Interesting! So this means to refer to the English as “Anglo-Saxon” is pretty inaccurate. Only 10-40% of their DNA is Anglo Saxon, the majority of their DNA is Celtic Ancient Briton. This makes sense. The idea that the Anglo Saxons somehow killed or drove out the entire local population after the Romans left without leaving any archeological trace has always seemed far-fetched! But there is also a theory that some of that “Anglo-Saxon” DNA derives from people who were already in England when the Romans arrived. The “Saxon Shore” to which the Romans referred has always been assumed to mean the coast on which “Saxon” newcomers arrived. But it could equally mean the shore already inhabited by Saxons at the time the Romans invaded. Steven Oppenheimer discusses this in “The Origins of the British”, and Simon Jenkins mentions it in his book “The Celts” as well.

I am a Spaniard with Scottish ancestors from my mother's side. My grandmother had the Gordon surname, from Embo, Scotland. I am proud of my Scottish heritage!

I was born in Scotland with my mother being from Yorvik ancestry going back 700 years. On my Fathers side he is English/ Scottish and part Norwegian on his father’s side. I found this video illuminating thank you brother. 😎💪🏴🇳🇴

Another explanation for the concentration of North African genetic signals clustering in the north of Iberia is that they predate the Islamic Expansion. Iberomaurusian people were migrating to Iberia from North Africa since prehistory.

The Celt influence is still very much palpable in north of Portugal. We are proud of that origin. I wish we could find more about these far ancestors.

I really thought of the island as the other banshee. In my mind, the only “survivor” who seems to actually prosper and move forward is the sister who got off the island. Even those left alive on the island are no longer flourishing but more like the walking dead. This film just gets better and better the more we talk about it! Thanks!

My mom did a dna test and it came back Scotland, Ireland, and what is modern day Afghanistan. It confused us but I think you just answered how that was possible 😀

I’m a Scottish American. I have some English and Irish as well, but most of my family is Scottish in origin. 🏴🇺🇸

I'm not convinced that the Hallstatt culture were "THE" proto-Celts. I'm more in favour of the Celts originating as a common linguistic and cultural area of the Bell Beaker peoples. The linguistic models of the divergence of many Celtic languages from Proto-Celtic are simply irreconcilable with the Hallstatt theory.

Clans MacGregor, Stewart, Bruce, and Campbell here.🏴 Thanks for making such high-quality and informative videos about Scotland. I can’t get enough.

Redhead girls are so gorgeous and Red Head characters in fiction always look cool.

Rarer things are more precious, so i'm glad I have bluey green eyes.

I’m a 1st generation Australian of Scottish descent.I always knew I was descended from Scottish ancestors but when I did a DNA test it came back that I also had Norwegian DNA.I was contacted through ancestry by 3 second cousins from Scotland who helped me with our common ancestral lineage and it turns out my ancestors had come from the Orkney islands. In particular the island of Westray.I reckon it’s a fair bet that’s where my Norwegian DNA probably comes from.

4:55 The North vs. South genetic division is also perceptible by the linguistic division: French to the North of the Loire vs. Occitan to the South.
36
Ireland had a clan system too although not as feudal as the scottish system.

Its possible that the Picts were a 'para-celtic' people, representing decedents of the indo-european bell-beaker culture who were a sister branch of the later Celts, Germans and Italic peoples that entered Britain in the second millennium BC. The strange thing is, is that we find languages similar to celtic ones in areas long before the Hallstatt culture spread westward, such as the Ligurians, Lusitanians and possibly the Tartessians, or that perhaps the Picts were a unique sub-branch of the Celtic language family apart from Brythonic and Gaelic. The evolution of the Celtic languages away from proto-Celtic is poorly understood so plenty of room for a Pictish language.

As a Swedish Irish and Scottish blooded American it is funny as hell to hear people butcher my Swedish last name🤣

My folks came from all over Britain, and Ireland to a lesser extent, with a bit of German from one of my grandmothers. I ended up with gray eyes, with blue and green flecks, so depending on the light conditions, they could look somewhat more like any of the three. I got pulled over by the police one time. On my driver's license, gray eyes are listed. The cop looked at me and said, "You're eyes look green to me", and then started harassing me because he thought I was somehow faking my identity, lol.

My Clan were one of the Gallowglass Clans who went to Ireland at the behest of the Irish Kings in order to fight the Norman Invasion. The Gallowglass themselves a mix of Gael and Norse peoples from Scotland.

I think they were tall, based on Viking burial site excavations. They always claim that they're grandparents were dark, etc., but BS. They are generally tall, blonde, good looking, and should just accept that they are good looking and have a great history. They are very accepting and progressive today, which is likely part of why they're happy people. I've always admired my Germanic friends' culture.
33
Just watched the film. I really enjoyed it. I did notice that Gleason’s character was unusually preoccupied with death and destruction. But he had moments of kindness. Farrell was outstanding and really portrayed a man losing his sense of belonging in the world and succumbing to the banshee’s corrupting influence. This video made me aware of the movie and helped me understand it.
33
The lack of light makes a lot of sense for this.
33
As an English person I can assure all critics that his accent is normal and his diction perfect.

It is noteworthy that the samples of Malta MA1 on the graph of the main components are located close to the Udmurts, a little stretched to Mansi. And also the Tocharians were just ANE, or ANE + Paleo-Siberian. So the redhead is probably really from the Paleolithic.
33
I saw a young Polynesian man who worked for McDonald's , with the most stunning Grey eyes , he looked like a wolf , a rare dude indeed
33
Fantastic description of this Celtic tribe that few know of today. Your best work yet. Keep up the great work.

Dad was 100% Finnish w green eyes. Mom was mixed Brit Isles and sort of Belorussian, (and a tiny bit of Finnish too, surprise!) her eyes were blue green, which could flash green if she was speaking with intensity lol. Mine are just gray. Sensitive to light, more as I grow older. 🙂

I've always heard that Lisbon (Olissipo) was founded by Ulisses. Funny that we have some regions called "Beira" here, but i'm pretty sure it's just coincidence.
