- People: “Why do people love One Piece?” - Jared (only a fraction into the story): “Let me tell you EXACTLY why using philosophy” - Me: “This man gets it”

Check out Understanding Analysis by Abott. I studied math and philosophy and found this book to be a really nice intersection

In reality, it is another fallacy to focus on a statement that is clearly an accidental error that clearly is something else. Everyone knows it was Armstrong, not Nixon, who walked on the moon and that you meant to say that but misspoke. For your debate opponent to redirect and focus their attack on you for stating "a falsehood" is a technique that I often encounter.

@_jared Only those who do nothing make never a mistake. Carry on & keep good faith in the new year! Greetings from a fellow philosopher in Hungary.

You draw from me each ‘like’ I make on your post's. It's not forced and I feel it should be so.

We don't have to focus on everything. We just need to focus on a few things. Scrolling and skimming isn't inherently bad, but if that's ALL we do, then of course it's bad. We just have to find what we are most passionate about, and after we find it, we can focus on it. I'm much more likely to read a book about something I'm really passionate about.

Dear Jared, thank you so much for bringing comfort and knowledge 🙏🏻

I just finished the Wheel of Time series based almost entirely on the recommendation in this video... I started it shortly after the video dropped so it took me a little offer a year to read them all. I agree fully with Jared's assessment. I'll be reading more of these books. Btw... Bella has got to be the most bad ass horse in any book series.

In your video you said that you were inly gonna ask us to subsceibe to your substack just once in a video like this. Do not ask just once! By consistently providing us with deep and meaningful content, you've earned the right to ask for support and you have earned the right to ask more than once. Keep the courage. Move forward unashamed. Enjoy your adventure.

Just gave! One thing about academia: you are rarely laid off after you earn tenure. But you'll get a new job soon and everything will turn around. I have faith in you.

Dude it took me very long for One Piece to click with me in an almost philosophical level, but you are already there when you have just recently become a new reader and nakama, Respect,. I've watched a lot of your videos but this one just recently appeared on my feed.

Timely, well thought out vid amidst the “CHAOS” you aptly described. A welcome reminder and today @ work, I’ll be thinking about how I can have a better relationship w/ tech. Thanks

Recently discovered your channel and really enjoy it. Especially the point about building the “muscle” of reading. Was making me think of how overtraining applies as well. I’m getting back into regular reading after a few years of very little reading - after I finished my PhD (reading like 1000 pages a week for years) I just couldn’t get my mind to re-engage in books unless it was for work. I was still learning things in that time in but in different formats. I’ve just started to enjoy it again in the last 6 months or so. As much as I was frustratED, looking back I needed that rest from prolonged over-engagement. Thinking about rebuilding my reading as retraining an atrophied skill is quite helpful!

Thank you for sharing! You inspired me to try and keep a journal on books I read. Can't wait to start! Oh, happy new year...

Love that a non-anime content creator such as yourself has been drawn to this story so strongly that you made a video. The new fans and followers the live action has brought to this community has been a surprising and incredibly exciting outcome of this release. I've loved One Piece and read it for decades. I'm so happy to find a community of like minded folks who get so much meaning from this story.
