  5.  @donaldcarey114  Actually IIRC Crimea's population was majority ethnic-Russian even prior to the 2014 annexation (although as you say Russia will have manipulated the demographics even more in their favour since then), which is why I doubt even now that Russian servicemen and their families are the predominant part of the population. Kaliningrad would be another story though.

  26.  @danieljames2015  I'd say "culture" rather than "creed" to be honest, as the main reason why the ex-Caliphate lands (roughly everything from Morocco to Pakistan) are dysfunctional is because of the prevalence of father's-brother's-daughter marriages, which splinters the population into self-contained clans at odds with one another. Muslim countries outside this zone (such as Turkey, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Indonesia) don't have this marriage pattern and are therefore a lot more functional.

  27.  @murphy7801  I definitely think the UK economy is in really bad shape (even if "failed state" is a bit over-dramatic). The problem is that we've run a current account deficit for pretty much the entire period since 1973 (and it got dramatically worse after the turn of the millennium) which has resulted in foreigners taking over our economy. Brexit was an outburst of nationalist rage resulting from this, as well as by the fact that many economic sectors had chosen to rely on immigrant labour: locals are locked out either because they are viewed as lazy, or because the people doing the hiring are themselves immigrants who hire only their co-nationals.

(While hyphenation would be correct for terms like "anti-communism" or "anti-capitalism".) Secondly the way that "antisemitism" refers to bigotry against Jews (even though most actual Semites are Arabs) reminds me of "conventional current" flowing from positive to negative in an electric circuit (even though electrons actually flow from negative to positive): it's a factually-incorrect term that's too well-established to change.
