  5. The chains you see at the cams do not go to the crankshaft, but to a intermediate pulley. So the chance of the crank b jumping is minimal. One of the camshaft is probably out or the cam is damaged. Occasionally the relucter wheel can get damaged or spin on the cam. Pull the valve cover off and get the motor to tdc and confirm the timing. You should have 12 pin between the marks on the camshaft. It's not unusual for one to be off and the Chrysler computer not set a correlation code. Double check with all data on the pin count, it's mentioned in the repair procedure for the timing chains. I'm not a Chrysler tech but I've done plenty of work on these motors including all the timing chains

  13. Or at the very least, do what the old school hot rodders would do, pick some road in the middle of nowhere with nobody on it to have your fun. Don't do it on busy roads where you can kill somebody other than yourself!

  15. I had a customer with a Vortec V6 in a Hyster forklift that spun a bearing worse than this. I recommended doing a crank kit at min but he wanted to try cleaning it up first. I cleaned the crank, threw new bearings in it and cringed as I turned the key for the first time. It ran perfectly, every oil change I checked for any signs of problems and never found anything. 5 years later and 4000+ hours it's still running. I've done some sketchy stuff on my own vehicles knowing there's a minimal chance it'll work much less last and sometimes you get lucky.

  18. I'm just an older woman who grew up in the days when women were actually discouraged from knowing anything mechanical. I watch to learn something (and I always do) and because Ray always puts a smile on my face. I can now sound like I know something when I deal with mechanics and shop managers. I do know I get more respect now when I can speak mechanic language. And I do know more about my car and now can get under the hood, check various fluids, and case out connections and look for leaks. I have yet to get under the car and at my age I don't think that is going to happen. But, you never know!!

  27. Ray, technically, you're not double-dipping. Why? Because each job -- the transmission flush and the brake flush -- have a certain amount of book hours. If you get both jobs done at the same time, that's you being efficient at your job, and therefore you should be rewarded. It also serves nobody for you to essentially give away your services for free, which you would do if you only charged for one of them, but did not charge for the other. And in case you need the best case convincing, just remember: You, the Wife Unit, and the Offspring Units all need to eat. So you charge for both services.

  34. Reeeeeeeee 😂 move the A pillar trim and check on the state of those drain hoses before you parts-cannon a sunroof or seals. A quick Google suggests Jeep drain hoses are two piece daftness, similar to those my Hot-tub-Tiguan. Daft adapter at the roof drain hole just went brittle and stopped sealing to the main hose. Dumped that amount of water down behind my dash and behind the carpet underlay. Filled from the floor upwards with no real evidence of a leak. Nightmare to diagnose, but very much worth a check before you go down anymore complex/costly route.

  44. Don't worry buddy, us dealer techs still do it the manual way. The "engineering" way of diagnosing 9/10 turns into a rabbit hole with a bunch of special tools/equipment and scopes, when all you really needed to do was test for power and ground even on the new cars.

  48. On the shifter, it’s a B&M Ratchet shifter. “Ratchet” it up to Neutral and then lift UP on the shifter and move towards Reverse and Park.

  50. We always used a coating of Vaseline on battery terminals. Never had corrosion problems after that. Still remember batteries that had to be checked weekly and filled with distilled water as required!
