My partner and I struggled to find a flat to rent because even though we earned enough to afford the rent and bills and the council tax, we got zero hour contracts (as a supervisor and a shift leader! isn't that great lol). On top of that, me renting together with him was actually going to be cheaper than when I was renting a room on my own, and yet countless and countless agencies turned us away. we finally found something from a private landlord. our rent started at 795 when we moved in 2 years ago, the second the minimum wage went up, they increased the rent to 825. and if you look around the area, it's actually still on the cheaper side, as those greedy bastards are now often trying to charge 700 for a ROOM, or 800 for a studio, and it's not even nice, just shabby and ugly.
my partner is half-Irish and I'm Polish, so we're going to take advantage of that and leave to Norway as soon as we save up.

If we look at the actual cause of the cost of living crisis, we have: 1) privatisation of trains, buses, water, electricity & gas, where charges are up to 2.5 times that in France, 22 miles away from Treasure Island & the rivers are full of shit; 2) Brexit, with red tape on imports & exports, a shortage of labour on farms pushing up costs and prices; 3) government maintenance of restrictive planning laws, sucking up to NIMBYs & subsidised first time buyer policies all of which push up prices; 4) QE or Quantitive Easing electronic money creation pushing up value of assets such as property and of it's rent, great for landlords and billionaires; 5) imported commodity price inflation, mostly 2020-2022. All but 5) caused by the Tory governments.

The UK's wealth was built on the back of its colonies, which bankrolled its prosperity. The country basked in the warmth of that colonial afterglow throughout the second half of the 20th century. But now, two decades into the 21st century, that flame has flickered out.
In reality, the UK has simply returned to its default setting. Before its colonial conquests, the UK was a modest nation. The past two centuries were an anomaly ā a sudden surge in fortunes. Now, with its pillage-and-plunder days behind it, the UK has reverted to type.
Life on a damp, chilly island in the North Atlantic was never particularly enviable. Without its colonial spoils, the UK's fate is, indeed, a humbler one.

I'm English, but I've also lived and worked in other countries for years - Spain and South Korea. I came back to the UK last year, and holy shit, things have seriously gone to hell. I now live in Manchester, which is the most economically dynamic part of England (and probably the whole UK) aside from London, so I'm not even seeing the worst of it on a day to day basis at all. The general sense of like how much society has just broken down, and how much the cost of living has risen, it's tragic and it's way more extreme than I think a lot of people who've been here throughout the deterioration will realise as they're like frogs boiled in water. Brexit and the Johnson immigration system is a big part of it, the wholesale betrayal of younger generations is a part of it, corruption (especially during coronavirus), and the planning system all contribute towards economic stagnation. But the thing I hate the most is the absolute lack of pride and dignity anyone takes in their work anymore. You used to be able to pay for a service and you'd get it done to a reasonable standard, now everyone is just out to fuck each other. This is how a country dies.

Im british, i blame the politicians and landlords mostly. The politicians keep allowing undocumented migrants in with no moderation, keep arresting normal citizens for made up crimes, and taxing us with no benefits. while the courts never prosecute real criminals.
It sucks, but one cannot abandon their own country unless its absolutely cataclysmic.
As seen in the comments here, a lot of people left their country to come to the UK, only to be screwed over, and seeing their family and friends get a better life at home while they suffer. The same thing is likely to happen to people in the UK if they just give up and leave.
We need to fix tland rebuild this country. It is going to be hard, but all the good people leaving, and leaving behind all the bad people and new immigrants will be the end of hope. As seen in alot of other countries which got brain drain due to emigration.
Hunker down and take the pain. Its better that your kids choose to leave when they are old, rather than disrupt their life in their important years.
Do what is the best for your safety, but I am going to stay because this is my home and I cannot stand to see it be squandered away by satanic politicians.
We all struggle to see long term. Things can be bad for a long time but not forever.
