"Apparently many of the famous celebrities of their day were 'Canadians,' indicating that pornographic film stars were considered the upper echelon of society."

This video popping into my feed a day after the announcement that Michelle Yeoh is doing a feature-length streaming movie for Paramount+ is evidence of The Algorithm at work.

I thought the first and second clips were on the same subject for a second.

Yes.

This was 2010ish when Firefox had grown incredibly bloated. Sure it was better than IE, but that's not saying much. This was the era that birthed Chrome, which was an absolute revelation for how minimalist and lightweight it was. Yeah, I know. Really weird to hear Chrome described that way in 2023.

He was a mac user. That's a Gen 5 iMac. Would have topped out at 512MB of RAM with a 2.1GHz PowerPC (single-core?) CPU. For context, a Raspberry Pi 4B has four cores that can be pushed to that clock, and up to 16x the RAM.

@marcoasturias8520 You're nuts. Floridaman doctor deals with shark bites and alligator bites and manatee assaults on the daily. You gonna trust an injury like that to a doctor from California who makes his rep treating allergic reactions to kale?

Just a reminder that the "shirtless Biden washing his GTO on the White House driveway" was only parody in that Biden is solidly a Corvette guy

The thing is this is literally what they ended up doing with CERN's predecessor--Fermilab pioneered "neutron therapy," a non-surgical, non-chemo cancer treatment where they LITERALLY shoot a beam of high-energy neutrons at you. Because neutrons deposit the bulk of their energy only after a certain penetration depth, they can target extremely-hard-to-reach tumors in 3D and minimize damage done to surrounding healthy tissue.

Not really. The anti-Trump memorabilia market is just as strong in 2023 as it was in 2017. Honestly, if you told me that Trump himself had a large stake in the companies putting out that stuff, I'd totally believe you.
1
You made this post in... 2019? Yep, checks out.

Fido, Mittens, Scruffles, Bear, Oreo, Bunbun, Bubbles, Gary and Mr. Gerbil. From the size of the skeletons, they were clearly very young children. Truly disgusting.

Your avi elevates this statement to perfection

Why are you surprised that America's No. 1 trusted news source does its research? 😉
1
I love hate how they're able to just reuse all their content from 2016 with zero changes.

@dontspikemydrink9382 Two years late: the joke is that a lot of exchanges coordinated over Craigslist were done in parking lots in broad daylight out of fear that the other person was trying to scam and/or murder the other. Appreciate your handle, btw. Feels apt for this conversation.
1
Are you the reason I once didn't have any radishes?

It's November 2022, and I assume this video is trending again because of the Elizabeth Holmes verdict. For those reading this reply in the future: Elizabeth Holmes was a white, blonde woman scam artist who literally told someone, "They don't put pretty people like me in jail" before being eventually sentenced to 11 years in a Texan penal camp.
1
When you wrote this the news would have even been relevant because JCP had just declared bankruptcy and closed 200 stores...

@pryingeyes1551 Idk, as an aging millennial who grew up reading The Onion in print my impression is that what they're doing now with their TikTok / YouTube Shorts is 💯 in line with the ethos of The Onion of my own youth. They're meeting the current generation where they're at and offering them the same sort of biting satire and off-the-wall absurdism, just repackaged into a new format. It's glorious, really.

Came for the decade-old news. Stayed for the incisive political commentary. Liked for the verbal abuse.
1
@Tadfafty Major AWS outage, which revealed just how much of the internet runs on AWS.
1
Love, Death and Robots had a few variants on this in Volume III.

I farm upvotes on social media.

It's definitely important to keep an eye on that stuff. That's why my data mining company mines data on companies that mine data.
1
The Cannonball Run part was what got me. It's something that I can absolutely imagine Biden doing (reminder that the only thing separating the "Shirtless Biden Washes Trans Am In White House Driveway" Onion article from reality is that Joe is a Corvette man).
1
For best effect, read the reply from @Gregemio as coming from him in line at Chick-Fil-A
1
If you read the reply from @Gregemio as if he's in line at a Chick-Fil-A it's actually pretty funny.
1
Not only that, but their right-wing counterparts learned from the '08 collapse and seamlessly transitioned from anti-Obama merch to anti-Hillary memorabilia to anti-Biden tchotchkies. For short-term investment though, the real winners in 2022-4 are the factories pumping out "Let's Go Brandon" accessories, given their miraculous appeal on both ends of the spectrum.

Hey, I know it's been twelve years, but do you remember whether you made this post ironically? Or were you not aware of the ONN show airing on IFC?
1
You're too good for Chloe. She'll never love you like I did.

Fox bit a Democratic representative on Capitol Hill last year and was euthanized (for allegedly having rabies). I expected it to be all Tucker Carlson talked about that week...
