Where was all this concern about change, when the courts just declared they could overturn any law they disliked, decided anyone had standing, and issued the dictate that no elected member of government could defy advisors, that had been thrust upon them? What would be best would be, to restore the balance of power to that of before Aharon Barak started abrogating the parliament's power to govern. And the pre-negotiation bill didn't even go that far.

  8. How are the building codes? I grew up in southern California, right on the San Andreas fault. All our buildings had to follow a strict building code. I've been in some pretty big earthquakes, once riding out a 6.5 quake on the 33nd floor of a huge office building. The building swayed, like a flagpole in a severe wind, but there was no damage. I was always taught the safest place to be, is in a door frame. But, if building codes are subpar, that might not be true.

  21. It isn't just the Reform and Reconstructionist movements, that have done away with the medieval practice of forbidding kol isha. Conservative Jews are also egalitarian. And, further, if Israel was more tolerant of nonorthodox Judaism, and gave it the same support it does the orthodox synagogues, she would discover fewer citizens would be secular. Many Israelis are also turned off by the misogyny of orthodoxy, but would be willing to pray if families could be together. BTW The orthodox should realize many Jews are repulsed by the mechitza, by the Kotel, which didn't exist for most of history.

  23. As interim PM, Lapid doesn't have the power to make treaties. And, also, any concession of land or assets require a public referendum. I'm assuming, that Lapid plans on making illegal concessions, because he is ignorant of the law. After all, he didn't even graduate high school, so maybe he never took a civics class. Since any concession he makes, is illegal for an interim PM to do, the next real PM has the right to discard any illegal agreement he makes.

  44. I believe the bill would have required ankle monitors for accused domestic abusers, which does not fit with the presumption of innocence. Mere accusation is not conviction. Also, as most domestic violence is in the arab sector, the bill was unrealistic. The police can't even enforce laws about illegal possession of weapons, in that sector of the populace, how could they enforce monitoring?
