@FlipWarBucks If you want to say he's a warrior, fine. I'm not trying to say he was garbage. But I've been listening to people talk about how much of a killer Mugabi was for years and when you REALLY get into what he did, you said it right: Journeymen exist for a reason. Mugabi hammered them. Against actual world class competition - he was the nail.
3
@jameserath4192 He did and I heard he's coming back in September now.
3
@RandomRamblerOnYouTube Yep. When he was at his absolute best, Toney fought like he already knew what his opponent was going to do ALL THE TIME.
3
@handfloboxingreview1673 You are completely correct but even with that being the case, no one else has done what she's done. Serrano once won a title at 140 and then in her very next fight, she dropped to junior bantamweight and won another. So not at Pac's level, I agree, but remarkable still.
3
@ThEWatcheR216 LOL!
3
Really too bad that Juanma and Gamboa never got to fight. Took too long to build it up and then they both started losing.
3
@leehrvyoswld She won the fight. She's currently the WBA bantamweight champion. I think she's going to fight Hughes again.
3
@ETAontheway You're right. It is. But you know when he watches the fight, Akale (and his trainer) is going to be thinking the same thing.
3
Devin Haney 10-2.
3
@decidingpaper6324 Yep! Just something about that shot bothers him. He can't pick it up.
3
@decidingpaper6324 That's true. That's a good point, Bernardo was much better than Cannon. I think Bernardo might actually still be fighting.
3
He ended up beating the hell out of Santillan but he's been out since. Now Norman makes up for lost time.
3
@gatekeeperboxing5898 I was thinking the same thing. There're two or three pretty good fighters at atomweight, I'm sure they'd LOVE to fight Estrada with the payday it would likely bring. Still would LOVE to see her fight Yoka Valle at 105, but I think Valle could make 102 as well.
3
@decidingpaper6324 Hefny's a decent step. He's old now and smaller and not much of a puncher, but he's a tough guy. Will lose but THIS filth almost surely won't happen to him.
3
@decidingpaper6324 Yes! I was talking about this not too long ago. It's like they train them almost exclusively to be amateurs, so they get to the pros and they're still just punching to make contact instead of punching to do damage. It's REALLY ODD how many prospects/contenders they produce that have low ko ratios - the exact opposite of the Dominican Republic.
3
@mikimiyazaki lol, if he ends up champion then he proves me wrong doesn't he?
3
@decidingpaper6324 Really good next opponent. Esteban's fought Moises Caro twice and he did as good as Elwin Soto did. Never been stopped, excellent opponent for Navarro.
3
@3rikhndez Yeah it would! That'd be the fight of the year favorite right there.
3
@decidingpaper6324 Oh and yes, he got a shovel, dug a hole and threw Nicholson in it.
3
Anderson needs to be careful. I think he gets a little bit too over aggressive at times and he walks into punches. He deals with that - I think he's the goods. I think he's a future champion.
3
@Lameahhboi9393 No I didn't try to lie about it. I was just wrong. I thought he was 35, I was just wrong. There is no uniform age for "prime". Fighters, and athletes in general, peak at different times. So how old Canelo is has nothing to do with Pernell Whitaker.
3
@Lameahhboi9393 What does Canelo have to do with Pernell Whitaker? They're two different people. Beterbiev is 39 years old. Is he still in his prime? Maybe. So that must mean that everyone is still in their prime at 39? That's ridiculous. You can find people who peaked in their 20's, it's unique to everyone. And I'm not making excuses. Go back to my original point, I was giving Oscar credit. The man fought THREE GENERATIONS of first ballot Hall of Famers. If you think that Pernell Whitaker at his best needs a hail mary to beat Diobelys Hurtado and arguably deserved to lose the first fight against Wilfredo Rivera, then think it. And if you're still stuck on comparing Canelo to Whitaker, I would DEFINITELY make the point that Canelo has taken FAR better care of himself outside the ring than Whitaker ever did, especially at the end of his career.
3
@combatsportlover6919 I am not disrespecting him as a fighter at all. What I'm saying is if you take a look at the killers he fought, you wouldn't think that a person who fought ALL of them was a great fighter. The people who typically fight that level of competition are journeymen. They fight them as prospects on the way up, just like you said, I completely agree. You RARELY see an actual championship caliber fighter with the roster of opposition Oscar has, especially in the last 50 years or so. That's to his credit which was what I was saying. You cannot question his quality of opposition.
3
@5:26 THAT IS VILE! That is so nasty! @7:01 is just a peach! Perfect shot.
3
One of the most one-sided big fights. Toney could have beaten Barkley with one hand.
3
@decidingpaper6324 I saw that... also remarkable that someone made a bot to do that..... WHY??
3
They're both with Top Rank now, so hopefully, somewhere down the line, we get Vito - Xander.
3
2-7. He's a young journeyman.
3
@decidingpaper6324 Outclassed definitely. He was far above him tonight. And I would still expect Sosa to do well against certain guys in the future.
3
@decidingpaper6324 Exactly. A lot of people saw him for the first time tonight and, as you can see, they're thinking this is him. He's better than that against most fighters. He was in with someone really good tonight.
3
@notpaper-cr6ni He won't have to beat Bakole. I think that ship has sailed. He's 24 years old, which is an embryo for a heavyweight, I think he can take 2-3 years and work on his skills and turn out to be just fine.
3
Think John Fury was probably a fan of Norman Stone.
3
@decidingpaper6324 That's definitely a possibility. You know if he'd stayed at Top Rank, with everyone they have between 126-135, he would have gotten a shot at SOMEONE'S title by now.
3
@TheBeasty233 He just got dropped. He was #1 for quite awhile but, last I checked, the WBO had downed him to like #4 or 5. He certainly hasn't helped himself being out since March but... he may never get a title shot at this point or, like you said, get one when he's passed his best.
3
No no. I get why you're saying that but he's not being racist. That's Ricky Perez he's talking about. He works in construction when he's not fighting.
3
You know what's funny - Perro Angulo fights in Atlanta on the same day.
3
@alexismunoz9671 You are completely correct. Given what he went on to do, it would have been one of the worst ever.
3
@maniacmasturbator2411 Simon Brown was in the underworld beating the hell out of someone, but the ref figured he give him a count anyway, just in case he made it back in less than ten seconds.
3
@Strazion Eri Matsuda. Has two belts at atomweight and I think one of the other champions in the division is also Japanese.
3
@decidingpaper6324 In a completely and unapologetically bias way, it kinda enhances the legacy now.... James Toney didn't even have to train! Maybe he wouldn't win, but he'd be in absolutely garbage condition and you still couldn't lay a glove on him. He knew which punches you were going to throw before you did.
3
I wouldn't be surprised if they made it at some point, but I don't want to see that again. And definitely not next.
3
@decidingpaper6324 That makes it even more disturbing, now that you mention it. Disturbing with a shot of sinister.
3
@bgonza2 They'd have to come up with something brilliant because if he fights like he normally does, I don't think Navarrete wins a round against Stevenson.
3
I'm assuming Takei is still going to fight Yuttapong first when he's healthy but this is a fun fight later this year.
3
@decidingpaper6324 Excluding Thais. Pretty much every boxing match between two Thais is probably a fight between two former kickboxers/mt fighteers. Thinking of Troy Dorsey, Algieri, buy like that, surely they never fought fellow ex-kickboxers as world champions.
3
@HugoRamirez-fw5ny Marsellos would definitely qualify, but he'd probably be the least talented person mentioned thus far. I think Ryan Garcia's brother is probably even better than Marsellos.
3
@Unclejack328 There you go! Thank you. Yeah, he's much better than the guys that I was thinking of. Same reason I didn't mention Gaby Canizales.
3
@thisislilraskal I think he may end up on it, but it's too early to say that now. We have to give him a chance first.
3
@buttagtm1 I didn't say he could.
3
@isaacramirez2098 He fought once after that. I think the guy's name was Calvo and that was that for his career.
