Funeral homes doing well- so many people dying suddenly and unexpectedly. And lots of people getting chemo, radiation, surgery, rehab. Big business in blood pressure drugs.

Check your receipt before you leave the register. I only buy small amounts at a time because they make mistakes and never in your favor. I lost $9 recently at Safeway because I didn’t check until I got home.

Never ready enough. People aren’t even ready for a snow storm.

Tens of thousands are living in vehicles by necessity. There is an older woman ( channel Lindy & Lovie) who lives in a van and works at Walmart, trying to deal with cancer treatment too. But our govt sends billions $$$ to other countries. People are living in sedans and minivans and campers on trucks. There are tent cities outside Seattle- a lot of those people have jobs or collect SS— but the low income housing goes to “refugees” who sublet the apartments while they go back to their home countries for 6 months at a time. Personally, I only buy fresh carrots and onions , I forage for wild greens and herbs. I trade labor for fresh eggs from a farm. This is the new normal.

8th grade education then was better than high school level today.

The open theft is happening at the local Lowe’s. Homeless walk out with arm loads of machetes, axes- and hand them out at the camp nearby. Same with Walgreens.
32
And you did the right thing to refuse. I did too. But I’ve been to Lots of funerals of the j a b b e d.

This happened to my friend’s mother in Mexico when the peso was devalued.

Try to wean yourself off pharmaceuticals with the help of a naturopathic doctor. Look for herbal alternatives.
25
Panic now. Beat the crowd.
24
If anyone has a Grocery outlet store, check it every day for deals. Four pounds of mozzarella for $5. Red lentil pasta for 10 cents a box. Butter for $2 a pound. 5 dozen eggs for $10. Jars of almond butter for 43 cents. Totally random and it changes constantly. Also look up salvage grocery outlets in your area. Buy canning jars and lids before they sell out.
23
I think avoiding doctors has kept me healthy.
23
I quit dining out when they locked the planet up. I learned to garden and to cook rather well.
22
Maybe we could take a moment to remember what Memorial Day is about.

We have been living this way for two years. We only heat the part of the cottage with the plumbing- -kitchen and bathroom. We insulated the hot water heater. We have a little propane heater for outages which happen every winter. Grocery Outlet here seems to have a daily special- ten jars for 97 cents. Might be gravy or tomato sauce. Dried milk in giant package for 5$. I stop there once a day on my way to work to check. I check the 50% off section at the back of Safeway and other places. We only buy what is on sale. We forage for greens in the fields. I wish I could interest anybody in buying land and growing things together.

Take it easy, Dan. Thank you for sharing your life with us. There is a book I found helpful when my friend got cancer. Share The Care. How to arrange time so that no one gets burned out or depressed. I have no predictions except that we will be greatly challenged.

I’ve never bought a new car in my life. I had a Toyota Tacoma that I bought used and ran it up to 350k miles— and then I sold it. It’s still going-/ 😂 I see it now and then around town.
20
Sounds great. But I wouldn’t take the needle.
19
I volunteer at the food bank. More old people coming. They are in trouble already.
19
A big hug to you, Mark. I’m glad you are here. Your comment brought tears to my eyes.
19
I avoid restaurants and cafes. If friends invite me out, I find reasons not to join them.

In the Seattle area, there are official homeless camps - no drugs or alcohol allowed. Half of those people have jobs. He can join a 24 hour gym for $10 a month and take showers daily- when I lived in my van, this is what I did. When I wasn’t working or at a laundromat, I was at the library reading and researching and studying. There are senior share programs in some places- a senior shares their home in return for help with shopping, etc. They do background checks , of course.

I wish I had a relative like you.
18
I don’t tip because I don’t go anywhere 😂. I have a cup from the local cafe where my friends insist on going— I tell them I’ll meet them on the patio and I bring my own coffee in that cup. They assume I went inside to buy it. It’s one of those places that doesn’t use cash. So the hell with them. I went to 2 years of community college, then 2 years of state college to get a degree that no employer ever cared about. It would have been better to spend those years on various jobs and/or internships. If I had a do-over, I would have saved enough and bought remote land and started a homestead.
17
Lots of us lost careers because we wouldn’t take the needlecraft. I guess we’ll outlive the others. Maybe enough of us to start a parallel economy.
17
Glad you are still with us. 💪
17
We are thinking of offering a space by our cottage to a vehicle dweller. We could share the garden and kitchen, etc. maybe you can find some situation like that. I’m a van person myself. I’ve been saving money to get a piece of land to share with others like myself.
17
❤️❤️❤️👏 Glad to know you are on this train with us.
16
I had an elder friend who grew up on the GD. I learned a lot from his stories. His kids sold the land and the silver after he died, bought new trucks and big TVs. They didn’t learn anything from him. Sad. Best wishes to you , sir. Keep sharing your wisdom.
15
Yes. And the people I care about being damaged by the shots. 💔
15
School is a waste now.
15
Get a couple of German shepherds.

You aren’t doing her any favors letting her live off you at her age. If she is depressed, she needs counseling. If she needs more job skills, training is out there. You can get free training to become a cNA, for example. Charge her rent/utilities so she gets used to the facts of the costs of life. I know a guy in his 30s, still living at home and mommy does his laundry , pays his bills and cleans his room— no job. This will never change until his mom dies. Lots of others living this way. Next thing you know, she’ll have a baby and you will be raising it. My friend is in this situation— she will be caretaking for another 18 years— and maybe this little girl will get pregnant at 14 and keep it all going.
13
You should see the hundreds of wind turbines rusting away in California.
13
Back then, there were family farms. Not true now.
13
I know another case like that. She actually had all sorts of things delivered to her home, paid her utility bills, bought vacations for her family. The company didn’t press charges. And now that woman is working for seniors who have no idea she is a thief.
13
Here is something to consider. There may be violence done when people feel they have been cheated in business. Recent shooting of a real estate businessman north of Bellingham, Washington is one example.
13
People then had family farms to return to. Few family farms now.
13
I’ve been doing my best for years, living frugally, saving money. Then Covid— no work and I’m freelance. Then injured from a hit and run. Still plugging along. Lots of people went through their savings in the last two years. Mowing lawns barely pays the bills.
13
This is why we never leave a relative alone in the hospital. We take turns being there because we know the nurses are overworked. I’m actually learning as much as I can about patient care because the day might come that hospitals will not be available. I see a business opportunity for nurses- training people, being a patient advocate, starting an agency to do private work.
13
Seattle is already there.
12
Share a place. That’s the only way now. Or get a van.
11
I’m seeing a big change in the last month for lower-end houses. Price cuts. I wonder how many people have moved onto their boats.
11
Nor do I. This year is a homemade Christmas.
11
Glad for you. I never have shoes worth the cost or repair though. I guess wealthy people have better shoes worth the repair.
11
I look around all year to put aside things for gifts, I make things too.
10
@joelane7146 I bake everything my self from scratch after talking to someone who worked at a commercial bakery that supplied places like Costco. They put in chemicals to extend shelf life.
10
You did your best. That’s all anyone can do.
10
I watch everything on my phone.
10
Get out while you can. I left and have no regrets.
