Indeed. Competition can be useful, but once you go down the road of 'competing', you start playing the rules, cutting corners to shave .1sec and learn really bad habits, like counting on stage walkthroughs, and just satisfying the use of cover rules. I do occasional IDPA and while I always qualify in the top ⅓, I almost always finish in the bottom ⅓ and usually the bottom ¼. Mainly because I use cover like I would in real life and only spend the minimum time on stage prep.
Then, theres the guy awhile back that was home from the sandbox and was making breakfast in a dark kitchen at 4am, when three guys kicked his front door. He ran out the backdoor, grabbed a .380 out of his car, went back in the front door and smoked two them.
