Here's another airplane story idea: The crashes of Lockheed L-188 Electra turboprop airliners, which were later determined to be caused by "prop whirl flutter" {or whatever it's called}....

FWIW: I have long wondered if the F-86 Saber could actually go Mach 1 {albeit in a dive}. I have never heard a definitive answer to that question until watching this video.

Great video, HG...π

@TheHistoryGuyChannel >>> Can you do a video on BARRAGE KITES used in WWII, such as those created by an American named Harry Sauls? ALSO: You have previously done at least one video about military observation balloons used by the Union during the American Civil War. I have READ that supposedly man-lifting or man-carrying KITES were used by one or both sides during the American Civil War for battlefield observation, same as balloons. Such kites existed before AND after that war, but I do not know if it is ever been PROVEN they were actually used in that conflict.

By posting this comment I do not mean to directly criticize the idea behind this aerial bombing campaign. That said, the downside to staging a bombing campaign designed to demoralize the enemy into surrendering is if your senior government leaders and military resemble the word "fanatical" -- the likes of which the world had never seen part of the 20th century -- the effectiveness becomes less definitive. In the case of Nazi Germany it took the suicide of that country's leader. In the case of Imperial Japan, it took an incendiary carpet bombing campaign AND THEN TWO A-BOMBS to get the desired result.

This case is vaguely similar to the Eastern Airlines Lockheed L-1011 night time crash near Miami, Florida in the early 1970s. The flight deck crew had a faulty landing gear indication. They got so fixated on that problem that did not notice they had unintentionally entered a very gradual descent. The crew noticed something was wrong with the altitude just before the aircraft impacted the ground in the Florida Everglades.

FWIW: I was born & raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. {My parents were originally from Indiana.} While I drank orange juice as a kid, I do not recall ever actually eating oranges. At least not until I was a teenager.
