the human vote!

@MCDONALD6969 so you're saying 35.6% of workers need to be paid more?
1
@MCDONALD6969 that for 35.6% of workers, their pay is so low, it doesn't even hit the threshold to pay tax. That sounds like they are underpaid to me
1
@MCDONALD6969 let's contextualise low-skill - does it add value to the organisation?
1
@MCDONALD6969 is that true? We seem to have a never-ending recruitment issue in many low paid sectors - care, especially
1
He's missed his chance - Starmer has a queue of loyalists to reward first...

We definitely need change, although that's not the way I'd recommend - if Jim and John form the New Neo Not Fascist Honest Party, should they get funding? Clearly not, but how do you exclude them without excluding the Greens? Two ideas worth considering are tying funding to the votes gained last time - excludes extremists, but gives a small party reason to call for votes even if they're not going to win The other is to set aside a pot of public money, and each registered citizen can donate it to a political party or a registered charity In both cases, no donations allowed outside of that system Both exclude extremists, while also excluding megadonors. Shame the big two will never support a change of system...
1
Of course "Take back control" isn't done - the real "Take back control" was a Tory dictatorship controlling all of us...
1
Petra De Sutter, Deputy PM of Belgium, has called for sanctions on Isreal I am glad somebody in office has finally said it!
1
What makes a good candidate? We know what Labour doesn't value It doesn't value popularity with the membership It doesn't value electability with the public It doesn't value trade union backing It doesn't value people with a proven record of creating jobs and improving the economy of their area It does love people who hang around with hedge funds and right wing press barons though 🤔
1
I suspect it will be Streeting taking over - unless he also doesn't get elected 🤔
1
It weren't the left that started the purges and burned the bridges
1
It's not subliminal...
1
@elisabethohagan9089 even if it was accidental, it does remind me that a lot of them are sick in the head!
1
They are both going to be cliched and boring - this will be one of the most disinterested and apathetic elections ever There's a real chance for smaller parties to make an impact if they make positive noises in suitable places!
1
@skyblaze eterno I can't see a single issue party working for PR, but a coalition of parties outside the big two, plus unaligned activists already exists. It's a question of how organised we can be, and how well the inter-party diplomacy is managed Not trivial problems, but the urgency and commitment is only growing
1
@sirmeowthelibrarycat I guess you'd have to fabricate a person who doesn't exist, so you get a double payment Sounds a lot harder than fudging yourself up a category or two in the current beurocracy!
1
@britnatzaredemocracydenier5922 for me, they have one job. Surely they can manage one thing?
1
YouTube is odd about links, but if you Google Jamie Driscoll you'll find links to the Go Fund Me 🙂
1
It commonly happens on smaller channels. Now they are getting massively ratioed on bigger channels, they are trying their luck on smaller ones... Which brings traffic and boosts smaller channels up. Oops? 😁
1
That's what communities should do for the people who will be our future
1
I've learned. I remember Blair. The Labour Party are now just the Good Cop Thatcherites to give people a false sense of security for a bit before the Bad Cop Thatcherites put the squeeze on again Can you tell me anything Blair did that wasn't undone within Cameron's first term in office?
1
Reeves is going to tax them more than Hunt did, but not enough to stop wealth inequality accelerating
1
Which fossil fuel company do you own?
1
Right now, the risk of collapse is baked in, any policy has to be built on the crumbling foundations of weak productivity and overinflated assets We need investment from somewhere, and we clearly don't get productive investment from the current system. Continuity is the most dangerous thing we can do right now! What do you suggest we do to fix our current economic situation?
1
But if Streeting Prime is put in charge of the Streeting Clones, they would be Streeting's Streetings. Scary thought 😳
1
@stevebrooks9119 the policy says the public is carrying the risk, but private interests take the rewards Here we go again 🙁
1
@Lee_303 people like Johnson and Sunak have assistants to deal with mundanities like bank cards!
1
@Adam Morgan I think there's a lot of overlap between the anti-Corbyn movement and the Just Trust Starmer types. It's very much like a cargo cult - they assume that if they have a boring, undramatic leader, then we will automatically have a boring, undramatic economy and society We know it doesn't work like that though! If you try and wallpaper over real problems, the problems just grow bigger. Blind faith Starmerism is going to let inequality and deprivation fester and grow 🙁
1
If work is good for you, then Liz Kendall can go break rocks til she gets better!
1
There is a difference between the current Tories and Starmer's Labour, just like there's a difference between the current Tories and the Cameron/Osborne Tories
1
@DeanJuvenal I doubt it would get any publicity - the media are very good at turning a blind eye! That doesn't matter if you're going directly to the voters in his constituency - bypasses the media completely 😁
1
@paulies5407 not what Dawn Butler said, try again...
1
@jamescooke6032 I wouldn't work in Maccies, but I would do a few shifts in the local pub or cafe if it has a nice crowd of regulars Where you work, and who you work with will be more important than how much you get paid. It would fundamentally change how businesses compete for staff
1
There's a lot wrong with banking, but I don't think the reform process should be driven by Nigel's need for a fancy bank...
1
@mrbubbles6468 you can't read anything into Starmer not answering questions. He's always flaky in interviews He could be asked what he had for breakfast and still give a flaky, fence sitting answer!
1
Being "the best since" is not the same as "good"
1
My hand slipped and I ended up voting Green instead. Oh dear, so sad, never mind 😁
1
I had a nice chat with the Labour activist on my door - I think there's more chance that they'll campaign for Green next time than I'll vote Labour though 🙂
1
Tory Party would never allow it. How can the Tories blame Labour if they were in government with them?
1
@b00ts4ndc4ts we just need a spare million! I'll check down the back of my sofa. If you do the same, maybe we'll find enough between us 😝
1
Wes absolutely is who he is. There's no bandwagon Streeting won't be first to jump onto!
1
@tonyfraser1749 but isn't democracy all about choices? What's the point of different parties if their policies are the same, and only the colour of the rosettes changes?
1
@madeleineswords704 I hear that statue needs a lot of cleaning 😉
1
@jocosson8892 strictly, the cheques aren't the QE, true But you're doing QE to increase liquidity, and presumably you want that liquidity to flow somewhere Australia's somewhere worked better than ours did
1
@jocosson8892 now you're mixing up source and destination! QE is one way to source money, eg as an alternative to a windfall tax. The OP was concerned that all QE is bad, and my point is it depends. Partly on how strong the economy is, but mostly on what you do with the money once it's available
1
@jocosson8892 this is getting a bit silly Obviously a one-off payment isn't a universal income!
1
@jocosson8892 QE is the central bank buying bonds and similar assets from the government so the government has liquid capital That's it. The definition doesn't put any constraint on what the money is used for. You could QE to fund helicopter cheques, or QE to subsidise oil firms If the money came from the central bank buying bonds etc from the government, it's QE
1
Isn't that what Daily Mail columnist fees are?
1
@bestcomsystems4458 Iran used to be on a path to a liberal secular society - read up on PM Mossaddegh Then the CIA happened, because for all their talk of freedom and democracy, Oil is more important to America than liberty is The CIA created the current theocratic Iran, so it's a bit cheeky when America complains about how modern Iran acts!
