I was in from 04 to 18 I seen the shift but I'm a Marine so we got stuff slower then the Army like normal nothing new when I was in Fallujah with 3ed Marines we had inersepter vests and the plates we only rated for NIJ level 3 and the flack was a normal NIJ 2. So common FMJ (not AP rated).30 cal and down multi hit at 2700fps. We did not get the level 4 ESAPI until late 07. The armor was great for AK threats but you bumped it to 762Ɨ54r or 8mm Mauser AP or even we had 762Ɨ51 AP shot at us. (Found a good amount of G3 and FN FALs over there.) I got shot by a Chechen with a 8mm Mauser I was extremely lucky. The bullet was stopped but it settled in the muscal of my peck over my heart. It was a AP round they had them. Are vicks had welded on armor or they gave us this snap on hang on your door armor that would fall off. My first deployment I did not have a turret shield (name tape defolade baby, blackhawk down style.) And guys we getting all this guchie gear scamers were selling non tested or bubba tested vests and plates and so on. Had a guy brag about his plates being top of the line shit, and he spent his hole pay check getting them. He took a muzzle thump and his new plate cracked instantly. We herd of the dragon scale armor also of the XM8 battle rifle, and the light weight OICW 20mm machine gun that was light as air and some how made your dick two inches longer and so on. The military waste the shit out of money. If we took what we know works refined it made it lighter, stronger, and tougher it would save us. But we'll the good idea fairy bites that higher up that doesn't have to run hills, or hump gear anymore and boom multi millions or even billions right into the shitter. I wish they would focus on the regular infantry solider or Marine like the SF guys. Make getting into the infantry harder, make training harder. Out fit the individual. The SF guys get fitted to their shit no one size fits all shit. Have a very regimented program in the big army or the fleet and have medical staff and admin staff at the Company level. So guys can focus on training. So on and so on. I don't see it happening but a tired infantry Jarhead can wish on a dead ISIS fighters corpse

  26. Yeah everyone with a press pass being allowed to give info without anyone clearing it first hasn't really gone well in a lot of instances, war especially. Be it misinformation or breaking OpSec you'd figure something would be done sooner but you know well enough sometimes it takes awhile to say "Hey maybe this isn't good..." i.e. Tic-Tok.

  30. i had a buddy that was sf in that area. told me about a hotel/ resort extraction they had to do involving local vips. he said it all went south fast and the whole tour was a shitshow. this was around 2014 wonder if it had anything to do with the ambush?

  43. I hope you young pups are ready for the draft to come back in order to keep our standing military strong. It WILL happen if this continues and then you'll end up being placed in MOS's that you wouldn't want to do. If you know that you're military age and don't want to be drafted, your best bet will be to sign up and go into an MOS you want to work in. It'll suck a lot less for you and you'll be treated with more respect because you actually signed up instead of getting drafted.

  46. Clearly, a combination of the three is the best due to their respective advantages. For example, taking down a convoy of supplies, the AT4 can be brought in numbers. When heavy armor ia incoming from a distance, you would want the javelins. In an ambush of tanks the NLAW would excel.

  48. Agreed, Service personnel would make great teachers. Only a small percentage of teachers have masters degrees, let's be factual. Of course the teachers unions object, but, if they addressed the reasons why people don't want to be teachers, instead of trying to preventing Vets from being teachers, the whole system would be better.

They will take troops from the most ā€œcontainedā€ theaters & move them to the least contained & hope the situation doesnā€™t deteriorate in the contained theaters until they can redeploy troops back..
