Personally I think that the model needs to change from shiny sparkling Chargers and Camaros for 18 year old dumbasses to actual career opportunities for the kids who witnessed 9-11 and haven't joined yet. There are a lot of 25-30 year-olds needing solutions for their future and they're not being offered the right incentives for joining the Army.

  8. NLAW is the ideal compromise between the three. Much cheaper than the javelin, lighter, and yet still quite effective. Save the fewer javelins for heavy tanks and/or high- value targets like missile launchers. The third model is best for lesser trained soldiers in territorial units

  17. As good planners, there should have been multiple plans for leaving the country depending on the situation. I don't know who makes plans in the military hierarchy. I'm sure that you as a platoon or company leader had contingency plans for any operation.

  19. As a rare crossover of medieval history nerd and Iraq and Afghanistan veteran, scale mail has inherent strengths and weaknesses. Dragon scale, inherits those. Yes a plate will degrade with successive hits, so will dragon scale. Dragon scale is a good concept, better execution with tighter tolerances will probably be the body armor of America's next war.

  24. Standards are standardsā€¦..Iā€™m retired from the Marinesā€¦.that weightā€¦..muscle or not, thatā€™s weight someone else has to carryā€¦.if youā€™re shot. Itā€™s shity to think about but those muscle guys have zero enduranceā€¦.they bench 300 pounds 4 times, bump their chest and are tired. Diet and nutrition is lacking in the army side. As a military, we need to be fit and lean. Shipboard sailors are super overweight. Iā€™ve been retired for 8 years and still pass the height / weight/CFT and PFTā€¦ We canā€™t be jigglin for justiceā€¦ We need to be fit and lean. Regardless of MOS or military branch. Overweight leads to health problems. Semper USMC/ Retired

  29. I'm german. One of my classmates is from Herat and my mother who's a physiotherapist treats an Afghan family which invited ius multiple times for dinner. I love the people and they got such an intrigueing history. In my opinion the retreat from Afghanistan is the biggest fuck up the West ever did in recent history, even worse than our hesitation to fully support Ukraine with heavy arms. I just hope than one day all these people are able to savely revisit their countries in peace. So unjust that they have to suffer because of the taliban and the west.

  30. Hell yeah,, it's Dangerous Unfortunately at Ft Benning, Ga. Combat Engineers with Rangers were using C4 to make "Tank traps/holes". The SSG/NOIC of the range had his men to close to the explosion. A very large 4'Ɨ3' piece of Georgia Red Clay dirt slammed into a newly assigned Soldier who stood up to soon, after the explosion. It took that chunk of moist clay longer to come down. It killed the PV2 instantly. The Soldiers family was devastated and the SSG did have to do time and was DisHon Discharged. Combat Engineers use some pretty crazy stuff.

  36. Uhh...dude. We went through this during the late 90's during the Clinton administration. The big hold up was the tech industry and the riches gained there. Hence the reasons for $45k and up sign on and re-enlistment bonuses of which I partook. The difference here being our economy is taking a dump and our political system being fractured as it is. My family has been standing for this country since the 1680's and for once I pray my son doesn't follow in my footsteps.

I was about 5 years older than most of the guys in my squad and leadership looked to me to keep the guys squared away with all the little things so I had to really make sure my shit was good to go all the time and if I went toxic I would have gotten ripped pretty hard so I had to be toxic on the inside, it was worth it though I ended up getting my E-5 before some other people

  47. i was wondering if you were gonna mention the safe life defense fras, which is quite similar but seems like it works well. im not sure of the elemental effects (like heat) on the integrity but from what ive seen its held up under light use circumstances and heavy calibers. level 4 with small ceramic plates as well, but wrap around like soft 3a armor
