invaded Poland". You should read Simon Newman's "march 1939 the british guarantee to poland" and then read the primary sources of the diplomatic communications in "documents on british/ german foreign policy" to get the full picture yourself. Germany wanted and tried to get a peaceful and by (German) standards a very amicable deal with Poland. It was the British that feared Poland would remain a partner of Germany instead of an antagonist and thus sought to undermine their relations with Germany. Even if we pretend the narrative is as simple as "Britain merely defended Poland from big bad Germany", it was still Britain that chose to start a war against Germany. Has Russia started WW3 for invading Ukraine ? Did the USA start WW3 by invading Iraq ?
1
@Paciat "You think Hitler raised his army for not fighting at peace negotiations?" Yes actually. In 1930 and 31 Austria and Germany sought to form a peaceful, cordial trade relationship. Germany had no army, the French did not want this to happen and threatened Germany. Had Germany had an army, France would have had no position to dictate upon Germany and Austria's bilateral trade relations. So it was actually proven that you need an army even to have a peaceful and wholesome economic existence.

Pedro Kantor >No Western country's national survival was ever at stake in the fight against ISIS Nor was it in WW2, or have yet to read a "Hitlers plans for colonizing france" book
1
As well as preventing the chaos caused by being overstretched due to Typhoon.
1
"responsible for the worst crimes in the history of man" And what would that be ? Worse than, say, massacring villagers and spraying chemical weapons over their crops ? I am of course referring to modern events with the Vietnam War but "in the history of man" I guess we should probably count the extermination of the Native Indians as one of "the worst crimes in the history of man".
1
@PalleRasmussen "even today 37% of the population of the US has German ancestry." most likely because in time the amount of family members gets wider and wider, even if you have a single grandparent an American would say "I have German ancestry"
1
@genericpersonx333 Roosevelt would probably declare war on Germany weeks or even months after December 1941 though. Even if they needed to manufacture outrage over some mysterious incident to declare war against Germany as America did against the Spanish in 1898.
1
@TheStephaneAdam I'm far from any expert at the micro logistics but like, how can the German army have been "worn out" after barely 2 weeks fighting in France, yet just one year later were able to drive towards Moscow for 5 months without being worn out ?
1
@TheStephaneAdam 6 weeks was the whole campaign, we're talking about the halt order given barely 2 weeks into campaign against france
