If they don't want to be part of society, they should leave We know they won't though - they're happy of own big chunks of the country, and profit from them, but don't pay for the upkeep If they want to own everything, they need to pay to keep things running. Alternatively, give it back for us to fix and run Pick one though, because trying to cherry pick the best of both is literally collapsing the country!

  7. At least there was a naive logic to the economic backtracking - definitely naive though, as it requires ignoring a lot of evidence and economic precedent. Nobody has ever fixed an austerity-ravaged economy with slightly milder austerity! This pledge is just straight-up turning Tory though...

  14. I am going to vote LibDem. They stand a good chance of winning here, and while they are mostly indistinguishable from Labour, at least the LibDems are openly calling for electoral reform!

  15. I hope Jamie Driscoll wins, and the Labour executive realise how short-sighted they are It's true that we can't beat the Tories without Labour, but I fear we haven't beaten the Tories if we get Starmer. He's just more austerity and more privatisation

  22. Low in the short term, but should this succeed it's going to cut through a lot of apathy. People will see ordinary people can make a difference, and that could grow into something very positive indeed!

  24. Honestly, don't do it. Go for a bare minimum confidence and supply in return for Proportional Representation. Leave them as a minority government if they won't Anything deeper will just get you tarred with the same brush as Labour, and hurt in the long run

People who are members, and have a community inside the party need to keep pushing against this leadership Outside the party, we need to back the Greens where we can, the LibDems where the Greens can't cut through, and indeed back anyone else who can break up the two party system They really are openly being nothing more than controlled oposition at this point, so we need to oppose the whole two party stitch-up!

  39. I am glad to see the end of NHS England - it was a management layer preparing the ground for privatisation All someone would need to to is stop funding NHS England through taxes, and set up an insurance department - instant management team for a privatised health care system 🙁

  44. The Lords could have blocked it on the grounds that it bypassed the commons, thus asserting the primacy of the commons. Add a statement making it clear they will not oppose the bill if properly debated and voted in the commons and everything's golden

  48.  @ricado372  this is the beauty of Jamie Driscoll standing for Mayor - if he succeeds, we've sent a clear message to Starmer and the Labour leadership that there are voters out there who are sick of austerity, and we are getting ever more organised and effective If it doesn't work, it's had minimal impact on the national party - Jamie isn't setting up a rival that will split the general election vote If you don't want the Tories to win, but have concerns about Starmer's direction, this is the chance to act! Support Jamie Driscoll, with money if you can afford it, and by spreading the word. There is an alternative to austerity, and if Jamie Driscoll wins in Tyneside, Starmer might finally listen! Even if Starmer doesn't, at least my old school friends get a great Mayor 🙂
