  5. Great Vid Wendall, Don’t often see videos on the other side, this dude seems so positive and taking each day as it comes. Feel so sorry for genuine people like this, Reading has a massive drug and homeless problem. A lot of people here refuse help because they are addicts.

  23. That was a very nice thing you said to them young lads. I grew up in north wales and was fortunate enough to get away and make somewhat of a career for myself. I hope you got through to them because more people in the area need to hear positivity like yours 😊

  24. We have this problem certain places in Norway too. It affects the infrastructure like supermarkets, schools, public transport and a lot more. Some of the places have made a rule that if you buy a house there, it must be your first home and you are forced by law to officcially move house and live there a minimum 6 months every year. It has helped somewhat, but this rule is not everywhere.

  33. Enjoyed the tour of our great town, shame you didn't get a guide who actually knows the place - if he's not old enough to have known it before Weatherspoons it's a poor show. Many of the grand buildings you pointed to have wonderful heritage. The 7 sisters are wonderful homes which have been treated to 10 years of wilful neglect by the housing authority who were also complicit in the death of Awaab Ishak - primarily to make names for themselves as the saviours of Rochdale by removing said 7 sisters and replacing them with a fraction of the number of homes. Thankfully Robin Parker and others had the foresight to see what the estate could again be (Well said Ann) and we are now hopeful of a successful outcome. The changing face of the country and its requirements unfortunately demand the likes of the Riverside centre which is not to many people's taste, whilst the dereliction of close surrounding areas is not addressed - much needed housing stock could be placed in these areas without causing excessive disruption. A few bad pennies don't need to destroy a town's reputation - Rochdale Borough as a whole has much going for it with the countryside so close and accessible - our immigrant population has a lot to offer and the diversity is great for the town if we all just give it a chance. Thanks Wendall for highlighting us. THE ONLY WAY IS UP !!

  35. Just wanted to say thank you for these amazing videos. I'm becoming obsessed with yours and Wandering Turnip's, especially now that I'm up further North. I lived in Cov 3.5 years. I have a love-hate relationship with the town. There are some amazing cultural relics, old and new, about the city that will entice me to come back. However, its not a place I could ever live long-term again. All the money's pumped into three industries - CoventryU, the Hospital, and JLR - but the job market there isn't diverse enouh to accommodate the needs of the rapidly changing demographics. Many of the locals are pissed off drugs and booze as there's no work for them to do, which feeds into the homelessness and soaring crime rates. I recently revisited Cov in 2022, and they've made some topical changes to the city. Cov's got a reemerging night life, but nothing massive. New stores, Fargo, some cladding here and there... the Reel Store and the new Telegraph Hotel are both ace. However, people will need more than the small business district near the train station to keep the industry there from going bust, and the city will need to keep reinventing itself. Coventry was my gateway to the UK, and I'm proud to have started my new life here. But much like St Michael's Cathedral, its a bitter reminder of the spirit of the once great city. Its also a Phoenix City, so hopefully it will soon complete its transmutation.

I left the uk because I was luck enough to be born in no England tried to break me down to homelessness over a period of say thirty years so really appreciate your content I can now see from seeing how fucked up the uk is how much I miss the people thank you for your videos brother and have a great new year carry on the good work mate

  37. Blackpool, went there once in November 1997, with my new girlfriend. Out of season, run down, nothing open and stayed in an awful B & B. Surprised it didn't split us up, but been together ever since, some 27 years later lol. Not been back to Blackpool though! Never Again!

  38. Wendall I really love your videos, very humanising and important. I lived in Brighton 12 years ago and it was difficult to find a job that paid the rent (1/3 of my income was going on my rent) I can only imagine things have gotten much worse.

My Father was walking along Praa sands beach one warm October morning fully clothed with my Mother & some old friends when a freak wave took him, the beach literally was washed from under him, fortunately the friends were able to save him & bring him back to shore, don’t underestimate the power of the sea !!!!!

  48. Thanks for doing this one. I have great memories of Castle Market in Sheffield. It no longer exists in its original location. I went to a market in Bradford and it brought back memories as how the one in Sheffield once was. They have an atmosphere of their own. Worth keeping.
