  3. I didn't know that Viking was a title separate from just the average Norse people. This changes how I think about the culture fundamentally. I would be interested in knowing more about that distinction, and what the common folk thought about them.

  17. A very well-made video! I have now watched it four times already, these four days. I like it how you present the varying view points made based on how sparse the evidence is, that leaves room for much legitimate speculation of highly differing viewpoints. I myself am however biased due to my Swedish descent to lean towards the, here in this video, presented scale end of there indeed being a Norman influence. This because it is a source of pride. Very human indeed. I still can take joy in the great deeds of neighboring peoples such as the Slavs, that also does have a rich, interesting, glorious history as our own in many respects. That our histories are intertwined through the centuries, and even millennia, is something we are together exploring. On the road to knowledge, every view point is valid for consideration. Over time, more and more evidence is being unearthed. These waters are however highly politicized, and therefore muddied by these biases. Something we all have to keep in mind. Being watchful for science, remaining untainted from the sort of corruption that always want to enter there from political influences.

  22. "The Oera Linda" is very pertinent to the subject. One very interesting passage in the book explains that a natural straight used to exist from the Mediterranean into the Red Sea. This would have opened the trade route up to all of Southern Asia. According to the text, it collapsed with the earthquake of 1600bc that accompanied the eruption of Thera. Once that straight was closed, trade colonies in the East were cut off from their Mediterranean route, which would have been a major catastrophe for a maritime trading culture.

  31. I always find it funny that territories inhabited by Slavs (Wends) in eastern Germany have almost the same borders as DDR. Even germanised slavs could not escape the terrible and destructive grip of communism.   32. I used to think that Gods and Angels were far from concrete. As in, unlike the Greek gods which are immortal beings but still touchable and even being able to be harmed. Milton's vision seem to give them some form of physicality. As in, God can be harmed by a weapon, and even defeated. The very same person who made the world. Uh. I wonder if he thought this through.

  44. Odin was said to own a ship he could fold in his pocket. I've always wondered if it meant he had large canoes covered with hides. When the river became impracticable, he would just remove the hides, take them over the portage, cut new trees to make the canoe's skeleton, fit the hide on them and continue their travel.
