They love him because he caused a franchise to fall.

This hotel would've succeeded if they didn't let Kathleen botch the sequels like that.

Even just a single afternoon at a coffee shop outlining the three movies in the broadest way possible on simple pen and paper would've avoided this.

Their Star Wars movies suck, I hate what they have done to it. But I'm not going to fault them for trying something as intricate as this ride. They could've gone for a tried and trusted system that wouldn't be innovate anything but instead they tried to up their game. It seems to be that cart-inside-a-simulator part at the end that gives the most trouble which makes sense as there's so many things that need to work well in order for that to be safe. I'm sure they'll eventually work out the kinks.

Rian also ignored the most interesting leads from TFA. Finn being a defector was reduced to a one-liner he threw at Phasma and that was the end of it. Maz was a big piece of the puzzle and didn't exist. Hux being an ambitious young leader in competition with Kylo turned into a complete buffoon. And why on earth did he have to to start TLJ minutes after TFA concluded? He could've timeskipped years and that by itself would already have advanced the plot more than the entire movie ever did.

Derelict sites can be private property as well.

It doesn't really matter anyway. Mad Max Fury Road was a big success and it's promo was marred with rumors about Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron not being able to get along on set.
3
The Dark Crystal got cancelled on a cliffhanger, the day after it won an Emmy, so there's that.
3
Which says a lot about 2019 sadly.

They're not unique. Look at Blizzard. Books will be written about the era of low interest rates.

@amaxamon The story is a simple treasure hunt which in its turn was an excuse to push the characters through a variety of typical Star Wars settings doing Star Wars stuff at which Disney's massive budget could be thrown at. I wish they would have taken their time with specific locations, like the festival and the mountain village but clearly all of that is time that Rian Johnson stole away from JJ Abrams.

"They fly now" 9/11/2001 colorized. Never forget.

Killing the bad guy halfway, or even at the start is interesting if it's planned that way. In a way Game of Thrones has the bad-guy (Mad King Aerys) killed over a decade before the story started leaving the rest of the characters picking up the pieces of the giant mess he left behind. Killing the main threat halfway into the story without any plan or intention to do something interesting with it is a crime against story telling.
2
That would be an improvement. But even that is a tired trope that has already been exhausted by shows like Westworld, The 100, Altered Carbon and a whole bunch of others I have suppressed memories of.
2
Collectibles are only fun if they're not deliberately designed as collectibles. Funko-pop is kitschy trash.
2
Batman v Superman is why Justice League flopped. TLJ is why Solo flopped. The hit comes always on the next release.
2
So glad Dune 2 didn't get caught up in this. The rest is fine, I don't care.
2
Rian was very clear on this. Her parent don't matter. You can't make such a big deal about that only to walk it back in the next movie.
2
She should put on a burqa, that would truly liberate her from the male gaze.

92 years. Metropolis was a female led sci fi. Brigitte Helm played both Maria and the machine
2
The original Star Wars movies and the prequels never used flashbacks but the new trilogy hinges on them. They can't even stick to the classic format.
2
Before writing an article Scot Mendelson first has a thorough brainstorm session and several focus groups on how to ragebait youtubers the hardest.

@Raximus3000 Incompetent idiots would be tolerable but these people hate the material they're writing for.

Taking the bait literally is your own business model.

I would whip out better merch than that within an afternoon.
2
On the plus side none of the merch spoiled it.

Don't conflate dyslexia with being illiterate.

Yes, Ron and Hermoine are what makes the Harry Potter movies work. Now imagine Harry spending all of this time away from Ron and Hermoine and you have The Last Jedi plot.
2
Women don't like other women. They rather like watching Jason Mamoa in Aquaman which conversely is something men enjoy watching as well.
2
What about the Torchwood rumors? Seems like the only way the BBC can salvage the whoniverse is through Torchwood. But at this point I'm confident they'll ruin that as well.
2
I'm against test screenings, period. Focus groups are the reason Hollywood has gotten so bland.
2
"It's false... all of it."

Fisting your golden goose.

I wouldn't want movies to be constrained in their visuals so a fair warning is the best way to deal with this sort of thing.

What's next? DLC?

In Dune, Alia Artreides is the biggest Mary Sue and it works because she's not the protagonist.

Classic Nintendo. Boost a collector's edition console or two right before announcing their new hardware.

SJW's didn't care about comics until they realised the big blockbuster movies could impact culture.

All those toxic fans and their hate for Rogue One, or was it Rogue One? Or maybe some other Star Wars movie, anyway, these fans are toxic for sure.

I'm a vegetarian, and I love eating virtual fishing, hunting, cooking and eating of meat. The whole point of gaming is that you get to experience different lifestyles.

Every crisis has a silverlining.

I've got to hand it to TheMarySue, it's a clever observation. I don't mind it at all but credit for pointing out the pattern.

You can always turn the sheets inside out.

"Oh no please come back and let us pay you piles of money for writing trash..."

In a few years time the narrative will be that the trilogy failed because Rian didn't get a chance to finish the brilliant story that he started in TLJ but now he finally gets the chance to implement it.
1
Talk of sequels is just marketing. It's trying to hoodwink people into think the movie is successful and they could be missing the opportunity to part of the insider crowd that has been with this popular series of movies from the start.
1
"But there wasn't any source material!"

@Soldano999 finally some chemistry.

I do think Disney deserves credit for going all the way into an uncompromising immersive experience rather than trying to be just another themepark filled with replicas and substitutes. It's taken from historic theme parks where people go to pretend to be vikings, or romans or medieval peasants or even cavemen. That's cool but even those such parks have a ton of events and activities that aren't just a glorified shopping malls. I'm thinking about places were you can gamble or spectate robot pitfights. Or help artisans craft specific equipment. They went there with the droid and light sabre assembly but it should be less exclusive. Aside from that it's hard to truly separate the innovation from the blatant failure of the other moving pieces. It's not just that Batu is an unfamiliar place to old school Star Wars fans. It's also a place that isn't featured anywhere in the new movies. For comparison, Tatooine appears in four Star Wars movies. Batu in zero. Then there's the new trilogy being an abject failure if we're measuring it as a Star Wars product.
1
I don't get it. Why not just hire a handful of the biggest Star Wars nerds you can find and they'll keep churning out far more movie ideas than they would know what to do with.
