  4. I'm from Russia. I love watching videos like this with abandoned houses. they have their own atmosphere. I can imagine how people once lived in them, communicated with neighbors, and children ran around. It's amazing why all this was abandoned. Isn't that true in many states?

  5. What happened to Franklin is that two famous oil companies Quaker state and penzoil that was founded there got bought out threw mergers. Shell petroleum of Texas closed the refineries and capped oil pump production... Shell moved everything to Texas and purchased the brand names only...

  6. My hometown. So much hustle and bustle growing up…it’s sad to see what it has become. I still have family there and go home from time to time but it is quite a depressing environment so I always limit my stay

  7. Right outside of downtown Cincy - Vine Street and surrounding area is where this is at. Towards the end of the video, is closer to the “over the rhine” area which surprisingly isn’t too far from UC. Those areas have been in decline since the early 2000’s. Now it’s just a hollow shell. The nicer areas of Cincy are the suburbs.

  11. Great clip! Reminds me of my native county of Schuylkill. Another coal miner’s territory. Both my great grandfathers worked the mines. A lot of history and heritage in that area. Unfortunately, many parts of it look much like this. It’s tragically beautiful to see nature reclaim itself though.

  13. When I think Pennsylvania it's steel industrial city/ towns Claritin happens to be one.. Much of the old architecture seems to be holding strong . Sadly another city passed on Thank you for sharing your time 👍🏻 stay safe in your travels

  17. The Automobile capital at one time. Unbelievable a major industria metro city turn into this... i remember CBS 60 minutes did a story on how many abandoned home and industrial buildings needing removed. 85,000 in total. And no funding to demolished

  19. Some of these abandoned buildings are too far gone. Need to bring out the bulldozer and rid the place of those really bad properties. Then gentrification has a chance of working.

  22. I remember watching WKRP in Cincinnati as a child and thinking that it was a pretty good sized city. I guess it was at one point. You should try Cleveland next.

  38. As a retired Canadian paratrooper, I spent quite a bit of my exchange training in West Virginia. I absolutely love the place. The call of history, the hills and vista's. I'm riding down late summer to trace some of my old haunts. I want to spend a couple of weeks on my motorcycle going back to memories and honor some who have passed.

  48. Florida is such a state of contrasts. I suppose many states are, but the contrast in wealth and poverty in Florida is particularly striking to me. Thanks for another interesting vid. If I were younger and more physically able, I would LOVE to explore those abandoned homes! 😊

  49. Thurmond is well known to railfans. It still sees a lot of traffic, both freight and coal. An Amtrak train even still calls here if you want to ride it. It appears as if the grade crossing signals are malfunctioning as they're flashing but no trains are around. I don't know if you could move here. I don't think any homes are for sale. There are no real estate listings for Thurmond. I assume those homes on the hill are still lived in. This is one of the one the more detailed videos I've seen of Thurmond. Interesting. Nice that so much is preserved.

  50. I once lived in Ann Arbor, near Detroit. Unbelievable. Where have all the people gone who lived in those many many vacant houses ? Did they move out to other cities ?
