  3. As someone that works in manufacturing, I can say the tariffs don't 'help' the US bring jobs back but they did help us start looking at other options than China. It's a long process though. Our company itself was assembly products that were getting 25% tariffs in China yet we saw little increase in sales though for the parts we used, we did begin to buy more from Vietnam and India. Overall, China was just slowly losing out to Vietnam, India and especially Mexico. I had a another job a company making similar products and they eventually ditched their small China factory and built one in Mexico. These things take years though. Even for an OEM to just to replace an existing supplier in China with one from another country, you need to order samples (can take weeks or months for delivery), test it (can take many months or even over a year), possibly re-sample many times until you get it right, then you need your customer to then test your product that has the new component and that could take months. Overall, a switch to a new supplier generally took us between 10-24 months to just get the new component approved depending no how important the part is to the function of the product. Usually the first order will have some 8-16 week delivery lead time so now you're looking at 12-28 months between placing first sample to getting first production delivery.

  6. The fact that everyone in that region fears what China is doing and might do with the South China Sea tells you a lot about China's claims & actions. Taiwan & Japan have arguments over islands & waters but they don't fear the other side will launch some sort of war over it. But CHINA....they are showing intent to actually use force to take it all. And their claims are massive areas. Sure Taiwan, also has similar claims but it's mostly just to keep the Chinese claims and prevent China from just easiliy taking all the waters & islands.

  8. Faster growing economies will always have increasing inequality. That's how you basically have to grow. One thing that holds back Latin America a lot are policies that are just basically giving money away rather than trying to bring i more foreign investment and keeping government spending to the essentials that help people work -- transportation/infrastructure, affordable housing, education. East and South East Asia that have seen a lot of growth basically kept welfare minimal but spend heavily on housing, education, and transportation/infrastructure.

  9. I’m progressive but I respect Utah. They (relatively speaking) hold to lessons of their bible instead of creating an ideologically conservative identification like most red states. Most or all red states didn’t support gay marriage in 2015 including Utah but Utah’s view (generally speaking) is not support for it doesn’t mean they support discrimination against it.

  10. I worked for an electro - mechanical company and we sold a lot of electronics to farm equipment manufacturers. This was 2015-2020. I was surprised how advanced farming equipment had become. The use of gps, automated driving, apps, etc really made me realize farm equipment manufacturers were becoming (hybrid) tech companies

  12. In the US for sure. In poorer countries, farming is mostly subsistence farming and the decisions are far less complicated.

If he didn’t, it would be great if he did and your input would be appreciated! Sam and his team have to start somewhere on the research so getting in contact with someone in that business is a great start!

  17.  @ricardomarin487  Worth ethic is a big factor. You need people to work hard, especially when they country is still relatively poor. There many places for cheap labor around the world but there has to be many things working for it in order to succeed. Yes, cheap labor and trade benefits are a big part but also work ethic and sound government policy. India is having one problem from 'work ethic', though some might call it cultural. Something like 20% of women are in the workforce and if that doesn't improve, they will be limited in their growth.

  18.  @chemicalfrankie1030  The bad part of being the reserve currency is the high price of the dollar with makes exports more expensive -- thus harder to export. But the "export inflation" is basically saying it allows the US to carry more debt. So it's a trade-off....reduction in exports but ability to have higher debt. They are probably a wash but the deciding point would be the power it gives the US with sanctions.

  23. Fun fact, leaded gas was not completely phased out of Australia until 2002, serval years after the mass shooting and gun control discussed in this video. Also, you should notice the much larger drop in murders by guns. It’s a proven fact guns are more deadly than knives so considering gun murders dropped far more as a % than overall murders, it suggests the gun control was a major contributor to the overall drop in murders.

Which could make sense since India and Phillipines with their high rate of English speakers have built customer service industries up which would make it more expensive

The advancements discussed in the video that u did not watch (since u posted only a few minutes after video was released) have been a net positive to the agriculture. That doesn’t mean everything has been perfect but the click bait title is just that..click bait 2. It’s capitalism why output in farming has grown tremendously and the output from farms is several magnitudes more than it was 200 years ago 3. Farming is very regulated and government involved. So many subsidies on insurance and for specific crops. Lots and lots of environmental regulations as well

At the end it mentions how the global trade has made income inequality worse and seemed to suggest (by adding no further context) that things are getting worse. And yet, global extreme poverty fell form 45% in 1980 to 10% today. We’ve also seen many former poor countries move into solid middle income and even upper income. Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, HK Singapore, etc were Poor 50 years ago and now wealthy nations. We have many examples of dirt poor counties moving Into solid middle income like china, chile, Panama, and many more

Perhaps another similar category is travel channels — people watching those are likely looking to spend on travel. I come to wendover or Polymatter or other similar videos just to be educated so It doesn’t indicate I’m interested in buying anything.

  34. @Zaydan Alfariz Indonesia inequality or GINI is 37.3. It was 33 in 2005. It was 28.6 in 2000. So it actually rose, though it did begin to see small decrease since about 2015. China's inequality has risen. Mexico's GINI has slowly declined. They generally tend to increase early on and then stabilize or slow decline when they hit middle income.

When Taiwan, South Korea and Japan were at the same GDP per capita that China is today, they had approximately 7% GDP growth for the next 20-30 years! That's a massive failure when compared to it's east Asian counterparts. >just like how the united states was a massive manufacturing country in the 1930s till 50s, Except the US was already upper income country at that point. China is not close to even it's East Asian counterparts who have 4x higher GDP per capita.

Taiwan hasn’t had a strong navy while Japan has had one of the stronger but Japan didn’t bully Taiwan or weak Mao China to get those waters or islands

  47.  @tren133  Yes, the are seeing the biggest increase in exports to Russia. On EV's, they are exporting Tesla as well which account for 40% of the EV export in 2022. I cannot find any data on value of exports for 2022 or 2023 YTD
