  4. Being sandwiched between John Wick 4 and the Mario Bros movie, the misinterperted marketing articles on making men dumb, and also the controversy on Dungeons and Dragons board game corperation as a whole has hurt this movies chance for a box office. Let see how damaging it is.

  8. The worst thing I find about the dialog at 2:54 is the complete shutdown of the questioning of the name 'Lost Boys'. She makes a good point of saying you're not all boys so why call yourselves 'lost boys'. The counter argument is just an aggressive 'so?' and based on that single word alone Wendy shuts down her curiosity and thinking brain and just says 'it doesnt matter' what a wonderful thing to teach kids!

  10. There are two fundamental problems with this movie. The first is that it's not the movie we - or History Buffs to be specific- wanted it to be. We wanted to see the young, ambitious, cunning, intelligent, brilliant Corsican officer rise to become Emperor using his wits and talents. We wanted to see his genius in planning battles and why his men followed him to the bitter end. We wanted to see the political climber who used lies and manipulation to claw his way to the top and stay there. We even wanted to see the Liberal reformer who made many compromises in realising his agenda for France. However, Scott wasn't interested in any of that. He wanted to tell a much more personal tale of Napoleon and Josephine, showing the world through their eyes and romance. An interesting angle but ok. That then brings us into the second problem with the movie as it fails spectacularly at that too. Who is Napoleon? Who is Josephine? Why do they love each other? Why does she cheat on him and why can't he let her go? Why are they so obsessed with each other and what draws them to each other? I sure as hell can't tell you based on the text of the film. We're never given any of the details to help us understand who they are, why they're drawn together and why it's tragic when circumstances force them apart. We just don't understand or care about them as we're never given the time to as so much attention is spent on battles and the political moves of Napoleon which, again, also aren't very well developed so rather than being a deep dive into Napoleon is instead a jumbled, confused, unfocused mess. And what's so frustrating is that all of the pieces are there! Phoenix and Kirby could have been great, the set pieces are spectacular, the movie in general looks gorgeous and with more time or a better script, could have been great. Really, I think Josephine should have been the main character. Call it "The Emperor's Wife" or something and frame it through her eyes, so no battles or politics, just show how she viewed him on her own. That's the only way it could have worked. Cos trying to do ALL this, and for a theatrical cut? It was as doomed for failure as invading Russia.

I still remember how during 'Commando,' Arnold's character John Matrix was originally supposed to have sex with one of the stewardesses when he was aboard the airplane after knocking out the guy that had taken him there at gunpoint. Keep in mind that John Matrix is about as shallow as the name implies. He's a vessel for action-violence with a single motivation for doing so. His character traits pretty much boil down to 'badass soldier that loves his daughter.' But when Arnold was told that Matrix would take a break form rescuing his kidnapped daughter to join the mile high club? He put his foot down. It didn't matter that he would be stuck on the plane for a static amount of time no matter what. He said that he couldn't see Matrix doing that because not only would it break from his character, but it would damage the audience's opinion of him. Imagine if Brie Larson had half the self-awareness and character understanding as Arnold Schwarzenegger during 'Commando.' Hell, imagine if she had reacted to the situation with the Don (even the original version where she just robs him) by trading some Kree technological trinket for his bike after showing him how much it's capable of. It wouldn't even need to be much. It could basically just be an iPhone that combines radio, phone, TV, etc in a single package. Hell-2, it's the 90s. Just being able to pick up internet on something so small would be insane. There could be a postcredit scene where SHIELD buys it off him, helping to explain their technology level even given Howard Stark's death.

  24. I watched dozens of Barbie vids with my daughter. In those vids Barbie was always a self-sacrificing, non-judgemental, loving, strong, tolerant and very feminine character. Her strength was in her personality and wisdom. Modern films like this are all about extreme narcissism and a self-centered hatred toward the last remaining unprotected class. 114 minutes of Femsplaining.

  32. I'd say that Stallone was so great in Rocky because of the struggle he went through just trying to get the damn movie made. He even had to sell his dog - which he eventually got back (that's the dog he gets in the movie). I'm certain that the way his life was going at the time had a huge impact on his performance. Not to mention he wrote the script. Stallone poured his heart in this movie, and it definitely deserved the Oscar for Best Picture.
