I would be more than happy if hydrogen worked as viable option, sadly more you read about it less viable it becomes in your eyes. It's just surrounded by soooooo many issues that it's ridiculous. Like for example one of the biggest issues is hydrogen embrittlement, basically metals in contact with hydrogen will lose their structural integrity over time, this is why all hydrogen tanks in cars have expiration date printed on them, which is like 5-7 years.
Powering your car with fuel produced from water sounds extremely good, this is why news papers usually put titles like "car powered by water" or something nonsensical like that. But it just doesn't work.
Best case would be to use it for bigger equipments, like ships, planes, trains, semi, which would have their own dedicated refueling stations with production plants near them and have their own in house repair to lower costs of maintenance, but its non starter for regular passenger cars.
