Portland is hellish now.
10
I know lots of people who say they are too anxious- to drive, to hold down a job, etc. But someone else is paying their way.

Some celebrities have some knowledge and wisdom to impart. For instance, I stand behind Alec Baldwin- never in front of him. I learned that from him.
9
Look what they did to the Jan 6 protesters. They made examples of them.
9
People move into their vehicles and keep their stuff in storage.
9
Eventually, the pen is— no private cars.
9
I get it. I’m giving food and wine as gifts. And books on vegetable gardening ,canning and herbalism. Im using up my art supplies while I still have some.
9
I camp down the road from work to save the gas money of commuting an hour each way.
9
Van life is gonna be huge.

700,000 streaming across the border now.

We lived that way last winter and we are doing it again now. We only heat the kitchen and bathroom so the pipes don’t freeze. We drink hot tea all day too. We would buy a wood stove but it has to be a government approved one- terribly expensive. I enjoy going to work because the building is heated so well and there is always coffee available😄. We’re making all of our Christmas presents this year- I’m making wine and jam and Christmas puddings.

Same here.
8
Wow. Thanks for that.
8
I forgot that scene. 😂👍

Sell what you can. If you have a house, get a roommate. Or live in a van like me.
8
It was a bank holiday.
8
I was angry at any store that was stupid about showing vax cards. Masks didn’t bother me.
8
Hard to believe. I never paid more than $40 plus tip. And that was rare. I’ve been cutting my own hair for 2 years now.
8
So sorry for your sad loss. 💔
8
I just want to get a piece of land and share it with my friends who are in same circumstances.
8
Seattle is ruined. San Juan Islands. Whidbey. Bainbridge. Ruined. Might take a 9.2 to fix it.
8
They are lucky to have you. Cheap RV Living channel is selling hopium to the poor who are on limited income. It’s cheaper to just go car camping these days at National and State Forests.

There are senior home share organizations. This made gut help your situation if they do the background check, etc. you can also look into Air B and B- they take a small cut but they provide insurance and checking on people. In this way, a person only moves in for short stays. You can look into side hustles— think about your skills and knowledge. If you have land or you are in a tourist area, you can do Hip Camp ( it’s like Air bNB for camping). If you have a long driveway, you can host an RVer. There are lots of women living and traveling in RVs.

Have off grid land, paid off, solar power, well, cabin.
7
The future is stack and pack housing, no cars, 15 minute cities, public transport.
7
I give things to the local church because they don’t charge the poor for the items.
7
I see that too in Seattle area. Everyone planning their next long cruise.
7
Watch the White House correspondents dinner. They were laughing at us and the rising prices.
7
I would do it but only off the books.
7
We are not doing as well here. You are right.
7
A friend just sold his house but he’ll have to be two hours from work to afford another. Consider box van life for a while.
7
Kidnappings for ransom. Like in South America.
7
My friend’s husband had to quit. He got offered the job back eventually but he chose a different firehouse. The jabbed were always sick.
7
The injections will speed things up. By design.
7
You get an Amber Heard
7
Restaurants were over for us since lockdown and losing jobs. We will never go back to it. If I want to treat someone, I bake something for them.
7
I’m one of the Suicide- Hesitant. I apply for jobs but they require the poke. No to that.
7
One meal a day here. Soup or quiche with whatever I have.
7
At least you have a valuable skill.
7
Bless your loving heart. This brought tears to my eyes.

Look at jobs in Seattle area. I saw apartments in downtown for $1300 a month if you made 50k or less. Look on Craigslist to see other options. Consider living stealth in a box truck, no apartment. You can park for free in many areas or , like me, pay for a parking place at someone’s house. You join a nearby gym for $10 a month so you can take long hot showers. I spend time at the library too. I also have a friend in eastern WA for a place to camp on 40 acres. I store food and supplies out there too. I’m looking for my own piece of land for the security of having something paid off and low property taxes. If you get a job for 50k and don’t have to pay 2300 for rent, it can add up. Best wishes to you.

I know a family living secretly at the back of their store.
7
I used to think Canada was the perfect country to live. Well, the people are still great.
7
We can call the coins Dapper Dans😁
7
Wow. That’s sad for your daughter. I know several people living off their parents, not even helping around the property. They live online, in a dream world. You did the right thing to draw a boundary. It takes a greater love to close the open hand. Best regards.

Omg. So right. A person who I thought was a friend sent me a long nasty text but using my name in the third person. Then I realized she meant to send it to someone else. Poison is the right word. I blocked her number.
6
Yes, it feels worse because people are so unaware.

Look at Venezuela for an example. There is a good book, a collection of articles from The NY Times from that era. Groups of young people riding the rails, going anywhere to find work so as not to be a burden on their families. They were bony and ragged. A young couple spent all their savings to get to a town where they heard there was work- but there wasn’t any. They found an empty cabin in the woods and lay down to die , they were that hungry and weak. They were too proud to beg for food. They were found in time because someone saw the smoke coming from the chimney. My elderly friend was next to youngest in a large family. They lived out of an old car and moved farm to farm to work in the harvests. Even the children were working. He showed me a photo of them in their finest Sunday clothes, everyone cleaned up. The girls wore dresses and hair bows made from flour sacks. Only the father had shoes. Everyone was skinny. He had lots of stories. Some mothers went crazy and killed their children and themselves. From what I see here, people are having groceries stolen in the parking lot and sometimes purses. Gas gets stolen, mailboxes and cars broken into, cars stolen for parts. Seattle is truly lovely. I’ve been robbed more here than I ever was in nYC. I expect that to get worse.

Freeze the flour n a plastic bag for two days to kill any bugs.
