  2. Gathering of Nations meets once a year in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Cultural events- basically a huge pow-wow. Music, dance, v celebration of various aspects like the horse culture. Over 565 American tribes, 220 from Canada. Not political action. The Gathering of Tribes is an art group. I don’t know if there are any political power groups working together. But there are lots of native newspapers. I hope others have a better answer.

  6. Love it. There is a video- can’t remember the name right now- but it’s about the many accents in England. The filmmaker talked about the recordings made by the Germans of English prisoners of war ( the Great War). She tracked down the families of descendants and played them for them. It was very moving. “ How people sounded in Edwardian times”- the title was something like that. It’s really very haunting.

  33. I hope she gets your message. I remember many years ago visiting a friend who was working on Nantucket. We went to a local place to have a drink and go dancing. I noticed this unusual-looking man and was so happy he asked me to dance. I blurted out how handsome I thought he was. He replied that no one had ever said that, no one thought a native Hawaiian was attractive. He was there on Nantucket working. Anyway- he gave me his mother’s number in Hawaii ( this is before cellphones) and hoped we would meet again someday. I lost the number on the ferry And I still think of him. It’s like that song- there’s always someone haunting someone haunting someone… Maybe he remembers a skinny girl with long auburn hair.
