  1. I am going to be 80 shortly. I'm still finishing up my cabin in the mountains. I have built every building on this one+ acres, and I just paid off my mortgage! Even now I don't get many visitors or phone calls. Once in a while I get this crazy idea that life in a nursing home would be a great idea. Thank you for scaring that idea right out of my head! I know that I would up and die prematurely just out of boredom and loneliness. I have plans for things I still want to accomplish, that could keep me busy for at least the next six years! It's as though watching this video has just saved my life. Thank you for making it!

  2. Thank you for this video. It has made me aware of thing's I hadn't thought about. I have a very dear friend that was put in a nursing home thinking it was temporary. His first day there he made the comment the next step is death. He's such a good sweet man. He asked me one day was he gonna have to stay there forever and the tears in my eyes told him what he wanted to know. He said they didn't tell me that when they talked me into this. Hes 86 and has the early signs of dementia. He could stay at home but no one wants to help him. He's a very dear friend of many years. His wife of 62 yrs passed last year and he feels so lost and hopeless and it breaks my heart but there's nothing I can do. I'm not allowed to visit him now because the lady in charge of him knows he trust me more than her so I can't go which is horrible for me and him. People should think long and hard before going in there. Stay at home as long as you can. I'll keep you in my prayers. God be with you 🙏🏻🥰

  5. I loved everything you said. I am almost 95 and live alone and love it. I come from a small family and my only child died three years ago. She had no children. The good Lord has blessed me throughout my lifetime and continues to do so.

  6. Nursing home is definitely a place of last resort when your loved ones are unable to take care of you in your advance age. Keep yourself healthy and stay independently is the best option.

But I'm glad imdkintand still working a 6 day week god willing I'm happy to work till im100 my mum bless heris 96 has dementia and Alzheimer's and is in a superb nursing home costing 2000 & a week wants for nothing butlosa god willing I would rath sleep in my salononthefloor than lose my independence as ng a I'm compos mentis il keep working I understand that if mentally and physically you can't function the you're family will put you ina home but till the putup yhegood fight

  13. You're so right. My wife had spine surgery due to cancer and we put her in nursing home. It was hell. No one would check and I started spending then to twelve hours a day on a steel chair next to her for five weeks. No freedom no one real cared like you would expect from other human beings. You earned your wings for this post.❤

  16. I hear what you are saying. I would like to share my experience. I am turning 80. Moved into a Care Centre 7 years ago. I am single, no children, for me the move has been the best decision I've made. I was diagnosed with Lymphoma 40 years ago and decided to.move to a home with frail care facilities. I've had short periods in the frail care , but was adamant it would only be temporarily back in my bedsitter, needing very little assistance at this stage. I do as much as possible for myself. I've got a chronic back problem and use a walker. In went through a difficult time emotionally in December. It was my decision to go for a brisk walk early in the morning. After 2 DAYS I felt better emotionally and have less pain. For me it is a great relief that I don't have to depend on my family to care for me, they have their own lives to live. My family visits me regularly, even my grand nieces visit/invite me to share the joy their children bring to them they treat my as if I am their granny/great granny. I could not wish for better and am very grateful for God's faithful provision for me.

I agree, I am 75 and have Fibromyalgia and lots of other health problems, I have always been there for all my friends, phone calls etc. but now I am finding that my long time close friends seem to have cut me off, I don’t have the energy to call people anymore, I send them birthday cards, but don’t get one in return. I have carried certain friends thro all their troubled times. I agree with everything you say, I have been thro all that, but now I have decided to let go and concentrate on enjoying the last few years of my life. I feel relief that I am not compelled to make the effort, it is such a relief. Some friendships can be very draining. I love my own space and company. I do have some close friends who really do care. Thank You for affirming that I made the right decision. I am at Peace now. I feel Free. 🤗🙏🕊

  19. I lived in a senior residence at the age of 60 because they took care of my husband who had Parkinson's Disease I went to work 5 days a week and came home for meals. I still continued my group activities. I even took my husband to church and to the theater until he was under hospice care. I moved out when he passed away. I return and do special concerts for the residents.

  20. My 74 yr old husband is going thru the transitioning process. What no one mentions is the caregiver and the guilt, anger sadness and a thousand other emotions. So often the anger comes out as a personal attack when in fact, as a caregiver, it is a result of not being able to take care of the problem. I am very spiritually religious, I’ve been quick to ask what bad thing have I done to deserve all of this? Recently, I’ve become enlightened to the thought of the great things my husband must have done to deserve me making sure he’s ok. Please seek a support group, the people going through what you are experiencing offer no advice. They just hold your hand and say “I know.”

  21. I understand how you feel. I went to the hospital and then from there to a rehab facility. The rehab facility sounds a lot like what you describe. My only saving grace was that I knew my stay was temporary. It made me determined to get back to my old self. Now that I'm home again I make sure to stay active & get up & out even if I don't want to. I just want to age in place gracefully. Thanks for your insights!

  22. I am 73 years old. I don't need help walking; don't need a cane or walker, but I keep a tri-pod cane right next to my bed. I use it when getting out of bed every morning. I steady myself until any dizziness subsides and I get my 'sea legs'. After I am steady and clear headed I proceed without the cane.

  23. I am 84 and live at home by myself. My kids don't visit. I will stay in my home until it becomes impossible. I have freedom to do as I like, eat what I want, etc. This video only reinforced my determination to do so.

  24. I’m 76 and walk 5-6 days a week and if I don’t walk I don’t feel as good. Walking is more than muscle strength building. It engages the cardiovascular system, boost the immune system and the sense of wellbeing. My balance has become much better because of walking. Don’t tell us elderly that balance has nothing to do with leg and hip strength. It does.

  25. Hello, I’m 81 yrs., had to go into a rehab/ Nursing home after 2 hospital stays. Mainly rehab for strengthening. I will attest to every word you said in your video ! It was a total nightmare to me. I’m back in my apt./ alone. My young adults came when I was in patient. But rarely here and I’m 20 minutes from all three. the rehab/nursing. And I’m a retired RN so even worse to accept. Now they are urging me to do again but permanently. I will pass here before I’d consent to that. I still dream on occasion of my stays there. From med errors to broken commodes to exact same meals day after day. Scares me if my mind goes, they will do above, but by then I guess I won’t care. But for now never ever would consent. Sure I’m lonely, better of the two options. Best to anyone thinking about this. Unless absolutely necessary.

  26. My friend has been in a nursing home for 5 years. She's only 74 now. She crys every day. The food is horrible the disrespect is worse. She's so lonely. Now she has cancer .. Very very sad

  29. I’ll be 71 in 6 months. I work part time evening cleaner. I found that being active I feel better. I feel better and stronger than sitting around in front of the tv all day. I like the comfort of living in my own home. But I know someday I’d be staying with my daughter and her husband when I’m in my 80’s. We all get old and weak the right time.   32. I am 84 and was a Matron in a Resthome. My daughter, when the time comes, said she would love for me to live with her. I have accepted her kind offer, but in the meantime I enjoy doing for myself and my own company. I enjoyed my work with the elderly and had an excellent staff of nurses. It is hard to believe, at times, that I am now elderly. I had lovely residents who were a joy to look after 😊

  37. There's no place like home! This almost happened to me & I fought it with all of the strength I had left. I even escaped a hospice care center far from my home & I am finishing out my years at my home I worked so hard to buy. God Bless my wife by sticking to my side plus all that she does for me! :face-red-heart-shape: We only get one chance at this life, live it properly & be grateful for the folks that Love you.

  45. I don't agree that this is the right attitude for everyone. Yes, we stop going to all the social events that we did when we were younger, and yes, there are friends that we no longer have things in common with, so we let them go, but when age related health issues, and issues with our sight keep us from doing what we once did, it is a blessing to have friends to talk to and share our lives and thoughts with. How wonderful to have family who still value having us around and time to continue to make memories with. We were not created to be alone. Enjoy those who are in your life.

  49. I'm 78, have started my day with a large glass of warm water ever since I spent two weeks in India. Next I do 20 minutes of gymnastics (with the help of an app) at the open window, have another glass of water with fresh lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, have a healthy breakfast (usually porridge with yoghurt and fresh or deep frost fruit ). Most elderly people like me have bags of time, so there's no excuse whatever to give up healthy routines. I don't take pills, aren't vegan, and am enjoying my life after having had a stressful 9 to 9 hard work with two children, one of them disabled. So, ladies and gentlemen, it's never too late to start a new life. Just go for it!

  50. OMG. Saddest thing I’ve heard. I felt that way, when my brother and his wife (executor by default) decided to force my Dad into aged care. When my Mom who was in palliative care passed, I kept dad at my place for 3 days. When I took him back,then went to visit 2 days later, he cried. He told me, they wouldn’t even let me mourn my wife. No, it is get up at a certain time,breakfast,lunch crap dinner then off to bed at 8 pm. He didn’t usually go to sleep till 10 pm. I was on the phone to my Dad one day at 5 pm. A carer came in and demanded he take his tablets NOW. He asked for privacy to talk to his daughter in his own room. She screamed at him, I asked him to let me talk to her. I gave her a piece of my mind,and asked if she’d ever heard of respect for your elders. Next thing he was changed from Low care to high care. He passed in less than 3 months,and I’ve never felt at peace for not fighting harder for his dignity ,his personal space,and not returning in kind all the love my parents gave me as a child. Totally heartbreaking.
