Mikimoto Pearls!

GF Fab10 supposed to open in China. The building was completed, Hired foreign Managers and Engineers and some tools were installed. But suddenly stop for unknown reason. Just make a wild guess why.
4
I guess: SoxalAir Liquid or...?
4
NS assembly plants were not just in Singapore before. They do have one in Cebu, Philippines and still have in Penang, Malaysia.
4
@Erin-Thor DEC is Compaq isn’t it?
4
Well, you nailed it like an insider of GF. It's not wise to put up a fab in Abu Dhabi due to the factors you mentioned in the video.

Every society is 3 rice bowls away from chaos. -Lenin

Thanks again for this wonderful historical account about Olivetti!
4
@Henning_Rech Sir, that's a bit sarcastic.
4
It seems U.A.E( Abu Dhabi Investment Group) ended up buying AMD Fabs and Chartered Semiconductor Mfg. To become GlobalFoundries. And later on bought IBM Microelectronics Fab.
4
In singapore some fab company schedule is same as tmsc. Some are 4 days work 3 days off and vice versa in a 12 hrs work in a day or night shift.
4
Employ migrants?
4
@glock7061 Why not apply to any EU countries that has wafer Fab mfg. if you really want.

I want the spicy chicken chop at Shilin Market!

I recommend AA!

Then: "From Sharp minds comes sharp products". Now: Sharp becomes Scrap Hopefully in the future: We're Sharp again!

Singapore has high myopic rate too. It starts from childhood, Primary achool level. Could it be because of too much reading and confinement to small space of the houses most of the time and lesser outdoor activities?
3
One of the practical drawback is power consumption and bulkiness.
3
On the other hand, an Ion Implant with an Implanter will be use after Film deposition. This time its Ion being deposited/doped in the trenches and in High Vacuum state and in numerous steps too. Litho->Film->Implant->Etch. Repeat until desired step is completed. Oops, I didn't put the clean or strip steps yet in between those steps as it depends on type of process required or designed.

How ironic that Sony and Phillips started the research of LCD screen in the 80s and now left behind by Samsung and LG.
3
Yeah , right. Handled a Pentium Chip sorter and Laser marker using a Schlumberger 28 years ago at Intel.
3
@johnsmith-cw3wo Yeah like previously for high tech firms, the condition to esblish the firm in China is to share/transfer the technology to them. But now I think its a hot issue due to piracy.
3
It is true that when machines are hard down at night, the Equipment Engineer at Asia(Taiwan/Singapore) is called back to follow up on the issue. - Poor dude. No work/life balance.
3
Their engines are not locally produced. A certain portion is locally made. Some cars are just copy of foreign cars. Example: NAZA. Their cars are copied from KIA. Proton started with Mitsubishi, then with Lotus, or even now copied from China branded cars.
3
Still have joint venture fab with GF. Rumors coming in...
3
I saw a Wirebonder!!
3
I remember the TTL: Transistor-Transistor Logic. We used it in our Logic Circuits Lab subject during college days. We use 7000s IC for our truth logic projects in a breadboard.

Nationalistic keyboard trolls might target this video topic and comments section.

Some Engineers or Technicians put the "charms" or a yellow paper with an inscription inside the tools.
2
That’s strange! My brother and my cousin brought me to a lot of Boba tea around LA and its counties a year ago!
2
On the other hand, I wonder why US wants Vietnam to be their center of Wafer fab design and manufactuing in South East Asia. Malaysia and Philippines were years ahead in these area compared to Vietnam.

In the 80s and 90s they were the leading edge or in parity with the western world in producing memory chips. They are also good in producing semiconductor assembly tools either in the wafer fab or in post wafer fab assemblies. I work earlier in a post assembly company where japanese tools are better than american tools. I.e. dicing tools: DISCO as against KNS. Wirebonding: Shinkawa and Kaijo Denki versus Kulicke and Soffa. On the other hand at wafer fabrication they are at parity with the western companies in the memories and discrete components from the 80s to early 2000s. During the early 2000s there were a lot of fab around the world that produces memories that oversupplied the market thus price collapses which slowly closes down a lot of memory fabs. You can count on your fingers and toes the present fabs that produces memory chips. Thus the Japanese leads in chip mfg. and post assembly tools production slowed down.

The MEITU image at 9:24 -9:30 is funny!
2
If the US do the same thing with Japan and now with China, they will have difficulty implementing it. China will force themselves to surpass US chip making technologies no matter what.

We're Asians! Don't correct us base on your culture. The information contents of his presentations is more useful than the linguistical juggernaut you are highlighting.

@gaussdog This one is a nerdy type of comment. 😁

Material Science, Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree will do.

The last Cray computer I've known is used for movie special effects. One example is The Last Starfighter!
2
hahaha. Its tapioca or cassava base pearls. Other countries use Sago.
2
You are lucky. You can apply for dual citizenship and avail of priviledges like SSS pension, Philhealth etc. Which is now a bone of contention for Filipinos who didn't go out ofthe country to work or migrate!
2
That Globalfoundries in Dresden was formerly AMD!
2
So in the end AMD and ATi have the second chance in 2010 when Abu Dhabi investment firm bought it. AMD fab was separated and became Glofo. Those fab I mentioned in New York and in Dresden together with the Fab in Singapore formerly Chartered Semiconductor.
2
So true.
2
Jon is really Photolitography centric.
2
@Wolf-yr1qy thank you, grammar teacher. I'm blaming the samsung spell and grammar check 😉
2
@think863 No need, communal terrorism is already there for more than 50 years!

Let there be light!
2
Me too. As that ube is prominent in my country.
2
@OmegaSparky FAB9? Eight inch? Old fab like GIGA+
2
Yeah, it's Post fab assembly, packaging and tests.
