@isaac_aren A voice of reason! There is intelligent life on planet earth. Keep it up. This recovery rate they Keep mentioning btw is bs. I posted this to someone else. 'We don't actually know what the kill rate is yet because 1/Not every one who is going to die from COVID19 has yet died. 2/ we don't know many cases there have been in total. 3/Different variants have different epidemiology 4/What does 'recovery' mean? It does not necessarily mean 'as you were' We are approaching 3% kill rate. 2.8% if you crunch the numbers. This will drop to 1-2% possibly. This is WITH lockdown and WITH a vaccine since December 2020. Without those things the kill rate would be much higher with a swamped NHS. so these numbers of 99.99...... recovery are simply ignorant nonsense.'

@nadshy Of course you have immunity that's how the immune system works. Whether that's enough to not get Ill varies but will be heavily weighted to not getting severe symptoms.
2
@KehOfAllTrades KehOfAllTrades Two things firstly, COVID us a new virus/disease and it's a killer. Death rates are predictions only and the 80,000 that die from normal flu viruses in the states was reached in two months and this was WITH lock down so it is more lethal than seasonal flu. Scientists and clinicians are out working best critical care management drugs etc in situ ie whilst we are right in the middle of it. Secondly there is no vaccine for COVID, there are vaccines for seasonal flu viruses. This does not mean you won't get flu but your chances are greatly reduced, that's why they don't have to shut down the economy for normal flu every year.
2
@David Young They do work, why are you posting idiotic nonsense during a pandemic?
2
@oscarcat1231 Right I have deleted my post. I have a degree in applied Biology so I understand something about microbiology including virology. I also understand the immune system and disease. Reading that people are still claiming this thing is made up exaggerated etc is beyond my comprehension. You are right though, insults get us nowhere.
2
@oscarcat1231 That is not what the Scientific community think sir. Your information is wrong. Science progresses from studies, research from professional academics. Published literature is there to be challenged and that is what scientists do all the time. They repeat experiments and try and find flaws. Poliomyelitis is caused by the Polio virus, the vaccine eradicated that disease. At least in the UK.
2
@Alex-bz7re 'Several children.' Are you serious? Do you realize how many lives the polio program saved in the 80s? 100s of 1000s of cases dropped to a few 100. Please read the published literature from respected journals instead of scientifically illiterate creationist and conspiracy theory BS web sites.

@Andyburns-vt6rs Everything in brackets is me, I asked a lot of questions so I will need to fill in the gaps. 'there are specific centres world wide that track them (latest strains of influenza) The World Health Organisation compile the data (where they occur, numbers, symptoms, genomes) Other specialist centres make seeds for the new strains. We (colleagues company) get the candidate strains then manufacturer what the WHO recommend. They release the data twice per year. One each for northern and southern hemisphere.' Obviously the tricky part is 'manufacturing' which involves a lot of high tech immunology. This is what he came back with anyway. I hope you find it useful.
2
@rileyfozz8077 What? Viruses don't cause disease? What on earth are you talking about?
2
@donach9 Ventilation is a good point. Good news is that the kids will get spread it but are unlikely to get Ill with it. The aim is to get this to seasonal flu levels where only the old and vulnerable will get a yearly jab.
2
@AndreaM-ws5fv Eh? Genocide? We have actually kept a lid on this thing and now we have a vaccine.
2
@rileyfozz8077 Or perhaps you think a virus hijacking a cell to make copies of itself destroying the cell in the process is good for a person?
2
Why didn't Andrew Neil just say, 'WTF?'
1
Isaac Marshall to make fun of him and expose him for what he is
1
@Rimadim dim It's a killer, people are dying, why do people think they are scientists all of a sudden?
1
@Rimadim dim This is a novel virus and a killer. I don't just 'trust government scientists' I trust the scientific method which includes peer reviewed published journals. There are many teams working on this thing, treatment, vaccines and models.
1
@Rimadim dim Yes that's right, it's out there now so it won't be stopped it's in 260 counties.
1
@Rimadim dim Lock down seems counter intuitive, I had discussions with other people and they made reasonable points about the economy. This is the logic, the Imperial paper ran their models and from there government policy followed. Lock down protects the NHS, whilst the virus was out there we had an exponential growth of cases. Unabated this would have been 8 times the NHS capacity according to the models. Lock down prevented that. Roughly 5% of patients present with symptoms requiring hospital/critical care and exponential progress of cases would have produced very large numbers of ICU cases. We have still had 40,000 deaths WITH lock down so make no mistake this is a very bad virus. Levels in the UK are normally around a low of 1600 and a high of 28,000 with an average of 17,000 We have doubled the average for an entire year in about 2-3 months.
1
@Rimadim dim A severely restricted NHS would lead to deaths in other areas of critical care and deaths among staff. This has not been avoided but it has been minimized. A vaccine is the only protection right now unless you have had it.
1
@Rimadim dim In short there is no magic bullet, a one stop shop to protect the economy and our people. We need to get back to work safely ASAP and maintain social distancing measures as best we can. When the vaccines become available we can breathe a little easier then (pardon the ref)
1
@Rimadim dim Lock down measures are very difficult to compare, we are not Sweden Spain or Germany. Our ministries have to make the calls on what is best for us (UK) China had a military style lock down. I was in touch with colleagues over there and measures were very severe indeed. No lock down measures at all would raise an eye brow surely and we have everything in between.
1
@Rimadim dim Forget about politics this is science. The virus is a killer and the guys at the top makes the calls on policy, we voted them in. I don't care f they are hypocrites, it does not make this virus any less lethal. 40,000 dead in 3 months, WITH lock down. Those are big numbers because we have no vaccine, no immunity.
1
@Rimadim dim The mortality again is very misleading. It may be 'slightly' higher than seasonal flu (I get my jabs as I am asthmatic) It only has to be slightly higher for many people to die because we have 7 billion people just waiting to be a host for it with no defence! They don't know how lethal it is yet, some of the in situ reports state novel pathology. Clots in he larger vessels, life support including intubation is being looked at. Spanish flu has a few surprises including a spike between 17-25 age range for deaths. I do not think the same Cytokine storm has been reported as with that pandemic thank god. 1M deaths per week for 25 weeks, this is what models have to prepare us for.
1
@Rimadim dim Firstly people are not surviving because they have immunity, no one has immunity. This is a novel virus with proteins / antigens that our immune system does not recognise because it has never encountered them before. Secondly, yes the politicians are making the calls BUT this is based on continual updates from the scientific community and clinicians. This information will be constantly changing because they are learning something every day. We can sit back and criticise the calls from our arm chairs if that is the way you think we should debate this. I don't think that helps anything.
1
Rob Harvey What you have posted is nonsense and zero to do with the crisis we are in the middle of.
1
@sicparvismagna5786 We are not Sweden
1
@Rimadim dim It does not work like that. The immune system is multi layered, when we encounter an antigen for the first time our system has a first line of defence, this changes the second time, we have cells waiting in the wings. This is what vaccines do, they switch our system from stage one to stage two using attenuated versions of the viruses (for example) This virus is new so everything is first line so what happens? 1001 things happen, mainly we get well again. 5% will get very ill for a number of reasons and approximately half of them will die.
1
@gianthills No it isn't. Consensus is when all the evidence all the studies point in a certain direction. The overwhelming majority of studies support the fact that Global Warming is androgenic. It is that simple.
1
Ramzey Sahrt Well no, it evolution actually
1
@debiclark4362 They are scientifically illiterate unfortunately.
1
@redpillnibbler4423 What?
1
@jonemery8324 No it does not work like that, mutation is rare and neutral in Eukaryotes
1
Ramzey Sahrt It wasn't. Mind you it was a nonsense post from you in the first place.
1
Ramzey Sahrt RLFT is about 75% accurate and is based on seeding a fabric lawn that can recognise the virus interaction. The TA did mine, it's ZERO to do with any sort of narrative. I got results in 45 minutes.
1
@Mr Krispy No. Data has to guide this and there were valid reasons for recommendations regarding masks. Gut instinct is the last thing to trust on science matters especially for the non scientist
1
@Mr Krispy Check my profile on physics forums under the same name. I worked in labs from 1990-2007
1
@JG-fg1ye What 'evidence' just listen to what they tell you it's not difficult. This virus kills what else do you need to know? ISOLATE
1
@JG-fg1ye So what are you saying? Besides claiming Boris didn't actually have it? You have proof of this I suppose?
1
@JG-fg1ye Ah I misread that, my apologies.
1
@JG-fg1ye You mentioned a few things that were a little off topic, this probably diluted your message
1
@rosemarygriffin2184 Because you are a biologist right?
1
@shottyboik4555 The vaccine was tested by persons who actually know what they are talking about
1
@garyz2043 Hopefully you won't infect other people while you refuse your vaccine and spread it
1
@samueladmas9752 With idiots ignoring the rules causing these spikes we get see how bad this can really get.
1
@brianbrooks4448 Which lies?
1
@neil1375 What agenda? Please be specific.
1
@neil1375 I have been following the Science from December 2019. The idiotic conspiracy theories that have emerged since then have zero consistency between them. Everything from from the whole thing is fake to deliberate release by super powers, accidental release, Bill gates and vaccines ad infinitum. All bat shit crazy and zero to do with the actual science. So I am asking you. Which is your particular theory, which agenda?
1
@neil1375 I have heard very little discussion regarding the science, the published literature. Why would you think random opinions of uneducated individuals have any use regarding Scientific progress? Unqualified opinions on COVID19 are as useful as uneducated opinions on Quantum mechanics. There is no coherent theme regarding these conspiracy theories, some are variations on a theme some are at odds with one another, ie a complete contradiction. These theories cannot all be right and judging by the level of knowledge, quote mining and down right lies I would say none of them have any basis in anything factual.
1
@neil1375 So the big conspiracy according to you? What are main points?
1
@Chiefmucka Don't bother with the trolls mate, not worth your time. They know Science we don't apparently.
