  2. Hitler, Stalin and other dicktators like them are not madmen. They are cold, calculating megalomanics who are paranoid of everyone around them and believe that everyone is out to get them. They also believe that they have all the answers to the problems of the country and, at least in the beginning, very convincing of their ideas and arguments.

  8. Hitler's response to Mannstein's strategy of pulling back, consolidating forces then attacking was not viable thinking. Using a conquered territories resources takes years and is not instant gratification like what Hitler wanted.

  9. Ironic how the Soviets adapted to the German strategy of blitzkrieg destroying whole German armies like the Germans did to the Soviet armies just a few years earlier and the German armies switching to the "hold at all costs and to the last man" strategy of the Soviet armies earlier in the war.

  12. The Germans were so narrow mindedly focused on achieving total victory on Stalingrad that the build up on either side went completely unnoticed. It amazes me that the Germans threw asside their masterful strategic doctrine of fast encirclement of enemy forces in order to destroy them and focus on using their forces for blunt force urban warfare tactics.

  13. The purpose of government is to provide goods and services to the public, regardless of cost, that the public can't otherwise build or afford. These services are paid for by taxes and as long as the public is willing to pay those taxes, the government will provide those services. The common misconception by people is that the government can create things out of thin air. The government can only provide those services at the will of the people willing to pay for them.

  14. If people are not willing to pay taxes, then riots can happen as in countries throughout history but in a modern democracy more likely those services will be cut back or eliminated.

  15. Don't knock the arts and social sciences. Most of these degrees are for teaching not working at Wally Mart. These teaching positions require a higher degree of education. Without teachers the arts and social sciences die just like any other profession would.

  16. "The Holocaust wasn't about race". To be fair, I think what Whoopi was referring to is that the Nazis weren't stuffing black people in the ovens. She's trying to define "race" as by color and not by ethnicity or other factors. Just saying... not defending. But, even that is messed up as the Nazis though anybody who wasn't Aryan was of an inferior race.

  24. How can you say the battle of Dubno-Brody was the biggest tank battle? There were 4200 tanks there as opposed to 6000 tanks in the battle of Kursk.
