Not really, if it was low cost then most of currently produced hydrogen would not come from natural gas. Sea water is salty, duh, and for electrolysis you generally want as clean water as possible to avoid damaging your equipment with all that stuff which remains after it. Is it doable? Yea, kind of, but not really. Its like desalination could be a thing to provide fresh water, but by product of that is brine, which is, well, quite damaging to environment.

Really weird comment. Yes, you could produce hydrogen, but like, to produce hydrogen you need electricity and you need more of that than you would need to simply charge your car.

@Resomius I would be more than happy if hydrogen worked as viable option, sadly more you read about it less viable it becomes in your eyes. It's just surrounded by soooooo many issues that it's ridiculous. Like for example one of the biggest issues is hydrogen embrittlement, basically metals in contact with hydrogen will lose their structural integrity over time, this is why all hydrogen tanks in cars have expiration date printed on them, which is like 5-7 years. Powering your car with fuel produced from water sounds extremely good, this is why news papers usually put titles like "car powered by water" or something nonsensical like that. But it just doesn't work. Best case would be to use it for bigger equipments, like ships, planes, trains, semi, which would have their own dedicated refueling stations with production plants near them and have their own in house repair to lower costs of maintenance, but its non starter for regular passenger cars.

Because laws of physics... Will simplify it here, you need around 2kg of hydrogen to make 1kg of hydrogen, and no, these numbers are not backwards. You would literally need double the battery size to travel half the distance of what it actually could do if you simply used its power directly. EVERYONE who claims to have water powered car is lying.

Because there is 0% of hydrogen in its pure form on earth, so that means 100% of it is being produced and any production requires power and power requires power production plant of some sorts, so like, how?

Regular gas tank gets to like 3000psi, hydrogen one goes to 10000. Do you see tiny difference here? And hydrogen is extremely flammable and explosive in certain conditions, one of those is the pressure... So no, it is more dangerous... 10 is more than 3... By more than 3 times...

Toyota will go bankrupt in few years if they keep that "All into Hydrogen" nonsense... Hydrogen could be used in areas where energy density is more important, but that excludes regular cars, aka biggest market.

@Nisowyd People forget that you need to produce 100% of hydrogen as there is 0% of it in pure form on earth. Actual smart people did the actual research and calculate pollution done from END TO END and BEV's still came first as the lowest polluting, not by much in comparison to hydrogen, but still a cleaner solution. What you people keep forgetting is that most of the battery you can recycle, so once you mined the materials you can reuse those over and over again.

So please, provide a citation from a research which indicated that diesel cars are less polluting from END TO END than BEV's, because every single one I can find indicates opposite of what you are claiming. Its like just parroting some weird facebook post you seen once and never fact checked... If diesel cars have been actually more cleaner than BEV's or hydrogen cars, hell, how the hell would any activist survive this blow? Why doesn't big oil companies spread this enormous news with rest of the world?... We were (apparently) doing it all wrong, we don't need alternative fuels, we have cleanest of them all: diesel!!!...
