What I want to know is how in the hell do you prpperly weld the coolant passages you can't get to. There is no way that head won't leak coolant internally after this so called repair.

I make this comment as a retired toolmaker and design engineer who still uses a metal shop (at my local Menz Shed) and I can say that I am really quite impressed by the workmanship in this video. The freehand gas-axe work was beautiful — especially cutting out the holes for the big pins. I even learnt something new — I have never seen a lathe used to line bore like that. The positional accuracy wouldn't have been great, but it would have been good enough, and the hole sizes would have been more than OK. Even Kurtis at Cutting Edge Engineering uses a hammer to adjust the cutting tool when line boring, although he does have a DTI to get closer tolerances than these guys would have managed. I am maybe a bit worried about the welding as there was bevels I could see, so the welds would have had little penetration. I guess if it works, it works.

11:02 see how the hydraulic break operator has a high sense of awareness and using hand gestures to command other assistants to get out of the way before the plate springs up. Complete harmony between workers and machines. High level of situational awareness and safety mindset 👏

This guy is great considering what he has to work with. He's very meticulous with alignment, good welding (he has very basic welding equipment). A good craftsman.

This welded cilinderhead will be fitted on a welded cilinderblock and will be a perfect boat anchor

I absolutely don't understand some people who use animals for work and don't give him a lot of food. My conscience wouldn't allow it. Shame on you who do it!

50 years ago I worked at Sterling Metals (UK) making cylinder heads and blocks. Today the pattern equipment for a head would be in the region of £300-400k. This vid was amazing - pattern equipment from scratch to make some replacement heads. Not to mention the moulding and core-making skills. Well impressed. Although I did wonder how they were going to make the water jacket core to keep the head from overheating. Answer - don't have one.

The team of workers is very professional and well-trained. I think this is really a quality channel about repairing and restoring old items, and deserves to be known and followed by more people. Congratulations 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

If you look at the valve seats you can tell this was a junk head that they just broke to make another fake video .

Pretty dam good. You can tell this guy has done many before, and I’ll bet he wouldn’t be in business if his success rate wasn’t good. A+ for effort.👍👍👏🏻👏🏻

i like how the guy with the sliced up knee is sitting one out taking a break while the guy who is about to slice his knee cuts the next sheet. lol. These guys are great!

The acting at the start deserves an Oscar!

i feel sorry for the horse poor thing not fed enough got cuts all over and you can see its ribs! if they fed it better it would perform better
83
Awesome work guys. You’re very good at building those turntables. Much respect from Australia 🇦🇺

" See hard working man putting lives in danger with this stupid trick". More like it... .
77
This is what you call teamwork your guys are amazing you work hard for your money man my respect goes to you
76
It is so nice to see everyone doing their part and working together. Great work guys.

Cutting Edge Australia, watch and cry🇦🇺😂✌️

These peaple never cease to amaze me .they could realy use a Milwaukee m18 1/2 inch or 3/4 high torque impact gun .
62
I love how they clamp the ground on the far end of the lathe and welding current runs through headstock bearings or whatever else is a good ground. I saw a guy once weld a rollcage in a stock car using the end of the crankshaft as a ground. Didn't turn out well about 10 minutes after he hit the track.

Safety first 😮 Most of all I feel sorry for the horse, fatten it and heal its wounds.

Not a lot of welders know how to do a hot tack. At 17:05 he welds both sides then hits each side with the hammer while the welds are still hot. The weld is just hot enough to compress but cold enough to hold the metal tight against the metal you are working with. This takes practice but if you do it right it will give you a super tight fit much like a hot rivet would. The sheet metal in the beginning of the video likely came from a scrapped ship. Nice way to repurpose some good steel.

I pray for the horse.😢
52
It is admirable how they carry out such work with the simplest means .... Respect

Love this channel. Never ceases to amaze me what people can do with rather simple tools but a lot of skill and knowledge.
49
These men are a credit a example to the working man in all country's with minimal equipment and tools working in the outdoor situation using their own common sense to stay safe Cheers from Nz
46
These guys risk their lives doing this type of work. A frayed cable or strap could mean disaster. I guess feeding the family is the most important thing. You do what you have to. Kudos guys.
45
I like the involute shaped bench grinder wheel at 16:35.
42
41
This video makes me want to start a go fund me for respirators for these guys.

39
I am so impressed at the caliber of work you do considering the tools and conditions you work with and in. Great job!!!...👍..
38
Let's remember just a couple of years ago some of these people thought it a good idea to extend a five story sewing factory up another couple of floors with concrete slabs. Naturally the building pancaked and crushed 1600 mostly women sewing garments.
36
Very very few people can truly understand what dude did here. I am very impressed given what he has available to him. 👏
36
meanwhile a CAT mechanic in US:sir that brake job is gonna cost you 11 000 dollars and will take about a month to complete.
35
That ring must be pretty thin after all that cutting. Also, no heat treatment for the teeth means it's not going to last very long.
34
Aaaah yes.....the "close enough" measuring system, I'm kind of surprised they didn't use a piece of string to measure the bore....
33
I'm an American, and was in Thailand 21 yrs. and built several houses with local hill tribe helpers. Most of the framing is with steel members. I didn't like welding, so I always had helpers do that part. Once they came running to me with their welding masks and told me to look at the sun. It was a partial eclipse. Another time, they all jumped down from their workplaces and ran down the dirt road. I soon realized they were chasing a large snake. Dinner.
33
33
Cool to see this heavy cutting done without a plasma or water jet cutter or computerized cutting. Their heavy pantograph for torching small parts out of heavy sheet was fairly modern, though some of the torching was done freehand. Great work by great workers, I just wish we could all get along and respect our differing cultures and religions and quit blowing people up everywhere, from the ground and from the air, all sides would benefit from a forever-cease-fire.

Amazing to watch, that forge work was unbelievable, how they coordinated and moved those huge pieces of steel till they got the correct shape. Brilliant workers 👍

United States 😂😂

On today's episode of how not to machine gears.
28
Expensive to trim with oxy-acet. They paint over a lot of rust - that's a bit slack. Bumper bar shown at the end already has a small dent in it.
27
Dear God how do these get on the market and I love the tight half inch tolerances and the acceptable 10mm back play in the tool post
27
The best is the guy doing the letters, he didn’t make any single mistake, great skill! 🎨
