In this video you tell us that the armies' speed was between 5 and 10 miles per day, and, since I'm not from the US, I had to search afterwards how much was this in kilometers. Thanks in advance.

Hey great to see a new video from you! can you talk a bit more about the idea of universal empire, i remember it from some talks about the Mexica empire in reference of the spanish reasons for conquest, that their empire would be THE EMPIRE before the end times. I know this has monoteistic and apocaliptic fundations in the case of the spanish and it would be nice to hear what you, who is studing empires, know. also, will you eventually do a 'what have we learn up to this point' tipe video? also also, have you considered doing an african, american or indian empire? one last thing, maybe you could lean a bit more on the history of the people than the history of the ruler, rebember that when Mike Duncan reflected on his regrets while doing The history of rome; one of the all time greats history podcast; he said that one of them was turning the history of rome into the history of the roman emperors. paraphrasing, of course ;d have a great one

  27. These videos are so Good! Do you plan on covering the reign of Otto the Great and that of his later successors? I think despite the fact that he was not a paternal descendant of Charles he still is the figure I would say is worthy of being considered his true heir in many ways. From his victory over the Magyars at Lechfield which secured him the title as savior of Latin Christianity to his conquest of a unruly Italian king. Either way I look forward to your next video they really are great watches.

  33. Great up-date on Caracalla! Myself as a Roman reenactor, I call him “Kar-A-Kel-La”. All “C” in Latin is always a “K” sound. Like in CAKE, Candy. The soft C cones around the year 1000 as in church Latin. In his coins, you see a young boy, teenager and when joint Emperor in 210 (age 24), you start seeing the Frowning man. Coins in his last 3 years, he looks like trying to go to the bathroom but blocked up ! He likes the scary look a senator claimed.

  47. Possibly the most tragic pair of deaths in the whole of the Middle Ages, those two. An eerie bit of foreshadowing, considering that the future struggle between the Guelf and Ghibelline. One is left wondering just how different things could have been if Pope and Emperor had pursued a more close working relationship, for the good of all Christendom.
