  3. I’m an American with a mixture of ancestry from all over Europe. I knew I had a bit of Swedish ancestry, but the coolest part is being of mitochondrial haplogroup V, which is fairly common amongst the Saami!

  4. That is actually not true about Cheddar Mans skin colouring. The leading genetist on the programme said that the dna extracted was not suficient to determine skin colour and the decision to go for the darkest possible was not actualy backed up by facts, it was more political. Much like the recent book on the 7th century King Offa of Mercia that claims he was a black African, and the recent film and books depicting King George III wife Queen Charlotte also as a black African. Let alone the new Netflix dicumentary of Cleopatra also as a black African which the Egyption Government is actually sueing Netflix over.

  10. I am a rufus. For some reason I have a hair color that is partially red partially blond & partially brown. I am naturally fair skinned but don't freckle much. I tan like a blond. I am actually very tolerant of pain & am easily anesthetized. Because I am partially blond I will watch your blond video. I attribute the reddish portion of my hair to Franks & Picts.

  12. I am one of few descended from the Picts and presentations like this are rare and much appreciated. Archaeologists have uncovered foundations of roundhouses atop Kelman Hill in Aberdeenshire. That name has been passed down to me with the ujsual spelling variation. I am proud of my Scottish roots and that the Picts were Scots before the Scots were Scots :)

  13. Nice video. Thomas Jefferson is my cousin. My 7th great grandmother Mary Jefferson Nichols was his aunt. I am an American mutt and have ancestors from most European countries. My Ydna is R1b-L1335 S764 744 which is West Highland Gael. I am also a Stewart and Plantagenet decendant via the Dukes of Douglas-Hamilton Clan thru my Earls of Lumley ancestors whi came go Nova Scotia in the 1730s. I also decend from 12 of 51 Mayflower passengers. My dad mom is a Macdonald and Macloed decendant from the Isle of Skye. That ancestor came to America during the clearances and was a Revolutionary War Patriot. I also have two Scottish ancestors who were Scottish prisoners of war from the battle of Dunbar in 1650 who were sent to Massachusetts bay colony as indentured servants: Phillip McIntyre and Malcolm MacCallum.

  19. I have green-blue-grey eyes. My eye color is usually "influenced" by the color of the shirt that i'm wearing. Almost all of my ancestors from both of my family are of English descent, with some Scottish and Dutch thrown in the mix. My maternal grandfather's family came down to New Hampshire from Quebec to work in the mills there in the mid-1800s, so there may be some French too.

  20. The Bell Beaker Culture (BBC) is derived from the Corded Ware Culture (CWC), via CWC's most westerly offshoot, the Single Grave Culture (SGC). However, CWC is not derived form Yamnaya, rather Yamnaya and CWC both derive from Sredny Stog II. They were brothers, rather than father and son, so to speak. Sredny Stog II is almost certainly the IE urheimat.

  21. The Norse-Gaels were some really cool and badass cultural synthesis. The Norse and the Gaels were a convergence of cultures and gentetics which themselves by and large had diverged from common cultural and genetic roots. So were the Norse-Gaels in some sense a throwback to earlier Indo-European/Hunter-Gatherer/Anatolian Farmer, etc., stocks? For certain this has happened many times in human history, but the Norse-Gael are one case that stands out to me. For certain there was warfare and enmity between the two, but at some point they began to accept, appreciate, and even admire each other. Rather than one canceling out the other, they in some sense amplified one another. More Gaelic than the Irish, more Vikingr than the Norwegians.

  25. My great-grandfather came from Scotland to the US in the 1880's and I have six brothers with the surname Turnbull. My father was very proud of being of Scottish descent. My mom's ancestors were Northern Irish Protestant and Welsh. I found a shirt on the internet that says, "Clan Turnbull - wreaking havoc since the Middle Ages." My dad didn't begin any argument, but he'd certainly end one."

  28. Our family paternal ancestry come from Burgos or Castilla y Leon, although our family grave is in Galicia. Heavy Celtic influence in the region. We play bagpipes, dance and march in Scottish festivals. There are some wonderful videos here on YT showing Celtic kinship with the island peoples to the North of Iberia. Histories tell of fleets of Spanish fishing vessels in Dublin over the centuries. We also believe that our ancestors visited North America as fishermen many hundreds of years before the Vikings or Columbus. After all which fisherman will tell of their best spots ? The history of earning a living from the sea is older than the age of European exploration where any mission featured large numbers of North Iberian peoples especially Basques.

  30. The Vikings reached Sicily relatively early in their heyday, 860. It was their practice to bring back booty which included black and brown haired, brown eyed women. So there’s no mystery as to why Scandinavians aren’t 100% blue eyed with blond hair.

This one on the Bruce clan was fascinating, especially as my neighbour is an Aussie whose family tree has been found to go back to Robert the Bruce! What interesting worlds open up to us. I have stayed in an English bnb that my ancestors were in on census night in 1841. It became a bnb the week before. P.W Australia

  36. I am Russian, my wife is Norwegian from western Norway. We got 3 sons. After taking their dna it seems they all got some Irish and Scottish dna even tho we have no family from those places as far as we know. On the other hand could just be myheritage thing. Not the most reliable test

  37. In Germanic Europe where you see a place name that begins with Wal- or Val-, it derives from a Proto-Germanic word that means foreigner, and the foreigners in question were Celts. Switzerland’s western canton of Valais is an example.

  42. Ever since childhood I was told that my eyes are yellow like a lions eyes… but maybe they are in fact hazel? Looking very closely they are a pale green in the background with golden/amber specks fanning out from the pupil. The iris has a teal coloured ring around it. I never saw anybody else with my eyecolour. My father had pale green/grey eyes, my mother hazel. Interesting story my father told: hush-hush tales of “a spanish soldier and a girl in the family” in 1808 or so.. the wars with Napoleon. I have no evidense, but my fathers mother had dark brown eyes an jet black hair, and more family members with very dark eyes and hair. I am from Denmark where blue eyes are the most common.   44. Super interesting. Did early Celtic (Irish) have black hair and light eyes? I heard that that was common for pure blooded celts. Also my dad's from Greece and he said the Norther Greeks have a lot of blond hair and blue eyes because of the Viking attacks in the past.

  46. I had a discussion a few months ago with a Russian friend of mine about the Udmurt people, and he was saying that in Russia, the stereotype is for red-heads to be Jewish. Yet the Udmorts are anything but Jewish, mostly Orthodox, some other Christian denominations or Muslim. So they are a very notable exception to that Russian stereotype. You see, there was a Russian girl on our tennis team with gorgeous waist-length red hair that I was curious about... but it turns out she has a Muslim father from the Caucasus region, so not Jewish and not Udmort. I was also reading at the time the story "The Desert Lich" by Frank Belknap Long, where one of the characters is a Central Asian (presumably somewhere in central Russia) Muslim man with red hair. So while my friend insists red-heads in Russia are mostly Jewish, I had several examples to hand suggesting otherwise. But, you know, stereotypes... hard to shake them once you get them in your head.

  48. You must remember, in Scandinavia arable land was scarce. For centuries they were fighting amongst them selves over access to land? Thats a form of positive genetics, in that the weaker types are removed, and the stronger more fearsome and robust pass on their genes. The weak are thus weeded out. Add to that, these people passed on land to the strongest most capable son, not the oldest? Hence the best had the land to attract a women, and pass on his better genes. This is how over thousands of years they became bigger, and developed a martial way of life. It became a Warriors society. They are still taller and fairer then us. In 2006 me and my mate were on Holiday in Tenerife. In a complex that was all Scandinavian people. Im 6ft tall, and most the women were my height. Most the men were well over 6ft 3. Some looked about 6ft 8. Most the wee kids i saw had platinum hair. Fine people. Good natured i liked them. The women were very attractive.

Britannia was already holding down more Roman military manpower than any other province. A Hessian warrior (or proto-Hessian/Chatti) who found his way to Scotland, fought in the wars against the Danes/Norwegians and killed their general named Camus, in the battle of Barrie. For this, the King of Scots dripped his fingers in the bloody body and drew them down the Hessian's shield - From that day, he was known as the Camus Slayer and given the lands at Keith, whence he and his kin took their name. To this day, they say the stripes on the Keith coat of arms are there to remind us of our brave and mighty ancestor.
