  3.  @jptrainor  Instead of just reacting emotionally and ignoring what you've done, you should read Dunning and Kruger's paper. The problem here is you are asking the wrong question because you know a little but not enough to ask the correct question. There is no ad hominem attack. This is also where Campbell and his lack of any professional virology training misleads his viewers. Vaccines don't prevent infection. They prevent severe disease. This is Virology 101 but the specifics of the trimer proteins with coronaviruses have conferred some protection from infection and now everybody is using the straw man of "preventing infection". That is a logical fallacy. AFAIK, the HPV vaccine is the only other vaccine which confers protection from initial infection. How can you learn correct information with incorrect questions and incorrect framing? You cannot.

  4. This review is pertinent to earlier variants of COVID and the original wild-type. The game has changed with the Delta variant and the Delta Plus variant due to a mutation increasing viral loads. The Lambda variant contains the same mutations that increase the viral load, but the trimer proteins contain three mutations which provide vaccine escape. THESE MUTATIONS are why it's MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER TO GET FULLY VACCINATED!

The antibodies from the mRNA vaccines counter a MUCH wider range of future potential variants and when you get covid your antibodies are divided between spike, membrane, envelope, and nucleocapsid proteins instead of being focused on the spike protein which stops the spread. Vaccine created antibodies are more effective. That's why.

Mild symptoms in the initial sample but without context for sample size, vaccination status, etc. Too early to determine with certainty. 3. All variants will protect against other variants, but to what degree? Antibody coding for potential variants is AMAZINGLY diverse. 4. Yes, this is appearing very likely. 5. Yes except for the last part where you sound like you're going over the edge a bit. Long Haul Covid is a SERIOUS problem that will haunt healthcare from now on. 1 out of every 50 children getting symptomatic Delta is ending up with Long haul Covid. 20% of those long haulers are too damaged to be employable. Everyone is eager to get back to any amount of "normal".

I'll bet you're completely unaware that GISAID is right now tracking 1,034,058 sub-variants of Delta in the US, and that Omicron is now detected in 29 countries with 467 sub-variants being tracked. I've watched the spread since there were only 22 sub-variants being tracked and that was last Wednesday.

  11. You should keep in mind that you don't always get the best information here. He's a Nurse Educator. He's not a doctor. He's not a virologist. He's not an immunologist. This channel is often the blind leading the blind and he misframes information far too often because he isn't professionally trained in these fields. He reads things he found on the Internet. Remember as you acknowledge his Doctor of Philosophy that he has a PhD in Nurse Education and that's not Virology, or Immunology, or epidemiology, and that he's not a Medical Doctor.

The host of that show is Dr. Vincent Racaniello, Columbia University Professor of Virology who is giving his Columbia virology course away as a series of lectures you can take for free. You'll find TWiV on his channel or via Microbe TV.

He misses context and misses facts leading to straw man hypothesis and misdirection of his viewers as he reduces 25 page papers to 12 words with a checkmark after. He just said Delta was basically 'gone' when in reality Europe has 33% Delta, North America has 22% Delta, South America 29% Delta, Africa has 21% Delta, Asia has 33% Delta, and Globally Delta is 29% in the GISAID data of sequenced samples run through the machines. In case you don't know about GISAID, that's the global health initiative set up originally to track influenza genomes. On January 10th, 2020 the first full genome sequence of SARS-CoV-2 was was posted on GISAID and then download by BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson&Johnson who created the first vaccines from that data. Campbell is far less damaging than joe rogan, but both spread misinformation and and no qualifications in virology or immunology.

  39.  @annaredding  Math can be really weird and has a tendency to do that with exponents. Of course the overwhelming probability is that variation will confer less fitness and it will die off. If we ignore sequence insertion and sequence deletion and just look at substitution, with 29,906 base pairs if you consider a base pair can shift 9 ways (just an example of mutation) you get a number of possible mutations starting with 37712... which is 28,539 digits long! With that many possibilities and the massive numbers of particles involved, it's only a matter of time.

  49.  @anitahermalin2275  mumps vaccine is 85 percent effective at preventing DISEASE, not INFECTION. The whole point of a vaccine is to tell your body how to fight a new infection before it sees the invading virus so you don't have to get the DISEASE part to get immunity. The mRNA vaccines prevent disease super effectively, but they ALSO prevent infection which is a lucky icing on the cake super power side effect of attacking the spike protein directly. Preventing infection isn't normal for a vaccine but these mRNA vaccines do it fairly well. Now people are trying to judge the excellent disease preventing vaccines by rating this icing on the cake super power instead. Talk about spoiled.
