  2. Amen ... no one sings in a human voice any more. It's been more than the last decade. In the 80's and New Wave everyone sang in a nasally twang. I can't stand popular music any more. They all sound like whiny kids whining.

  4. Yeah, but that is also true of the good things said about a lot of artists. Look around on You-Tube at how many songs that are posted from artists where people in the comment section are always ... musical genius, best musician that ever lived, etc. True or not?? ;-)

  7. First thing came to mind was The Beatles, Abbey Road, The End ??? Ooooh, lots of stuff I never heard before ... I'm getting' old. Mark Craney played with Jethro Tull ... didn't he die, all the way back in 1981 :-( Oh, and speaking of Jethro Tull there is some awesome drum fills in the into to "No Lullabye" off the Heavy Horses album. YAY ... Keith Moon !!!! ... and WOW, perfect guitar on Stairway To Heaven!

  8.  @cathyglenwilken8062  Ian may want them and ask them to, but they never do. Live performances always sound like big band music or something, not the semi-religious tone that the album projects. Another great John Evan keyboard performance was the By Kind Permission of on the Living In The Past double ablum set. I really miss that incarnation of Jethro Tull, today is such a shallow reproduction.

  20. HEY RICK, I love your channel, though it often goes over my head technically like this with the music theory, but ... Can you do a "What Makes This Song Great" on the 1971 Jethro Tull song "My God" from the Aqualung album? 1. There is a brilliant acoustic guitar intro by Ian Anderson. 2. There is a groundbreaking and raucous and as far as I know unique guitar solo by Martin Barre at about the 3:00 mark and then another near the end of the song. 3. And that leads into the use of Plainsong/Gregorian Chant ... in a fucking Rock Song ? 4. The bass is powerful and strong ... hope I am not sounding like Donald Trump on that. 5. The vocal phrasing of the lyrics is really moving. That is an amazing piece of music, not to mention the Progressive aspect of it, and that it has an actual point/message. Hard to find a better or more meaningful song to give a close look at historically, eh? ;-) ( I think I am going to have to watch this video about 10 times so I can begin to understand harmony - not the same as counterpoint, right? )

  22.  @DavidSmith-ss1cg  It would be nicer if you would not start off trying to pigeonhole me into something I didn't say, or even if I did say that ... no one likes that and it is just a sign of being offensive. If you like Zappa's music, fine. I don't imply all kinds of things about you and try to vilify you. The problem with our society is everywhere at all levels. It is not the writer, it is the audience he was given the impression is listening to him, or his invalid moods or life experience, yes - the editor, and even the people who read it. It's not the end of the world. Maybe at some point people will stop being so dramatic, sarcastic, and learn to figure out what they really have to say and how to express it without having bothering people be their main goal. Personally, I don't particularly like the mix of bothersome lyrics mixed in with even the most brilliant music. It might seem cool the first few things you hear it, but it gets annoying. The way we are going there is not going to be anything remembered in 200 years anyway. Maybe that is good because if the songs of today are not forgotten the ancestors and copyright holders will still be suing people like Rick for even mentioning their great-great-great-great-great--great grandparents IP.

  29. Speaking of .... Jethro Tull / Ian Anderson has been going constantly since 1968 and after releasing a new album last year about this time is releasing a new album come April. Great music. I notice people asking about Tull ... can you do a video or song about Jethro Tull / Ian Anderson, or at least explain why the neglect?

Funny, but I do notice that a lot of Italians really like this song. I think many Italians have had love affairs with girls named Angie, and it makes them wax sentimental.

Rick ... if you even see this, you talk about how bands are disappearing here, but you are ignoring a super-group that has released 3 excellent new albums in the space of almost as many years, Jethro Tull. In 2025, as of March 7th they released "Curious Ruminant" which I would think someone with your grasp of music and sound engineering would appreciate. Then back three years was "RökFlöte" and "Zealot Gene". And then before that going on 70 years of great music from Ian Anderson and his band Jethro Tull. What is the problem with mentioning a JT song now and then, or highlighting an album that after 55 years has released 24 best-selling studio albums, and some solo albums? Not to mention former lead guitarist Martin Barre who is one of the best guitarists in the industry ... look up "Trio Instrumental" live improvisation, and all his lead parts in JT. Where is the love for a great rock band, Jethro Tull?

  47. Is it a coincidence that the Cars sound so much technically like the Police. They both had a really distinctive sound, and lots and lots of hits and even the songs that were not hits were good in and in brand ... and then when that time was passed, and virtually no one was listening any more they both dumped all their songs onto must have compilation albums that were great and reasonably priced to?
