  7. As someone who works with dozens of channels, I saw this trend happening early last year. I had a client go through exactly the same situation where a Short went viral and it brought in so many low-quality subscribers that it took months to recover regular views. I've advised clients to create SHORT channels as beta tests for a long tail strategy to avoid hurting their channels more by mixing both. With that, even with that strategy channels are significantly dropping because all the attention is being driven to the format thus taking away audiences to long-form.

  14. I wish you'd gone into a little more detail on the ethical issues, especially their union busting and the #AppleToo movement that happened recently. The product elements are definitely an issue, don't get me wrong, but Apple prides itself on its image and its ideals. Looking more at how its ethical issues show that that commitment to social justice is skin deep at best also really highlights the reasons why Apple makes these choices with its products. I don't know if you were planning on doing a follow-up, but I'd love it if you talked more about those ethical issues!

  19. As someone who lives in a largish town outside of pittsburgh but has been to so many way smaller towns in the sw pa area. Sheetz has overtaken the mall as the place young people go to hang out, for sure. It makes sense, when i was in high school we'd bs at the mall until it closed and then go to denny's and stay there until 4 am.

  28. Reddit comments are such a dream to navigate compared to youtube or twitter. You can easily tell who's replying to what. You don't get endless notifications just because somebody replied to some other comment on the same thread. There are (for better or worse) mods. Boards have done this for literal decades at this point, how are both youtube and twitter screwing it up so badly in 2023?

  38. Fantastic video. Thank you for bringing awareness to the societal implications of these trend and this technology. Another aspect to consider is that generating these responses is very computationally expensive and the databases used to conduct AI responses suck down power. Every time you ask an AI voice impersonation a question, you are consuming an insane amount of energy. Multiply that by the number of people doing this trend to try and get famous and get paid, man.

  44. Hey Zack, I'm definitely one of those people from outside your demographic. I must say i noticed the changes in YouTube, and you're right. There are certainly swings and roundabouts to the current algorithm. Having said that, I've picked up an interest in just from YouTube's tinkering, so as you point out yourself, it just needs some tweeking. Added bonus. I needed a channel that explained what the Hell my kids (They're around your age) are talking about, so I subbed.
