The issue is that they haven't done anything real about wages, and they haven't done anything about giving people alternatives to fossil fuels. What should have happened 20-30 years ago is a ratcheting upwards on gas prices until nobody could afford it. Over time, the vehicles and the like that could use other fuels would be more attractive. Instead what's happened is that we've subsidized fossil fuels, and when the prices do go up enough to make a difference, demand drops, price drops and then people go back to using all that oil. Instead, there should have been a tax of some sort whenever the prices did drop like that to be used to fund efficiency improvements to get us off oil completely.

Right and if they manage to import some of the street fighters from Somalia, it could get incredibly bloody very quickly and you might see the tactics spreading throughout the network of organizations that are mobilizing against Israel. It's about time that Israel got cut off until such a time as they want to engage in good faith negotiations to end the bloodshed rather than purposefully encouraging the extremists to attack them.
5
@idbuyanewbmx One of the other reasons why we now have an all volunteer military is that it's a lot easier to get volunteers to kill people. When they were using conscripts, they had to go through a lot more work to get people to actually shoot at the enemy. It's still not easy for most people, but it's easier than when they were being forced to join.

Who stopped the republicans from taking up the issue months ago? They're the problem right now. The democrats failed to properly negotiate, but it's because of the republicans that the benefits expired with no plan in place.
4
@randysmith9841 And if you're saying this generation, then you're full of crap. You benefitted from tuition that was subsidized to a much greater degree than what it is now. Back in the '80s it was still possible to pay for college by working a summer job. By the time I first attended college in the late '90s it had gotten to the point where a 4 year degree cost per year, what a 2 year degree does now. Not to mention that books quadrupled in price since the '80s. The underlying costs do need to be addressed, but blaming the students for it is rather ridiculous. There have been multiple life changing economic events over that time frame.

What else did you expect him to do? The candidates that lose always support the winner. The issue here is that he's continued to support the corrupt DNC in the years since and there has been no meaningful change to reform the party. The party is still interfering in primaries and pushing candidates that don't support what the people want.
4
Honestly, I doubt it was always secure, they're more likely just lying about that.
4
@KM-oi9ks Thanks to that Hillary rigged primary fiasco, I"m no longer a Democrat. If they won't let the voters make the decision, they should change their name.
4
I'm pretty sure that the Israelis have it.
4
@MedicalAutonomyProject That's not an accurate description of the Canadian health care system. These things happen everywhere, except that in the US, you'd likely also be out of pocket for the follow up care unless you could afford a good lawyer to go after them for the damages.
4
@Nuttymike That happens in every system everywhere and as you're implying, it's not a valid excuse for the US system being better. It's the best if you've got the money to pay for the best, for the rest of us, it can be deeply problematic.
4
@derekchauvin8426 Not necessarily, the Russians have already stated that they don't consider these volunteers to have rights under the Geneva Convention, so, surrender may well be only slightly better than trying to fight. Just look at what the US did to those prisoners in GITMO. I"d caution against taking any of this too seriously when you've got such substantial propaganda efforts on both sides. This may well be true, but it could also be a matter of Russian propaganda as well. But, it wouldn't surprise me if foreign troops were being sent on high risk missions with very little support.
4
@ennesshay5040 With the expansions of NATO into Eastern Europe and the previous annexation of Crimea by Russia, we really shouldn't be surprised by the fact that they went through with it. I'm not sure what the correct move would have been, but anybody that didn't think the Russians would invade were foolish.
4
It's been over 15 years since the Israelis murdered Rachel Corrie, and nobody has even been put on trial for murder. The Israelis have no credibility when they can't police their own. The sooner the US stops backing their crimes against humanity the sooner it stops. It was one of the hugest mistakes of all time to let those nutters become a nuclear power.
4
This is a large part of why I didn't vote for him.
4
Are we really surprised? He outlefted Hillary as well. It's probably time to get some party clothes and hold a wake for the DNC.
4
@BillAngler Same goes for the Israelis. The problem in both cases is the people running the governments. And whereas the PA is essentially already subject to legally enforced BDS, it's about time that the Israelis were also subjected to BDS until neither government has the means to wage war against the other and the people finally get the peace they deserve.
4
I refuse to vote for Jayapal, she's such a fraud.
4
But, she's a woman, what more can they do? If they did anything more, they might actually have a shot at winning the election.
4
You were fortunate enough not to get any of the other strains. I got the OG covid 19, and I was extremely sick and nearly needed to be put on oxygen. Which is to say, a mild case. I'm lucky to not have any kidney or heart damage and I've probably got holed in my lungs.
4
She lost her series because she came out and then every episode after that was based on her being a lesbian. Had she kept doing the same show with the occasional episode about weird things happening when people find out you're gay, it might have lasted. But, there was really too much focus on that after she came out.
3
@lifethrowsyoulemons Probably not, Hamas needs the hostages for the same reason that they took them in the first place. Has it not occurred to you that perhaps they are telling the truth? At any rate, the truth, no matter what it is will emerge eventually.
3
@gregorsamsa1364 Yes, but you do have the option of just sending the ticket back with the payment. Seattle is becoming a world class S-hole city because we let people ride the bus for free because we have non-law-enforcement officers approaching people and we give several opportunities to understand what's happening before we issue tickets, but we don't necessarily get the right name from people caught not paying, so nobody knows how many warnings they've got. The result being that basically somewhere around 40% of the people that use the light rail actually pay.
3
@felixsmith460 That's the only thing that works against blackmailers. You can't just pay and trust that they'll not ask for more or do it anyways.
3
@lloydbraun6026 Just watch us stop working and see how long you last without food. Most of the work being done isn't essential and people won't die if there's not a movie in the theater or they can't buy beauty products. But, good luck living without food, water or medical care.
3
Same here. I'm not really independent though, I'm specifically 3rd party, any party, where available and challenger when there's no 3rd party to vote for.
3
@thorondor4012 same goes for Jayapal. Fake progressive.
3
@yagballs676 Because there are some jobs out there that require degrees and pay well enough to pay the loans. There just aren't enough of them to go around.
3
And yet, the domestic terrorists are usually right-wing rather than left. That's not to say that there are no left-wing jerks that would do that, but it's dishonest to suggest tray the left is unique in this regard.
3
durangojim not that many, under this scenario it's probably just enough to snatch a few senators. Hang one of them in public or put a couple heads on pikes in the capital mall and things will change quickly.
3
I’m frustrated that it's not more common for people to support the people, and decry both sets of governments.
3
But, that would make sense and actually cause a positive change for somebody.
3
Except that there's been an ongoing process of devolving Scotland for many years at this point. It would be more like China saying to Northern Ireland that they really ought to be with the rest of Ireland. or the UK that you should really own Ireland. Although that's not perfect as there is a recognized status in all those cases that people can agree on.
3
Just? That didn't happen when they rigged the primary in favor of Biden or when they let Trump promise checks to individuals before any of the Dems?
3
She won't have a vote for M4A because she knows it's going to pass and that they won't be able to take it back.
3
@malvane8061 When I was a kid, I thought I'd be one of the first to sign up if the country was ever attacked. But, when it was attacked, it was quite clear that getting killed in that campaign would have been completely meaningless. Joining up would have been only marginally better than being one of the Nazi soldiers. I saw the propaganda and the lies that were being used to justify the invasion, and that was not my war for not my President. The crimes against humanity that were subsequently revealed just underscored the point. Abu Ghraib, GITMO, not to mention the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis due to the failure of the military to even bother trying to protect the local population or have a plan in place to do so. Only the naive think that the military is some sort of a good thing, the rest of us know that they're neutral at best, and blood thirsty cowards at worst.
3
The issue here is that it definitely can be a problem, but that's mostly the more extreme versions that are more of an anorexia thing than a fasting thing. Everybody fasts every day, the relevant question is how long is optimal. The only way not to fast would be to engage in polyphasic sleep and insist on eating during each period of waking. That being said, humans evolved to fast, just like most other animals, meals weren't as easily obtained as they are today, and being able to go potentially weeks without eating was essential. I wouldn't personally recommend going that long, but people can go a lot longer without a meal than the medical community is willing to acknowledge and intermittent fasting is less damaging than the typical calorie restriction diets that get pushed.
3
Eh, I voted for Hawkins, but sadly there's many morons out there that think that Biden would be an improvement over Trump.
3
What do Harvard graduates do other than steal from the rest of us? The Wall Street geniuses were mostly educated at Harvard.
3
Not really, dictionaries get revised regularly, digital or not. Revising Mark Twain to rename that character to N-Word Jim or deleting all copies of 1984 are better reasons to get physical copies.
3
Absolutely, both situations can be fixed, it's just that the people who make the decisions don't want to. It never ceases to amaze me that the same people that are so hot on sending in military personnel are so cold to the notion of paying to clean up the mess afterwards.
3
@toobnoobify Those tickets help them to assess the relative risk of various drivers. If they aren't being ticketed, they won't be able to apportion the risk to them until there's an actual crash. But, since the number of crashes will probably be about the same, or possibly worse, that means that more responsible drivers will wind up paying for it. Locally, the state insurance commissioner decided that credit scores shouldn't be used, which means that people that are less likely to have crashes are now having to pay more money for those that aren't as capable of behaving responsibly and may have more of a reason to engage in insurance fraud for financial reasons.
3
@DUCKSAREEVILLLLLLLL And when that body is capable of living without the mother, then we'll talk. Whether or not a fetus has it's own DNA isn't relevant to the fact that there is a required mother involved that may not have consented to any of it. The situation sucks, but there's not many ways of resolving the issue.
3
Professors don't make very much money at most colleges. The funds from tuition mostly go to facilities and administrative costs.I do think that a step in the right direction would be to discontinue federally guaranteed loans to schools that don't spend at least 90% of the money they collect from students on academic activities.
3
Which is unfortunate as you cannot exercise enough to make meaningful progress losing weight. The exercise portion is for the purpose of maintaining muscle mass. It's the reduction in calories that ultimately results in the weight loss, but there's some pretty definitive research going back to the '40s that points out that you can't just cut 10% of your calories from each meal and expect to lose weight, your body will literally start starving the brain to keep that from happening.
3
@n4ughty_knight That's not really true, if you control for the improvements in childhood mortality and the women dying during childbirth, there hasn't been that much change in life span of humans in millennia. The main reason why life expectancy has been going up is simply that fewer people are dying in childhood or what are now preventable diseases and fewer people are starving due to a lack of food.
3
Term limits don't do anything if they're still beholden to the money.
3
If they'd actually bother doing something for the voters, that might be different.
3
Exactly, this kind of shenanigans is why I'm no longer a member of the party.
3
That was the same deal for my dad. He grew up in rural Wisconsin and the Marines were his ticket off the farm and into a better life. It's also why he made damn sure to have the funds to ensure that I wouldn't be in a position to need to take the same deal. My parents gave me money for college, what wasn't covered by grant money, on the condition that I not enlist. This was right before 9/11, so I guess it was a slight possibility. Post 9/11 it would have been completely off the table as it was obvious pretty quickly that we weren't the good guys, there were no good guys. There were the terrorists targeting innocent civilians and the war criminals targeting innocent civilians.
