Real life Keanu is a very competent competition shooter. They could've easily played off those skills for the film rather than having him try to do fight scenes designed for a 20 year old man.

  9. Watchmen is kind of cheating on the movie directors and script writers part though, since it's basically a page for page adaption of the comic book. So thr ultimatr credit belongs to a comic book writer rather than the film makers.

Wasn't Shakespeare more of a "people's playwright" who tried a lot of comedy in his day, and even the dramas were intended to appeal to a wide audience? Shakespeare being considered "high culture" is more of a modern invention, by nerdy academics. Shakespearean dramas were pretty much "The Fifth Element" of their time. :P

  11.  @mcalvin6128  I'm gonna ignore both. Don't want to sully my memories of TNG. And frankly, I wasn't really pining for "moar Star Trek" after finishing Enterprise. Having watched it back to back from TOS through TNG, DS9 and Voyager. I can rewatch the older series for the nostalgia. But I don't feel that I need more. Especially not if it's mixed with SJW-nonsense and politically sanitized retconning.

  13. I've been enjoying myself with tracking down older films and shows that I haven't seen before. So much more rewarding than trying to catch the latest and not so greatest. Mostly because back then, professional writers made the scripts. As opposed to the glorified fanfiction that people produce today.

And they did other retarded shit like showing episodes out of sequence, switching around time slots for it, having it run just before football matches etc. The success of any show or film depends a lot on how the producing company or network promotes it. Some small fan groups on the internet circa 2002 can only do so much.

  21. An older and out of his element spy operative has been done pretty well in the video game Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Technically, Snake was showing signs of rapid aging due to progeria like symptoms on account of him being a clone rather than having been conceived the natural way, but the depiction of Snake in it was done really well, if albeit the game had way too long cut-scenes.

  24. Yeah. But I don't excuse modern day writers for their lack of military experience. I mean, I never served, and I still know more about the day to day activities of the armed forces than every hipster hollywood writer out there. If you're gonna write a damn movie script about a particular subject matter, it helps doing some actual research into it on beforehand. Or at the very least finding a military consultant and have them read your draft and tell you if they think the dialogue and military character decisions make sense or not. Most servicemen would be happy to tell you what's what, EVEN FOR FREE in some cases, because they grow tired of having to cringe during every movie they watch of the massive inaccuracies whenever the military is depicted. But those egomaniacal Hollywood primadonna writers apparently think asking other people with actual knowledge for input is somehow "beneath them". Wouldn't hurt the story if they exhibited some fucking humility every once in awhile, you know?

  25. Maybe writers should eat some humble pie and take some lessons from scientists. "Standing on the shoulders of giants" and all of that. If you're working on a franchise that is beloved by many already, you should feel priviliged to do so and treat the franchise and it's fans with respect. You didn't create the franchise after all. Someone else did. They did the heavy lifting. So your writing should not be about "following your own vision", it should be to try and emulate the vision of the original creator and expand upon it rather than taking away from it or replacing it.

  26. Clancy Brown is good with evil characters. I remember he alone was basically the only actor that made Pet Sematary 2 worth watching. The film is pretty bad overall, but "Gus" coming back to life as an undead psycho stepdad was fucking menacing and scary at times.

  29. Would've given this film a lot of extra points if they canned the English and had the characters speak the native tongue of the Comanche instead. One of the few things I really liked about Mel Gibsons Apocalypto. Very flawed movie, but I feel immersed as hell when characters speak the languages they are supposed to speak.

I think, that just by starting something fresh and original, you'll have a much better chance at attracting an audience, even if your original setting has to use a "woman of colour" as the protagonist, or ticking other PC boxed. Whereas retconning an already established setting will almost automatically garner an unfavorable reaction from it's long time fans.

But when you think about it, his failures in the Matrix are a result of his ignorance that the internal laws of physics in The Matrix can be skirted and even broken if you "unlearn what you have learned" so to speak. But after Neo does that, he ends up being the Mary-Sue of the group because his antics go way beyond of what any other human hacking into The Matrix can do, and not because he trained hard for it or earned it. He was simply born with it, unlike everybody else. My theory of why has always been as follows: as the architect explained in the second film (I think), there have been many Zions and many "The One's". But he didn't elaborate much. My theory is that when the machines continually breed humans over and over to use as power sources, sometimes a human is born with a genetic mutation in their brain that somehow allows them to hack the Matrix in ways that people without that mutation can't. I think that's what Neo is. Born with a rare brain mutation that grants him special abilities allowing him to hack the internal laws of physics of the matrix both faster and more extensive than other humans can. And the machines have spent many years trying to figure out what is causing these mutations and trying to eradicate them from the human genome. Hence why there has been multiple human uprisings in the machines power plants, multiple Zion's and multiple "The One's".

That's about the time I realized that these minorities were never interested in getting along or being treated as equals. Well, if these assholes decide to treat me as a monster without even bothering to learn anything about me as an individual, citing that my "whiteness" and "cishet privilige" makes me an oppressor. Then i'm more than happy to play the part of that monster which they hate and fear. At least being a monster, I maintain some integrity and self-respect. Because the only recourse offered by these people is that you unconditionally bend the knee and just accept their accusations of being a mean, white oppressor and apologizing for the rest of your life for being born white and heterosexual. To that I say: Fuck that shit. I'd rather have my self-respect and be hated by butthurt minorities than flushing my self-respect down the toilet to placate them in apology of something I didn't even do to them.   37.  @VoodooStyx  It's pretty obvious that it's forced, based on statements from directors and script writers, along with the practice of minority washing characters from the source materials (like books or games) turning white, heterosexual characters i to black or otherwise non-white, non-hetero characters obviously to pander to minority activist groups. See if they had practiced the minority representation 20 years ago, nobody would've batted an eye or read much into it. But because Hollywood has turned into a lefty, activist cesspool, we know exactly why they choose the race, gender and sexuality of characters.

A white author with mostly white friends and experiences with other white people will naturally draw upon his or her own experiences in life when creating a story. Meaning the choice of a mostly white cast will be a natural result of their own experiences. Your argument is about as dumb as saying that a black author featuring mostly a black cast of characters in his or her work of fiction is "black washing". Why is it that white people can't be allowed to write their own original stories, taking inspiration from the people in their lives, but has to be forced to be artificially "inlclusive", but for black authors it's perfectly fine to omit white characters altogether? If I write a story, you are not "entitled" to "representation" in it, becuase IT'S MY FUCKING STORY. I WROTE IT AND I AM IT'S GOD. If you don't like the story or it's "lack of representation", then nobody is forcing you to buy it. But do not presume that you as a non-author have any kind of moral or ethical say in how an actual author should write THEIR story..

  39.  @VoodooStyx  What's wrong with it, is the dumbass assumption that an audience can't watch a movie because they don't feel "represented" by it's characters, when the very point of fiction is fantasy rather than accurate representation of real people. Not a single white person in the world can claim to be "represented" by Thor, Spiderman or Superman, merely because these characters look white, because none of those fictional characters have background stories or abilities even remotely similar to any white person alive in the world today. And Blade was played by Wesley Snipes in the Blade films in the late 90's and early 2000's. By your SJW logic, i'm not "represented" in Blade because Blade is a black character and thus it is impossible for me to enjoy the film, which is clearly false since I consider the Blade films to be fucking awesome. "Representation in films" is a non-issue. And it damn sure should not be "remedied" by forcing writers and directors to change the skin colour or sexuality of any character just to make some activist minority with idiotic and unreasonable demands happy. If you want to see more "minorities represented in fiction", then write your own damn fiction rather than demanding that someone else CHANGE theirs..

Today, I get more excited when such reboots get shitcanned, so they can't sully my fond memories of the originals.a Nobody has the competence to write or direct a new Blade in this day and age.
