@nancyross7935 Trump's people are funny in many ways. For example, they insist that we thank Trump and respect Trump for his role in helping develop the vaccines. But then they turn around and refuse to take the vaccine, or claim it's an attempt to spy on them, or say it makes them magnetic, or say it lets the authorities track them. So does that mean, in their poisoned minds anyway, that Trump wanted to track them and make them magnetic?

Let's see. Making child labor legal, making the marriage of children legal, banning abortion, defunding schools, suppressing the vote .. sounds like some rich white male conservatives are indulging their fantasies about turning HS cheerleaders into barefoot pregnant stay-at-home moms who don't vote.
1
To be fair, many were misled to voting for Trump (or not voting at all) because of the demonization of a microscopic minority of Americans ** allegedly causing widespread chaos in school athletics. (** trans kids, half a percent of the population)

@Joh2n OK. Here's what you seem not to understand: the common flu kills around 34K-43K people every year even when no one is wearing masks and nothing is shut down. By comparison, even when people do mask and things are shut down, with distancing and hand sanitization and masks, coronavirus kills above 600K people in a year. One of them is a recurring seasonal phenom we're all familiar with already, the other is something new that killed lots of people.
1
@Joh2n Regarding "No good solution" - sorry, I disagree vehemently. We've got some very fine vaccines which are proving amazingly effective. They are available for free. They protect you even better than the immunities you could acquire naturally acquire at the risk of death or permanent effects.
1
This thing about hitting rock bottom and trying to dig even deeper -- you may think of it as a feature of the Trump administration, not a bug.
1
Funny how all the gun-waving "2A is the solution to government overreach" types who spent 8 years screeching about "dictator Obama" won't have a single bad thing to say when someone from the same ethnographic segment as them (minus the orange skin) genuinely seizes power and disregards the rule of law. As a barrier against tyranny, they're proving to be worse than useless in this regard.
1
New Zealand escaped that by not letting Murdoch run one of his hate-media operations there.
1
At his rallies, Trump leads "lock her up" cheers directed at house leader Pelosi, even though she's committed no crimes, while he calls for Roger Stone to be released, even though Roger Stone has been convicted already. The Republicans are little more than Trump's own Rubber Stamp Reischtag these days :(
1
Those two things aren't mutually exclusive. The real question is, going forward what do we do with a 30% of our electorate who have clear tendencies towards racism, ethnonationalist violence, concentration camps, undermining democracy, etc? These people are mostly Boomers who were raised by the same America that they're now hell-bent on destroying, and the values they espouse now are not what they were raised believing. So what do we do with them? At best they're misinformed, at worst they're traitors.
1
I could not agree more with this sentiment. Do you love your country and do you want to help make it a better place?
1
@atrociousconsequences4432 Wish I knew the answer to that one. As it is now, more than 50% of all super PAC money comes from just 40 individuals. We've got the best modern feudalism that money can buy :(
1
The excuses are by now getting worn smooth from overuse .. "it's full of radical leftists" (not a crime, and no proof ever offered, of course) .. "it's too woke" (also not a crime, also no proof offered) .. and so on.
1
Do you need to ask? Trump/Musk running the USA is like when Gordon Gekko and Bud Fox call up the management of Bluestar Airlines and say something like, "We're from the government and we're here to help ourselves to whatever you've got."
1
Won't be just one day. Hoax News has been keeping the bubbas on "boil" for awhile now.
1
As we in the US are finding out now, those separate branches of government don't mean much when there's an authoritarian cult leader on the throne and those other branches are currently run by members of the supreme leader's cult. And this is why Republicans are saying nothing as the country gets wrecked. They're in on it.
1
@topcheese2889 Masked & vaxxed. Best we should all stay that way until they give the all-clear.
1
The new rules make it clear that, while many places are reopening, you are free to continue wearing a mask, distancing, avoiding crowds, avoiding indoors public settings, etc. If you have doubt in the efficacy of the vaccines, please feel free to do those things.
1
@GoldenRetrievers4President Dear Lordy, do you folks get all your misinformation from the same bad sources? Wearing a mask protects you AND protects others who you might accidentally infect. Doesn't prevent it entirely but greatly cuts the risks both ways.
1
@GoldenRetrievers4President I would rather we all continue wearing masks and all get vaccinated, so that when cases drop down to rural Australian levels they can give the all-clear. Those are the things that will push new-case rates to near zero. But some people apparently don't want that :(
1
@GoldenRetrievers4President Exactly on the mask use! Last winter we all greatly reduced the spread of seasonal flu just by wearing masks. In Asian societies it's perfectly normal to wear a mask for those reasons, or even just because you feel like it. I have grown to like mine since it's been a year or more now of not being told to smile.
1
@MakeCentsOfThat Just as during the time when AH reigned in Germany, gullible people are the devil's helpers.
1
Bingo. Almost certainly, very few of them realize that a vacuum of authority would be a very very bad situation. With the numbers of guns in circulation in the US, almost certainly it would be local warlords trying to do their thing. These fools might suddenly find that the cost of a vanload of canned food and toilet paper is their youngest daughter.
1
@karenwhite9989 The budgets for the former social security program, the former department of education, the former FDA, etc, could be used.
1
Fox snooze is good at finding people who want to feel as if they've been victimized somehow.
1
@jamescraig4719 Were you proud of Ohio when the 10yo raped girl had to go out of state to get an abortion? If yes, go seek mental help.
1
To be fair, Trump DID promise to run the USA like one of his own businesses. Looks like he's delivering on the promise.
1
I'm assuming that the unvaccinated will get Raptured by some strange new variant of covid-19 that's breeding somewhere in Greater Idaho (aka Lesser Montana, aka Trumpland, aka Jeebusland). They will leave us their stuff, their jobs, their businesses. Thank you!!! :)
1
Re "You might not like Trump but you know he would have fixed the supply chain issue" << Sure. Just like he fixed the covid thing (he made it worse) and just like he fixed the deficit thing (he made it worse).
1
It would be nice if the legislative branch could do its job (you know, the constitutional duties we pay them for and give them lifetime healthcare for) but nooooo, too many are delusional cult members.
1
Did you forget the sarcasm tags?
1
@richardporter6201 Excellent.
1
Explain to us please the roles of Manchin and Sinema in the simplistic scheme you're describing. Take all the time you need.
1
It would be more correct to call Trumpism a death cult, although for sure Hair Fuhrer will be in deep trouble when the ICC gets onto the involuntary sterilization of some Hispanics and presumably the involuntary incineration of others.
1
It's funny how quickly things change. Now, when you drive past a big group of people standing together, socializing, you think, my God, they're all risking dying from infection. You want to get out of the car and yell at them to get away from each other.
1
@RSW552 Thank you kindly! Stay safe :)
1
Samsung McKone Which of the 60+ upstream comments are you replying to? This thread is about a month old.
1
gregory williams If the jackboot fits, Trump's people need to slide it on and start goose-stepping. Hat tip to Beau for that line.
1
Samsung McKone Thanks for the explanation! It's become even more clear with McConnell's patent hypocrisy on confirming SCOTUS picks. 8 months before an election was much too soon to hold a hearing for Merrick Garland, but 6 weeks before an election is plenty of time to hold a hearing for Amy Barrett. Republicans seem to think they're above the law.
1
The last 5 years has revealed that our system of checks and balances is no more integral than the people running it. With the senate leader, the Supreme Corp, the DOJ, and other federal agencies in the back pocket of a greasy president, there's apparently no limit to the damage he can do.
1
Unfortunately you've already got places like Idaho-istan and eastern Oregon salivating at the jackboot to make abortion unavailable ASAP. It seems unlikely that they'll stop with that - a simple perusal of their cult leader's archived tweets implies that in some places, immigrants might get hunted down, Blacks might not get to eat at the same lunch counter again (except on the 5th Sunday of the month), the local Y'all Quaida types will be removing what they deem "inappropriate material" from the school curriculum .. these people want to go back to the Dark Ages with a passion :(
1
Knowing this makes me want to have a conversation with someone about white balance and upping the brightness right on the camera to fix some of the visual aspects.
1
I for one am not counting on any hypothetical fed-up military folks. Fox plays 24/7 at military bases.
1
It's a good thing these crazies weren't around when polio was a problem, otherwise there would have been more millions of dead and crippled Americans from the last outbreak.
1
They are firmly against "woke" concepts such as freedom and justice for all. Not counting on that kind to wake up.
1
Trump reassured everyone yesterday that it's safe to fly .. but someone who now tests positive for covid-19 was able to visit the hotspot in Kirkland WA then hop on a jet to North Carolina, potentially exposing hundreds along the way. (How many others visited the hotspot then traveled elsewhere?) Trump went on to say that the WHO's death rate numbers are fake news, implied that it's just like a cold, implied it's OK to go to work etc etc.
1
@larryross1819 Sure. And Donald Trump, a US president, made the claim that windmills cause cancer. Just because you say stuff doesn't automatically make that stuff true. Duh.
1
@patdoyle2003 Correct. The ones screeching for civil war don't seem to imagine that not everyone wants the country burned down just to appease the hurt feelings of the 2020 election loser.
1
His father probably listened to all the wrong people for medical advice .. Bob Enyart, Tucker Carlson, Phil Valentine, Dick Farrel, Marc Bernier, etc .. most of which have already been inhumed.
1
@Dstrbrdgrnd They'd stomp it flatter than week dead road kill.
