Like I said yesterday I wouldn't want to buy a first generation electric vehicle from a company that fired the engineers who designed it.

Funny that WV didn't warn about bankruptcy when the management team took the same raise that they workers are asking for today.

Monopoly markets set costs to maximize profits
28
I am thinking I don't want to buy the first model year electric F150 from a company that just fired 500 engineers. Some of them might have designed it.
26
It is hard for the ff industry to compete with renewable energy when those sources have zero operating cost from raw materials. The wind and sun don't send you a monthly raw materials bill. The ff industry does.
23
The issue I see with this projection is that it doesn't consider someone like BYD entering the US market. I think we will see a couple of chinese manufacturers replacing some of the other imports today.
15
The canoo pickup is cool because it has a nice bed with a small truck. If it has a 10,000lbs tow capacity it will sell very well.
14
Well I would be shocked if she lowered her compensation package to that level. But then she doesn’t think of her employees as equal humans who deserve a living wage and decent stand of living. If she did she would pay them at a level she would feel confident working for.
13
I would love to see it. But at this point it fall into the I will believe it when I see it.
13
When GM files bankruptcy the courts will rule that they need to be paid their bonuses along with a retention bonus to keep the needed talent as the company reorganizes. We have seen this before many times. The caplistist class always protects their own.
12
I like LFP I just wonder how long before CATL has replaced it with Sodium ion. The fact that CATL can make them on their existing production lines at 30% lower cost I suspect LFP will be short lived.
12
So far GM is leading from behind...
12
The production line is the same regardless of the chemistry used in the battery. They all have the same basic components. CATL has pointed that out by running Sodium ion batteries on their existing lines for lithium batteries. These new battery factories will just run LFP or Sodium Ion when the lines are powered up in a year or 18 months.
11
Think how much easier it would be to power such a small car off your own solar and be energy self sufficient. I love it. If it supported V2H technology with the tax credits I could literally see people buying one as a battery for off grid homes.
11
With that small a motor a solar roof and hod would actually provide a reasonable amount of range in a day.
11
Hopefully they are looking for LFP or sodium ion batteries
10
GM should have responded to the battery fires by saying they where going 100% LFP and would only use similar battery chemistries which are proven to not have a fire issue. It would have been a huge confidence builder for consumer safety.
10
It isn't scary it is good news for the American working class. GM cried they couldn't afford 9 billion over all the years of the new labor contract. Then before the ink is dry they announced 10 billion on stock buybacks this year alone. The UAW has won a victory for the working class in the on going class warfare and it didn't even cost GM their 10 billion annual stock buyback.
10
GM need less models and more production volume.
9
When this first happened GM should have sent Marry out there to say this is a safety issue and GM will be using LFP batteries to avoid the problem in the future. That any future battery technology would have to prove itself to be as safe as LFP before they would use it. The first manufacturer to state this fact will gain huge loyalty from those who follow the EV technology. Ironically it would have also lowered the cost of production.

2 front wheels and one rear wheel is very stable as the inertia is forward where you have the 2 wheels in a turn. I have drive them before in solar races back in the 90s. It was one of the most fun vehicles I have ever driven with the single seat in the center of the vehicle.
8
This has been the problem since the 1990s all companies push things out way too early chasing greed. It is the only reason we need software updates to everything sold. If the product was well tested the software would be stable
8
Wow it is amazing that China limits this to inverters when they make the chips for the vast majority of our phones and computers. Lol
8
I am waiting for the BYD pickup in the USA. I can't afford a Rivian
7
Hard to call Ford F150 first to market when Rivian has sold over 1000 EV Pickup trucks and ford has sold zero. Narrowing the focus to ignore startup companies is propaganda.
7
@1Snouser sure in the elemental state. It is also completely stable as part of salt. Last time I added salt to water there was no explosion. Good thing to the oceans are full if sodium in salts
7
Given the nearly 30% profit margin that tesla has I will say no there is plenty of room for them to pay more for raw materials.
7
The entire automobile industry is the same the prices got way too high over the last few years.
7
Name one multinational corporation that China has done that to in the last decade.
6
This will be a leagle quagmire in the usa dealerships have some weird laws to protect their monopoly. Tesla has fought to get around dealerships and could because they never had dealerships in the first place. I would love to see this work but it is a nightmare
6
That import duty in the USA sucks I was hoping to buy one before I heard that.
6
The take away is that Tesla knows the software they have for the self driving technology today doesn’t work. Slow down production and hire more engineers means design problems
6
Tesla could do this if they didn't want a 30% profit margin.
6
@jackcleveland1175 nailed it. The oligarchy wants nuclear power to keep energy as a commodity. Energy independence ends profiteering off energy.
5
When 30% profit margin isn't enough for the caplistist class.
5
I wonder how many of these would be needed for the small ev you see in china
5
@1Snouser Lithium reacts intensely with water, forming lithium hydroxide and highly flammable hydrogen. The colourless solution is highly alkalic. The exothermal reactions lasts longer than the reaction of sodium and water, which is directly below lithium in the periodic chart. Not sure I see your point the two elements have the same properties
5
Guess you enjoy paying more for the same products.
5
Millions of vehicles per year prove you wrong.
5
Recycling will solve that problem.
5
It is past time for governments to take action to end profiteering across all products and companies.
5
Ya that the CT is built like a 50s truck. We don't build like that for a reason
5
The reason you design 3 wheels is that motorcycles have different regulations and 3 wheels makes it a motorcycle in the USA.
4
While more people will want to buy an EV the market will remain supply limited. This will only impact the Osborne Effect. People will fix what they have buy used or car pool.
4
I would rather see the CT come to market than the long range Y.
4
Sam doesn't understand the last century of safety advances. We had vehicles that didn’t have crumple zones in the 50s. The CT hasn't gone through all the crash testing in the USA Tesla is selling based on a low volume exemption in the usa today.
4
They get the data and you get a 10% discount from a rate they set. Lol so bill you 110% than give you a 10% discount for your data and they win twice
4
Sodium ion batteries is the solution. Put them in shorter range EV and eliminate the monopoly.
4
Nuclear power is why we have pumped hydro storage. Nuclear doesn't ramp to meet demand it requires storage and always has.
4
Tesla need a ton of batteries for the semi and for grid scale storage
