  4. That is also true in Singapore. But "they" will tell you money is not the factor. Yea, it is not the cash. It is other things. If you have 3 kids a car is simply better, despite perfect public transport. If you want to go on holiday pay 3 times. Clothes, going out to eat, the size of the house . . . everything gets expensive. Normal earners would think twice.

I gather it is acting more than apologising. In Asia wifes blame mostly the other woman, almost never the husband. Don't ask me why, I know it's weird.

  13. The Singapore government does not take the number of the IQ as a benchmark. They take the point of view, that the awareness about the seriousness of the crime should be the benchmark. If it was practice people with low IQ numbers to be spared, then criminal elements might use this as a loop-hole. I am not pro-death penalty. But everyone knows that this a crime punished with the death penalty here. So, why still do it?

  17. Borat's film Kazakhstan has nothing to do with the real Kazakhstan, and I always knew that. The jokes are just too crude, and satire elements too exaggerated. I believe that everyone with a little brain inside would understand that this is never meant as anything real. The people of Kazakhstan should not think that any halfway educated person believes this is the country. And those who do, I think there is no need for bothering about them.

  19.  @CrabTastingMan  The most underdeveloped areas in West-Germany were better off than the entire GDR. West-Germany was and Germany is much more balanced developed, than say for example the US. Compare the NY region to the Appalachian region. I have been to East German right before the actual reunification. I was shown around in workplaces, hospitals, was taken to several houses of people, etc.. The worst I ever saw in my life was the pollution of a river called Sale, and the brown-coal mining around Bitterfeld. Against that the West-German mining was almost a holiday resort. They were not really poor materialistically, they did have everything. From starvation like Nk there was of course nothing. In the end it was still a Germany, therefore they did better compared to the other communist states. But man, they knew to party!

  20. South Koreans can usually hear immediately, if someone is from the North. They can understand eachother, but the language has changed after being separated for 60 years.

  23. I know Americans - well most Americans - are not much interested in the world. But I was disappointed seeing that video here. Except probably Nigeria all countries asked for are relevant countries. They can operate the phones blindfolded but have a hard time identifying Brazil, one of the biggest countries in the world. And even Nigeria should not have been a real problem for young Chinese, as that's the country their government has invested most. Which shows me they are not interested.

So many children in the world need books, paper and pencils to learn. So many children don't have clean water to drink. So many old people have nobody to care for them.   27. Physical presence has nothing to do with productivity. It is a common misconception everywhere in Asia. It is not possible to work 12 h every day with high intensity for longer term I doubt even 8 h of high intensity work are possible on long term. High intensity is more like 4 - 6 h per day, for the rest you still work but try to fill it with lesser demanding tasks. And that is what a good productive day would be like.

An advanced civilization requires the vast majority of it's members to do the right decisions, and do it out of free will. Not because a point system or an exceedingly harsh punishment system requires them to do good. That is not being "good".

That mistake that you are doing is exactly the mistake Singapore does. 55 years of strict rules, harshest fines, cameras everywhere ... as soon as the government turns its back, the beating of the red light, or also the pissing into the corner will continue. It all had and has no effect on improving people's behavior. There was a movie, something like a semi-real documentation, showing an experiment that was done. The experiment was really done, but not on an entire nation. They just interpolated the outcome to a nation. They did not give the people a choice anymore to be good or bad, it was a must to be good. They prescribed everything they have to do. The outcome was a community of people who gave up on own thinking, creativity, intelligence. Does that remind you of something? What is a big problem in China? I worked in China, I know what.

  36.  @FergusScotchman  I was even in the GDR several times, and then again about 8 months after re-unification. The people in the East were not poor in the sense of having nothing much. Everybody had enough, and usual daily life was not that bad at all ... in opposite to many other countries behind the iron wall. However, as someone else above explained, the process of unification was a partially pretty painful one, and is still not completely closed. And it was not only some internal problems with the unification. Other countries used recklessly our resulting weakness in economical areas, and that we had to put focus towards the east for so many years. The difference 40 years created in between the 2 Germanys was remarkable, I was never aware that people are changing so much in 40 years. The differences in between the 2 Koreas are even much starker.

Government wants everybody to feel like a Singaporean ... and then come up with this non-factual and undesirable nonsense. And about this video, honestly, it's bullshxt. Why ask only people of one ethnicity? For Singapore an integration of Taiwan into China would be extremely bad, actually for the power balance of entire Asia. There is no neutral stance to it possible.

  39. I do not agree with the tenor that there is no racism in the US. The Japanese exhibit racist traits, because other races are unfamiliar to them. Just like two villages with different languages, people are insecure about the unknown. Every second American has to say some degrading things about dark skin or Hispanic people, and what they say they confident, with a loud voice.

  40.  @ayrenbethancourt9379  Compared, Singapore has no racism. I would not say that everyone is equal here, Chinese Singaporeans are bit more equal, perhaps. But direct racism is close to non-existent and the vast majority of people wish nothing else than to live together in peace with everyone. The government has done a good job with this subject.

Sure, the rural areas or some of them also have been benefitting from development., but different. I wish China to develop and it's people to be happy. But on 24. October 2017 you made a big mistake.

  48. The living conditions in NK have improved dramatically after the new, young king was throned. In the capital many people now enjoy a humble middle class life. On the countryside life is still hard and people don't have much, but there is no more famine. I have a feeling this man is up to change things. But that takes time and sensible actions. Go and stretch out your hands, give it a new chance, please.
