  17. Most people do not understand how insurance works. Besides investments, they purchase reinsurance to cover any shortfalls in coverage. CA does not allow reinsurance costs to be passed to consumers. Add in inflation and increased rebuilding costs and it has become untenable. Remember nobody will insure for earthquakes in CA. This is not unlike insurers not insuring for hurricane damage in Florida.

The problem is creative thinking works in the private sector where investors will pull the plug on failures. We never hear of the 95% of failures. The remaining successes reap huge rewards and make up for the vast number of failures. These people think applying this process to government will have the same results. The issue is politicians never pull the plug on failures. Instead, they double down on their failures. They do not care. It is taxpayer money. The blue states grew economically in spite of liberal government, not because of it. The money simply masked the problems until the breaking point.

  47. I use Caltrain on a daily basis. It is a good experience especially with the new clean electric trains. The trains are packed during rush hour. Caltrain enforces fares unlike BART and SF Muni so crime is non existent. We do have the once a month suicide jumper delaying trains, so take that as you will. SF Muni and BART are essentially mobile drug dens.
