Tell that to the Baltic states and Poland. If Ukraine is defeated they have good reason to believe they're next. You want them to just wait and hope for the best? If NATO had made it clear to Putin that they would get boots on the ground and create a no fly zone in Ukraine, Putin would not have invaded. Appeasement never works. The 3 largest powers in the world are all now openly expansionist. Smaller countries have few options open to them other than going nuclear and creating a credible deterrent to the big 3. These smaller countries should collaborate to achieve security.

It's clear that Ukraine cannot defeat Russia at the current levels of support. And it makes more sense to fight Russia in Ukraine rather than inside NATO members borders. As for triggering WW3, that is just regurgitating Russian propaganda. They're never going to commit suicide by using nuclear weapons against NATO.

The US can pull out of NATO but that likely means closing all of their military bases in European countries and losing influence in Europe. Let's remember that the only NATO member that has ever invoked Article 5 is the US. It won't be able to do that ever again.

There's nothing unimaginable about it and I don't think suggesting that possible outcome would be thought of as a straw-man argument by anyone. @cooldad7297 When the US used nukes no other country had them. Now there are literally thousands of nukes around the world. Ukraine was not given everything it needed. And there were severe restrictions placed on them that amounted to tying their hands behind their backs. Russia has already lost the war. They used to be an army feared for their tanks and artillery. They've lost 80% of their tanks already. Ditto for artillery and they're begging North Korea for shells. The longer the war goes on the weaker Russia gets. It's already obvious that after the war ends Russia will have great difficulty surviving in its current form as it will be far weaker than before Putin's huge blunder.
